Only deep clean once a year

AIBU to only deep clean once a year i.e windows, doors and skirting boards etc

OP posts:
MissusGeneHunt · 09/09/2018 17:08

The genius sock cleaning idea has raised me from Lance Corporal Midden to Corporal House Slattern! Excellent, I shall go and shine my halo now (with a sock).

Seriously OP, do what you feel needs to be done (or not done). Nothing wrong either way. I certainly haven't poisoned anyone yet from not 'deep cleaning' more than once a year!

Tomatoesrock · 09/09/2018 17:11

I usually do a big spring cleaning twice yearly, inside and outside of wardrobes, drawers, curtains etc. I started today the sun light suddenly made me notice everything. DS skirtings and window frames were filty. I do the downstairs skirting every 6 weeks or so, thinking of painting them dark brown.

Once a year would not do with the DC, no pets though.

Popsicle434544 · 09/09/2018 17:37

Skirts doneweekly and deep clean every month, sometimes twice monthly if i find there is a day without kids being home, I like nothing better than a house to myself , music blaring and and a good scrub down Grin

ashtrayheart · 09/09/2018 17:42

I don't think I've ever cleaned skirting boards Hmm

Itchytights · 09/09/2018 17:42

Clean mine all the time, as in two hours per day but a deep clean once a week.
Can’t bear to live in a dirty house and whilst I admit I may be excessively cleaning, I would rather that than an unclean home.

I genuinely don’t understand how people can not clean their homes but that’s none of my business; I’m not living there.

BiteyShark · 09/09/2018 17:44

Are the people doing deep cleans weekly or monthly not working full time?

It takes me two days non stop to do a deep clean of every room. Quite frankly I haven't got the time to do it other than an infrequent one off event and if anyone came looking for dust under my sofa I would kick them out of the house Grin

lljkk · 09/09/2018 17:45

I don't lick my skirting boards so never cleaning them seems quite reasonable to me. (Since this is AIBU)

Do lots of you simply LOVE cleaning? Or love thinking that you have a very clean house? How many people HATE cleaning but do it because you'd be ashamed if anyone thought your house wasn't clean? How many LoATHE cleaning but do it obsessively for fear you'll get sick if you don't?

BiteyShark · 09/09/2018 17:46

That should be it takes me two days to do the whole house as a deep clean not two days per room, they aren't that big

pumpkinspicetime · 09/09/2018 17:59

I don't like cleaning but I grew up in a filthy house and I want better for my dc. I hope one day I may enjoy it but no sign yet!

Tomatoesrock · 09/09/2018 18:17

I don't like cleaning, but again I grew up in a filty home and love that my DC can access clean clothes, plates, cutlery, They never spend a school morning in search of a sock. I am not spotless, there is often toys, dishes in the sink, but everyday I make time to keep it clean.

I clean the deeper things, Windows skirtings on a Sunday usually.

ballseditupforever · 10/09/2018 08:11

@BiteyShark it only takes so long as you do it infrequently. I do my skirting most weeks so it only takes a few minutes. I could completely deep clean a tidy room in under an hour.

firehousedog1 · 10/09/2018 08:14

As long as the kitchen and bathroom are clean and I keep on top of the hoovering and general untidiness then I'm happy really

Temporaryanonymity · 10/09/2018 08:18

I have a big window with views of the park and beyond that, the sea. I clean this window all the flipping time because the children keep putting their grubby hands all over it and the marks really bother me.

Skirting boards are done as and when they look like they need it. I am working towards some kind of system to keep on top of the cleaning but frankly I am quite lazy.

user1471507501 · 10/09/2018 08:24

What is this 'Deap clean' of which you speak?

NC4Now · 10/09/2018 08:26

I hoover my skirting boards with the little brush attachment. I use it to go round the fireplace etc too.

BiteyShark · 10/09/2018 08:41

ballseditupforever that would still mean 9 hours to do my house at 1 hour per room. Not practical to do that frequently when working full time. If I was at home or only worked a few hours a week then maybe fitting that in every couple of months might not seem too bad.

Oly5 · 10/09/2018 11:09

Deep clean? Nah. Am too busy working and hanging out wth the kids Smile

SoyDora · 10/09/2018 11:17

I clean things when they look like they need cleaning 🤷🏻‍♀️. So skirting boards get a wipe down maybe every 6 weeks. I try and keep on top of things so I never need to do a proper ‘deep clean’, however I plan on paying for a professional deep clean in November time as DD: is due in December and god knows when it will get done properly again!

deepsea · 10/09/2018 11:26

I love a good deep clean. Cheaper than therapy!

I do mine seasonally as in full deep clean, every room, cupboard. Nothing is spared.

Clean skirtings once a week. Not even sure why.

Clean fridge every week though. Windows once a month.

I have an old house and could be cleaning it 247 and it would still be dusty in around 5 minutes so a thankless task really.

deepsea · 10/09/2018 11:28

Anyway who cares, nothing worse than a sterile house! My doctor told me to stop cleaning so my children can be spared the curse of allergies, so if ever there was a good excuse to put your feet up and watch a box set that is probably it!!! Cake

JessieMcJessie · 10/09/2018 12:45

@HappyStripper

*”..bathtub nearly black (don’t marry a welder)”

Surely you meant to say “Don’t marry a lazy arse man who doesn’t clean up after himself” ?

Fresta · 10/09/2018 12:59

I wipe the tops of the skirting where dust collects every week- after a year they would be completely furry! Shock

Also, the windows outside get cleaned by the window cleaner once a month. I do the insides about as often otherwise they look dirty in the sunlight. A year is a loooong time to leave them!

Wipe fron door every week as really dusty/ rain splats.

I wipe the doors internally every week as well- they get grubby around the edges and dust on the moldings- I only have one older dd but still house gets grubby in my view unless cleaned regularly!

Fresta · 10/09/2018 13:01

House stays pretty ok with weekly cleaning so never need to do a deep clean.

StUmbrageinSkelt · 10/09/2018 13:14

We've been in this house 20 years and there are windows we have never cleaned. Not planning on starting either as they have reached a point of resolution.

MinaPaws · 10/09/2018 13:21

I dust/wipe skirting boards about once every two weeks. We have a cat and if I didn't they'd look really Kim-and-Aggie grim. But washing down paintwork, inside and out of windows and window frames, hoovering under heavy furniture etc I only do twice a year - once in the autumn lead up to Christmas and once as a late Spring clean around April or May.

I used to steam clean carpets twice a year but had Chronic Fatigue for several years and haven't done it since. I now have a steam cleaner and stare at it occasionally, wondering when I'll get the strength and energy to do them. They are filthy - all the hoovering in the world can't disguise it now.
