novavax vaccine trial - anyone else?

Have just had the call and am going tomorrow. Very excited. Anyone else doing this?

Novavax is the name of the pharma company, not the name of the vaccine so I'm sure it will be changed to something. I see 'nova' and think 'new' but hadn't thought about the Spanish!

@Cooroo

I'm in this - at the Bradford uni and I'm pretty sure all volunteers I saw where white.
I feel as if I got placebo. No discomfort, no after effects...
Chuffed with the thermometer though as mine had just died!

This really made me laugh. I was super excited about my 'freebies' too 🙄

I was also told that although the trial lasts for a year it doesn’t mean it takes that long for it to be approved. Their could be “enough information” for approval by the spring I was told. I was also told that several vaccines are likely to be approved given how much work is ongoing. And it won’t be a case of one of them saving the world-
All will be successful to some degree but Longer term a yearly jab will be needed.

Nova is new in Latin. Fairly sure that’s where the name comes from but yeah it’s a lab in Maryland not the name of the vax per se.

Also stepping hill! Yes indeed at my session not a single non-white person. Though one of the nurses told me they was also a trial at Bradford and they were more successful there.[/quote]
I’m in the Bradford trial - not a single non white person there in my group on Friday.

I was hoping for a free pen. Normally pharmacy stuff = free pain. I once got a very cool one that had a bone shaped clip, i really did love it.

After the throat swab i was dying for a drink. I dont have tonsils and i felt like i had cotton wool stuck in my mouth.
Minute I got out i downed the bottle of juice i had in my bag.

I've signed up but not heard anything yet. I used to work with David Baxter who is involved in the Stepping Hill trial and he taught me all I know about immunology and vaccines. Amazingly knowledgable doctor. I signed up because of my trust in him.

@SistemaAddict
We had a chat with him and indeed he was very trusting and a very nice man.

Just out of interest but has anybody had their swab results emailed to them yet?

@torvean32 I’ve had my Covid test results but not my blood test results (dunno if we actually get told them though).

I've got a video consultation next week then hoping to be accepted into the trial.

I had my swab results texted and emailed on Tuesday night (vaccine on Sunday). I don't think we get the blood results at any point because they'd effectively unblind us. I get antibody testing through work so will find out at some point I guess.

@Torvean32
Yes I got a text and email with Covid test results, took nearly 3 days

We won’t get the antibody test results. I asked about that and it’s because it might impact participation rates - people might drop out if they’re antibody positive because they may assume they’re immune.

Glad some ppl got theres. I can track to see it's delivered. For some reason we had English swab kits so we had to post them ourselves. I'll give it a couple more days then.

Should I have had a COVID result? Nearly 2 weeks. I just assumed no news was good news!

I don't know if areas do it the same? We had to register and post our test. So technically we get the result then we tell the study staff at our next appt. Hopefully the system works better than that app !
I hope whoever paid for the app to be created gets a refund.

Our test was registered and posted for us though we've been given others to register and post ourselves if we get covid symptoms. I was dubious as our contact info went on another form. But tbf I then got texted and emailed the result.

While I think about it if I do get covid symptoms it is going to be most likely far quicker for me to go to nearby drive through centre to get results as I know postal tests take days. Hopefully they've just given us the postal tests for convenience and sorting yourself out at a drive through is 'allowed' if it works better for us.

(result comes from NHS Test and Trace in usual way and I have to them let the trial organisers know)

I just rang and Bradford confirmed their policy is only to notify if positive. Seems odd they don't all do it the same but there you go!

Frazzled2207 · 19/10/2020 11:19

that's interesting they must process the tests themselves then. With my trial (stockport) they get fed into the nhs test and trace system who notify me, then I notify them.

I got my results by email at about 5am. So i guess it's working here.

Read reviews about patient cloud on google play. Seems ppl from various areas are still struggling with the app.
I'm getting pissed off at the thing sentting my phone off to fill in a form that doesn't work!

I had forgotten about the app. I have nothing to report but just tried to log in and I can’t figure out how to actually write anything. Not just me then?

But how long do we wait before assuming we’re negative? I had mine on Friday- can I assume by this Friday if I’ve heard nothing I’m clear?
