Your not unreasonable to do whatever you want, but I find the skirting boards get a bit grubby after about a month. Takes a few minutes to wipe them whilst hoovering etc.

Granted I don't pull the fridge/freezer out very often if at all.

Yes, mine would be completely filthy after a year. I do windows monthly perhaps, maybe every 5/6 weeks. I do the skirt get boards and doors weekly as part of normal clean. I have a big clear out once or twice a year but that's doing things like emptying all of the kitchen cupboardsand cleaning them out etc.

I do my bathroom tiles pretty frequently though as they seem to get a lot of dust

I wouldn't like to see the colour of my doors and skirting boards if I did that. I don't personally consider those to be part of a deep clean.

I have a dusty house, pets and my skirtings etc. are painted dark so I really notice dust there and do a quick wazz with my Dyson handheld and a damp dust. I don't do it as often as I should mind and if it didn't show up it would be done far less frequently.
I do clean door handles and switches with anti-bac often as they are so frequently touched.

It really depends on how your house is used and how dirty it gets and how clean it needs to be for you to feel comfortable.
I have 4 cats and 2 dogs and two children under the age of 6 and a husband that often comes homes muddy from sport - so my house never stays clean for long. If I were to only deep clean once a year the filth would be so caked on it would look like a horror house from one of those dreadful tv shows about filthy houses. And I always imagine what it would be like to have a lovely fluffy carpet and pale pink cushions and clean once a week and the house to be lovely and clean and orderly - but with everyone who lives in my house that’s just not possible right now.
If your doors aren’t covered in marmite hand prints and skirting boards splattered with mud and your window frames aren’t decorated with a layer of cat hair - then I’d say clean as often as you think and if that’s once a year then that’s fine.

Are skirting boards part of a deep clean? I do mine every time I mop!

A deep clean for me is pulling all the furniture out and getting in behind and under it and steaming the floors etc.

It is only me and my OH at home so no children or pets. I guess if we did have others in the house it may get dirtier quicker so may do these things more often. I hate cleaning so it's the job which will get left if I don't feel like it or have time. Always make sure kitchen and bathrooms are cleaned every week as a minimum. House is pretty tidy though and no ornaments to gather dust.

happymum - skirting boards every week? How long does that take? I live in an average sized 3 bed semi and to clean all the skirting boards up and down takes quite a while. Who has time to dedicate a day each week on their knees scrubbing the skirting boards - and i think declaring anyone who doesn’t as disgusting is a bit ott quite frankly

what's the obsession with skirting boards. I only do them when the blood and wine stains start to look really manky. about every 6 years

I tend to clean things as I notice them become dirty or a room smells a bit stale. At the moment that means practically daily with a small child, cats and blissfully unaware partner...

Best tip for skirting boards is wear a pair of old socks and use your feet. My back is knackered and it’s literally the easiest cleaning job for me now. Dip a toe in water if you need to scrub something off and buff dry with another toe!

Suddenly I am very glad we don’t have skirting boards... Sitting in a pretty filthy house after being away for a month and just feeling grateful that despite the windows being barely see-through and the bath tub being practically black (don’t marry a welder) I at least don’t have a weekly skirting board clean coming up.

On a more relevant note, I’d say a deep clean once a year is fine but it’s normally for slightly “deeper” cleaning. So pulling out the furniture to fully vaccuum under every last bit of it, shampooing rugs, touch up paint, a big clear out of cupboards, defrost and full disinfection of fridge etc. I’d say doors are pretty easy to wipe down a tad more often and windows would get very grimy in a year and would really reduce the amount of light coming in even if not noticeable at first, so at least every 6 months at a very big push.

I dust the skirting boads when I do my regular cleaning, literally just run the duster from left to right, that's it.
Occasionally I use a wet wipe.
Some jobs, such as clearing out the storage cupboard I don't do more often than once a year.
