Every day I get two questionnaires to fill in and I have to log my temperature on the app. I’ve been doing this for 20 days now, I’ve no idea how long this will go on for. Is this not the same for everyone?

Frazzled2207 · 19/10/2020 21:17

@mollypuss1
I was def not told to do that.

Torvean32 · 19/10/2020 21:48

I have the same questionnaires that @mollypuss1 is talking about. We were told to do them plus the diary for 7 days. We were told even if we felt fine we had to document it in the diary. After that we could stop it , unless we still had symptoms . If any Covid symptoms started we were told to re-start the diary, but as that bit doesn't work I wont be doing that.

I keep thinking back and wondering if I've just forgotten something. With all the medical stuff being done, plus the mass of information I wish more things were written down. I say that as somebody in their 40s with no memory issues... or so I thought.

Cooroo · 19/10/2020 23:45

Weird. I rang Bradford about the app and they said ignore it unless you get symptoms. It started presenting me with the 3 questionnaires a week after I had my induction. So I'm ignoring it.

flapboldtwo · 19/10/2020 23:58

I have my initial video meeting this week but having read the information sheet I'm now really nervous. It said there is a risk of autoimmune diseases?

rogueantimatter · 20/10/2020 00:25

I have an appointment on Monday for final screening and hopefully an injection. I'm ashamed to say that I'm nervous about the Covid swab. Do they do blood tests for anything other than covid antibodies?

SpeckleDust · 20/10/2020 00:32

So pleased to find this thread - I’m another Stepping Hill recruit Smile. I had the talk from the lovely Dr Baxter followed by the general health check, swab, blood test and first vaccine just over a week ago. Also no after effects so convinced I had the placebo.

I’ve been getting notifications from the app which I filled in once then reread the info which said you should only complete it if you have Covid/flu symptoms (which I haven’t) so I’m ignoring it now. Hope I haven’t messed up but I couldn’t remember exactly what was said as there was so much going on the vaccine day.

Looking forward to finding out how everyone gets on with the second dose.

Torvean32 · 20/10/2020 02:11

Hi @flapboldtwo I'm not to sure on every possible side effect. However before they even lay a finger on you , you will get an appt with a Dr to go over everything. If they feel theres to big a risk they won't go ahead. You also have the right to pull out at any stage.

@rogueantimatter

andadietcoke · 20/10/2020 06:04

I'm the same as @sparkledust - did it once and not since.

Re autoimmune diseases - the only side effects mentioned to us were localised effects like fever, aches and pains etc, and only lasting for a couple of days or so. There have been no serious adverse events reported for this trial and there's nothing in my information sheet about anything like that.

andadietcoke · 20/10/2020 07:47

@SpeckleDust sorry!!! Giving you extra sparkle for a Tuesday morning.

I was told the same.

Stepping hill people (probably relevant to others but don't take my word for it!) I just got the below regarding the app.

We have just received clarification from the pharmaceutical company that apparently the e-diary won’t be made available for the first 7 days after vaccination. So, if you experience any concerning changes to your health within 7 days after vaccination, you should inform the Principal Investigator immediately (as per the details issued on the contact card at your first visit – Dr David Baxter at Stepping Hill Hospital). After the initial 7 days, the COVID part of the app should activate so you can start to complete as needed (i.e. any COVID symptoms).

(they also clarified that if as in my case you have no symptoms, you don't need to do anything with the app).

@SpeckleDust
although like you I have no side effects and reckon I got the placebo Dr Baxter did make a point of saying it was possible (albeit less likely) to have the real thing and have zero symptoms too.

And also (weirdly) to have the placebo and have symptoms.

OP posts:
andadietcoke · 20/10/2020 17:35

I had some really random side effects but did think that maybe I was just hyper aware - I guess that's the placebo effect!

mollypuss1 · 20/10/2020 19:08

I’ve been filling the questionnaires in everyday, no one told me it was only if I had symptoms (which I don’t). I have my second jab tomorrow so will ask them if I’ve been doing it wrong all this time. Blush

Torvean32 · 20/10/2020 19:22

@Frazzled2207 is correct. I got a call from the app programners saying my diary bit will open on 22/10 which is 7 days after.

I re-read my information forms today. It say 2400 ppl from the study will be asked to fill in the adverse reaction forms for 7 days after vaccination/placebo. So i think that maybe why there's some variation.

andadietcoke · 20/10/2020 20:47

Ooh good luck @mollypuss1

mollypuss1 · 21/10/2020 16:09

Just had my second jab, then have to go back in 2 weeks for a blood test. This appointment was much quicker than the 1st, blood pressure, temperature, pulse and blood oxygen levels taken plus another pregnancy test then straight to the jab, wait for about 15 mins then all tests redone (minus the pregnancy test obviously). I was in and out in half an hour this time. Asked about the app and they said there had been several teething issues but they think they’ve been ironed out now. Have to fill out the vaccine reaction symptoms questionnaires for the next 7 days but ignore the Flu-Plus ones unless I develop symptoms. She told me to ignore the push notifications after 7 days.

GreenPlum · 21/10/2020 16:17

Great! Glad it was quicker! My first visit was 3.5 hrs yesterday!

Iamdobby63 · 21/10/2020 17:54

Thank you to everyone taking part x

Torvean32 · 21/10/2020 19:18

How often do they need to pregnancy test you ??
Did the 2nd vaccination feel any different than the first @mollypuss1?

BG2015 · 21/10/2020 19:36

I've been for my first appointment today. I was there for 2.5 hours.

Take a large bag with you as you end up with a plastic pack, 3 home tests and other bits.

It was very well run. I was impressed with it all.

This trial is 3 weeks behind the Oxford trial but that one uses GM materials and not everyone can have vaccines containing genetically modified ingredients apparently.

My arm hurts where the injection went in similar to the flu jab muscle ache so who knows

mollypuss1 · 21/10/2020 19:54

@Torvean32 I’ve done two pregnancy tests so far, one before each jab. The second vaccination felt exactly the same as the first except they have to go in the opposite arm.

No free ruler this time either Grin

Frazzled2207 · 21/10/2020 20:11

I took my sample with me last time for a pregnancy test and they didn't even ask for it!
I assumed that pregnancy would count you out but apparently not necessarily, they just need to know so that they can make a note.

@Frazzled2207

Nova is new in Latin. Fairly sure that’s where the name comes from but yeah it’s a lab in Maryland not the name of the vax per se.
Correct. The nova part is because they use a new recombinant genetic technique to rapidly produce the antigens. The stock has been on a tear recently, for obvious reasons.

Thanks for stepping up for all who are in the trial. I've volunteered in New York but virus transmission rates are quite low here so there are no trials in my area.
