Afreshstartplease Mon 21-Aug-17 13:51:48

00100001 Mon 21-Aug-17 13:52:13

It's 4 bloody months away

BellaGoth Mon 21-Aug-17 13:52:48

Christmas chocolate? In Tesco?

<rushes to Tesco>

Sorry OP. I love Christmas. It is a little early though.

CupOfTeaAndABourbon Mon 21-Aug-17 13:52:54

YABU. I fucking love Christmas and, no, it's never too early.

grin

The official countdown starts for me on 1st September. As you said, only a third of the year to go grin

PutTheBunnyBackInTheBox Mon 21-Aug-17 13:53:09

I started my Christmas shopping a couple of weeks ago!

YANBU re Christmas displays though. The kids aren't even back at school yet!

Rarotonga Mon 21-Aug-17 13:53:57

Does that mean I can have a mince pie?!

PumpkinPie2016 Mon 21-Aug-17 13:54:32

YANBU - a pub near is has their 'Christmas bookings now being taken - hurry to avoid disappointment' banner up!

Plus seen chocs/cards already.

I like Xmas just as much as the next person but it's way too early! I swear it gets earlier every bloody year!

I want to enjoy September (start of New school year, stationary, meeting my new classes), Halloween, bonfire and mine and DS birthdays in Nov before I think about Christmas!

anotherAnotherUsername Mon 21-Aug-17 13:54:49

That's nothing!

Waitrose had decorations up on Jan 2nd!

Afreshstartplease Mon 21-Aug-17 13:54:53

cupoftea you are soooo right!

PoppyPopcorn Mon 21-Aug-17 13:55:13

Totally agree. I am not a Christmas fan. I hate the cold weather and permanent darkness. I hate the competitive consumerism that most people go in for and the amount of SHITE which is bought only to go straight in the bin. It's not a particularly enjoyable time of year for me but it is taboo to say so or you get the "scrooge" and "grinch" comments.

Christmas should start on 1st December. No earlier.

gwenneh Mon 21-Aug-17 13:55:49

I am so ready for Christmas! :D Bring it on!

YABU summer is over it's basically Christmas now.

toffee1000 Mon 21-Aug-17 13:56:02

It's still August FFS!! Way too early for Christmas. Given all the threads that pop up on MN about how stressful Xmas is and how expensive etc, I'm surprised so many MNers start their prep so early.

Isadora2007 Mon 21-Aug-17 13:57:33

YABU. It's never too early for Christmas.

Our local Dobbies puts up it's Christmas displays beginning this week. The DCs are practically psychotic with flee when they spot them.

jay55 Mon 21-Aug-17 13:57:48

It's summer. Are we skipping autumn altogether? I hate it. Bah humbug no Christmas for me.

SideOrderofSprouts Mon 21-Aug-17 13:58:22

Yabu

JennyOnAPlate Mon 21-Aug-17 13:59:04

Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year but even I agree with you. I don't want to see any of it until November.

custardcreamplease Mon 21-Aug-17 13:59:12

By Christmas displays, are we talking light up trees, reindeer, fake snow in the windows? That's bloody mad

Anecdoche Mon 21-Aug-17 13:59:16

im all for planning ahead but by the time christmas comes most people are already bored of it because it's been pushed for months.

i think it would be more fun if it was just , well, christmas. get a few gifts, buy some food, get pissed, raise a glass to santa jesus ๐Ÿ˜

MagicMoneyTree Mon 21-Aug-17 14:01:44

I have genuinely just turned to my mum and said "I'm getting excited about Christmas already" ... then I saw this thread.

I'm pregnant. Can I blame hormones??

ClashCityRocker Mon 21-Aug-17 14:02:25

I love Christmas and am not averse to a bit of early planning/present buying.

I do wish we could wait for the last thing to finish before moving on to the next thing - we have autumn, Halloween and bonfire night to go yet and we are still in the summer holidays.

Last year I was all Christmassed out by the time we got to it! This year I'm reigning everything in a lot.

Mrskeats Mon 21-Aug-17 14:02:37

Yanbu; it's ridiculous

upperlimit Mon 21-Aug-17 14:03:06

Yanbu. It's too early. Where are all these people buying cards in August to justify the floor space?
