Just did day 4 of Move. I enjoyed it but it was tough! I’ve found I’ve started slipping on my mat during downward dog and it’s very distracting. Should I go for a cheaper version of the liforme May to see if I like the thinner mat or just got for it?

happytobemrsg · 04/02/2023 13:18

*mat

The nhs web site counts yoga as strength - which so great as a hate weight training

Did a random runners yoga today after a long run - I naively thought it might be less exhausting than move ( perhaps I just ran fast 😀)

Yogachick · 04/02/2023 16:24

@ScottishBeth i make sure I’m very railroad tracks rather than straight line in crescent lunge and warrior 1. Easier to control balance in Crescent and that’s the only way I can do Warrior 1. Side plank, some days kickstand, some days feet together legs straight and some days legs straight but 1 foot on the ground in front of the other, a sort of halfway house. I use them all

newmumtotwo24 · 04/02/2023 17:06

Loved day 4 of move today.

VerbenaView · 04/02/2023 18:55

D4 Center was great today, I can really see how I have improved as I did it all without stopping, certainly not the case this time last month.

Any tips on how to keep my foot up in tree pose? I wonder if my pj trousers are too slippery (cotton) as well as me not pushing the raised foot in and grounding enough with my standing foot.

I find it easy(ish) when I'm in a hot yoga class when my leggings are all sweaty (sorry, TMI!). I think the friction makes it easier to grip. I find it a lot less easy when I'm in my PJ's. My foot just wants to randomly slide down regardless of how much I attempt to push it into my standing leg!

Ladyofthelake53 · 04/02/2023 20:16

Not feeling well today, stinking cold so i just did a gentle morning session.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/02/2023 20:58

Day 3 of Center done - enjoyed it very much.

Chimna · 04/02/2023 21:46

DD woke up just as I was about to start day 4 so going to give it a miss. I've had a pretty active day walking around a forest and playing football with DS so not feeling too guilt. Will try to catch up tommorow.

CeeCeeDeeBee · 04/02/2023 21:58

Didn't manage any yoga yesterday (was on the go from 5am to 10pm, ludicrous), so did day 3 today and enjoyed it. Won't be able to do any tomorrow either, but will catch back up next week.

CeeCeeDeeBee · 04/02/2023 22:00

Re the what other exercise do we do: I lift heavy weights and do spinning/aerobics. Yoga keeps me stretchy!

Prestissimo · 04/02/2023 22:08

Just done d3 of Move and enjoyed it.

I also struggle to keep my leg up in Tree - although some days it's easier than others (not always an obvious pattern as to why, but often slippy trousers are the problem).

Other exercise - I ride my bike to work, I walk the school run on days I'm not at work. I aspire to be someone who regularly swims 1km once a week and runs 4 days, but in reality I sometimes achieve some of those - it's a work in progress. I like to run first thing (i.e. 5.30-6am ish) but when I don't sleep well (frequently) it's obviously harder. Something is better than nothing, though, and I find that yoga complements all of the above.

LizziesTwin · 04/02/2023 22:32

I run, ride my bike (for exercise rather than transport), lift weights, do Pilates, take part in HIIT sessions.

ArabeI · 04/02/2023 22:45

I'm not going to manage day 4 of Move today, so will double up tomorrow.

Other exercise; I do a couple of dance classes weekly, and run.

HellonHeels · 04/02/2023 23:14

I enjoyed day 4 of Move. I often skip the vinyasas because they make my shoulder joints hurt, but my replacement activity of "resting" in down dog is getting easier.

That's incredible! How do you fit it all in??

Buttalapasta · 05/02/2023 06:34

I loved day 4 although it wasn't very flowy as I got interrupted 3 times.

LizziesTwin · 05/02/2023 07:10

@happytobemrsg no small children & happy to get up at 6 when necessary to fit things in. When my children were little I ran three times a week before they got up, I’d be home before 7.15. I’d go to the gym in the evening after they’d gone to bed. My husband wakes up much later than me.

Gufo · 05/02/2023 08:24

Day 30 of Center today and then I will be all caught up!

On a good week, I walk DD to school (a mile each way), do a real life yoga class, an aerobics class and a park run. Usually it's some combination of those!

I want to add weights in to my exercise, so am going to mix YWA with Caroline Girvan (sp?) Youtube workouts and my kettlebell on alternate days.

I loved Move last year so will follow that, alongside any YWA sessions between Move and Center that I haven't done yet. One I return to is the Halloween 'Bones' one - recommend it, and the intro/outro titles are fun...

Sooverthemill · 05/02/2023 09:29

Still totally knackered so I chose Center Day 14 for a lovely stretch to help me wake up. It was fab. Hindered as ever by small cat licking my toes. YouTube told me say 14 is the most repeated of the Center videos so the entire world likes it best! Definitely one to save.
@happytobemrsg don’t feel guilty about exercising or not. Each phase of our lives brings different challenges and you do what you can ( or what feels good) x

Day 5 move. Lovely pigeon pose but my wrists feel a bit sore. Need to use palms and fingers more, as she suggests.

Heck yes, anything we do is brilliant, and helps our future health and mobility. Horses for courses, there are times in our lives when we can only do so much.

I find in my sixties I need to schedule this into my life. But the benefits are amazing.

happytobemrsg · 05/02/2023 10:15

Thanks everyone. I've always been extremely sedentary even though my DH is a PT and we have a gym at home 🤦🏻‍♀️ I'm hoping YWA is going to kickstart a more healthier lifestyle for me. DH always prioritises getting in the gym & I now prioritise yoga. I need to expand on that.

ScottishBeth · 05/02/2023 10:34

I did Move day 4 yesterday but struggled with it a bit. This week has been hard with teething and colds, and I think it all hit me yesterday. I haven't decided whether to do day 5 today or something super gentle.

@happytobemrsg is there anything you've always wanted to do? I always find it easier to commit to exercise when it's a hobby rather than just exercise - I was much fitter when I did a martial art than I ever was when running, for example. And the trapeze - I saw photos of it and thought it looked amazing, but it took me ages to pluck up the courage to do it. But I wouldn't be without it now. People might say oh you need this much cardio or whatever, but the fact is that exercise that you do is a million times better than exercise you skip because you find it boring or whatever.

Yogachick · 05/02/2023 11:48

Move Day 5. Hips hips hips. I struggle with figure 4 stretch but I’ve found using a strap lets me get more into it. In contrast half pigeon is comfortable. Sliding the foot back to 3 legged dog takes me to the toes of my standing foot every time,so more of a split than a dog but I managed a version . Day 6 tomorrow😱
