This is where shopping in Aldi (and perhaps Lidl) really benefits.
They don't do Christmas in any significant way until much later in the year. I do most of my shopping there and it's always a bit of a shock if I go into Tesco/Asda/Morrisons etc between about August and October to be confronted by the wall of Quality Streets in the main entrance.
They have them in so early btw because they want people to buy them, eat them, and have to buy them again several times. Or put them away 'for Christmas' only to not be able to find them and have to buy them again.
SomeOtherFuckers DP once did some work for a major supermarket to film a Christmas advert. He had to build and stock a fake supermarket with Christmas products and I'm sure it was in June one year (it was definitely in the summer). He brought me home a Poinsetta but it lost all it's red leaves within about 2 days because obviously it had been so traumatised by all the unseasonal talk of Christmas.
I like certain aspects of Christmas (time off work, seeing family, nice food and drink, winter walks, slobbing around watching films, even having a Christmas tree).
What I don't like is all the 'buy all this crap that no-one wants or needs and many don't have the money for'. Fine to buy for immediate family and especially children, but if you need several months to plan and execute Christmas, you're making far too much of it. I hope those who do this don't ever complain about the 'stress' and 'work' of Christmas.
Double VAT on all Christmas goods say until the clocks go back and then this would go away
^^Brilliant idea.
