Hope you’re looking after yourself @Sooverthemill 💐

Weepingwillows12 · 12/02/2023 18:23

I have been keeping up but too busy to post. Been doing centre but a bit pick and choose (didn't want day 1 etc). I managed to pull a calf muscle I think doing downward dog 2 nights ago. Never usually do enough exercise to get injured so don't really know what to do for it so decided to walk it off which turns out to definitely not be the right thing to do as now limping and swollen. Will have to take a few days off yoga or do sitting breathing ones.

Actually does anyone remember any with no downward dogs, lunges or forward folds or leg stretches? Thinking maybe arm ones or core possibly could work.

hoochyhag · 13/02/2023 08:33

Thinking of you @SooverthemillFlowers

Hmm don't know any without these moves @Weepingwillows12 but I'm sure scottishbeth or yogachick will know.

Day 13 Move flight was hilarious, but, I managed to hold crow pose for a nanosecond before I fell over Grin

ScottishBeth · 13/02/2023 08:43

I have not posted in ages so just catching up!

@happytobemrsg I'm so pleased you persevered and are finding Move ok now! And enjoying your new mat!

@Prestissimo I hope this is OK to ask - it really struck me that you do breathing exercises with your son. Is that something you would have done as a child? (Not necessarily the specific breathing exercise, as you might not have known about it.) But would you (or anyone) have had support in dealing with difficult emotions? Hope this is OK, I'm always struck when I read about stuff like this on MN - was my family particularly bad at that, or has the world changed a lot?

ScottishBeth · 13/02/2023 08:50

@Sooverthemill hope you and DD are ok.

@Weepingwillows12 that sounds painful, definitely rest! I can't think of any unfortunately, but if I come across any I'll let you know.

I've had an awful few days. DD has been pretty ill, and getting worse, or at least not getting better. Nothing serious, but very unpleasant, and she's only 17 months so finds it really distressing. We have an appointment with the GP later so hopefully will get some advice.

I have kept up with Move. Did day 8 yesterday. Honestly I wasn't that keen. I don't love the alternate nostril breathing - I prefer other breathing exercises. And I hated being sat up for that length of time. If I do it again I'll probably move to lying down before the breathwork, and I might do a different exercise instead. Otherwise I like the practice.

Day 7 I loved! Was so good!

notanicepersonapparently · 13/02/2023 09:12

Sorry to hear so many of you have been feeling unwell or have family members that are. Wishing you all a speedy recovery. I’m still working my way through Move. Just done day 12 (it’s worn me out 😆
@Weepingwillows12 the yoga for neck and upper back videos should suit you.

Sooverthemill · 13/02/2023 09:17

@ScottishBeth thank you ( and everyone) DD is now adult but with several chronic illnesses that mean she is effectively bed bound. On Saturday night she had an anaphylactic response to a new brand of her regular medication. She’s highly allergic anyway. We have been trying to get an epipen for years but she’s too unwell to go to a clinic to see a doc. Waiting for GP to visit today to check her over and to hopefully prescribe. She’s very unpredictable, her reaction could be to a new thing or an old thing each time but they are getting closer together

also we did breathing exercises with DD when she was little for her asthma. A Japanese name ( Hiromito?) and we have continued that plus diaphragmatic breathing too. She hates alternate nostril breathing as like me ( and pp on her) she has constantly stuffy nose
no yoga today but tomorrow???

@ScottishBeth I don't mind you asking at all. The short answer is no, I don't remember anything like that from my childhood. I am the eldest of four so there must have been plenty of 'big emotions' in our house but I don't remember ever dealing with them as such. My parents weren't uncaring at all - I'm 45 now and I think the world has changed hugely.

With my own children we escaped the 'terrible twos' - they both spoke early and so I probably thought we'd dodged a bullet from that point of view, but I do find that as they get older they can be very emotional and I do err on the side of talking it out/naming that emotion/consciously developing healthy coping skills. I'm a GP and an infant school SENCo Governor so I'm very (possibly too much) aware of the issues in childhood mental health at the moment and I'm very keen (as all parents are) for my children to manage their emotions in a healthy way. My 10yo, who I was doing the breathing exercises with, is going through a stage where he can be very self-critical and he sometimes needs help to get out of the red mist so I've tried various things to help him calm himself down and this definitely worked well.

I do reflect on whether I over-interfere. In other areas I'm very much a 'get on with it' parent but it's hard to watch them struggle isn't it?

Anyway. Enough rambling. Managed Day 10
of move yesterday morning. Hoping I'll fit some in today too.

OopNorfDahnSarf · 13/02/2023 12:40

Hi all, I had never thought before of breathing exercises to help young ones deal with difficult emotions.

Day 14 of Center - Stretch. Unfortunately I am not stretchy in the slightest - about as flexible as a rock. However I showed up and did my best.

Buttalapasta · 13/02/2023 16:03

@hoochyhag That's a nanosecond longer than I managed! Everything hurt today and I wasn't sure if it was a "good" pain that meant I was working well or a bad one that means I might regret it.

Sorry to hear about everyone who is having health / children troubles. Hope the yoga is helping even a little bit!

Yogachick · 13/02/2023 17:28

Day 13 of Move . Poor nights sleep sooo close to skipping it. Going through the motions rather than immersing myself. Crow- not happening, but half moon is one of my favourite asana, not often used by Adriene so that bit made me happy. Tomorrow is another day…

newmumtotwo24 · 13/02/2023 20:26

Missed a couple of days. Cosleeping has been killing my body and needed to have a rest. Not going to catch up as I don't want to overdo it but determined to pick it up again from tomorrow

CirreltheSquirrel · 13/02/2023 20:44

Move day 8 done - I needed that tonight!

Jumbojem · 14/02/2023 07:52

Move Day 10 done here, I've fallen behind a bit what with one thing and another.
Got a few days off later this week so hoping to catch back up.
It's incredible how much I'd stiffened back up in just 4 days off.

Sooverthemill · 14/02/2023 07:55

I've just done day 16 of CENTER. It's 'restore' which is what I needed. So happy to see everyone still here, after my own rocky patch

Yogachick · 14/02/2023 08:13

Well manifesting didn’t work as I’m sick with cold cough sore throat achey ,you know the drill. This was obviously sneaking up the last couple of days, hence my struggle to get on the mat. My yoga for the next few days will be meditation,so I can maintain my streak. Nice to have you back practicing @Sooverthemill xx

CeeCeeDeeBee · 14/02/2023 10:15

Hi yoga friends,

I've caught up with days 10, 11 and 12 of Center yesterday and today. Am still behind, but them's the breaks. Did an in-person yoga class yesterday, too, and have also been weightlifting, so I can't do it all.

Hope those who are poorly, or who have poorly kids, feel better soon x

hoochyhag · 14/02/2023 10:17

Day 14 move

Glad we are hanging on. Lots of love to those ill or tired or worried 💕

I feel rubbish today, poor sleep for the past few days due to a new wool duvet, I was freezing 🙄 I know, first world problems.

Didn't feel like it, but just unrolled the mat and put on you tube and now I feel ok ☺️

Have a lovely rest of the day.

BestIsWest · 14/02/2023 17:32

Day 14 move here too. I’ve had a week off, still having problems with my left hand but it seems much better today. Good to be back at it.

VerbenaView · 14/02/2023 19:18

Center Day 13 and Day 14 just completed, I got too occupied yesterday with something else so missed my yoga opportunity, and I think it played out well doing both 13 and 14 together today. I feel so much better for it.

Nice to see you back @Sooverthemill

@Yogachick hope you're feeling better soon, and anyone else unwell, there is just so much illness about/

ScottishBeth · 14/02/2023 19:43

@newmumtotwo24 I know a lot of people do 2 (or sometimes more 😱) in a day when they miss some, but I never do. As long as you come back and do something it's fine!

I did Move day 9 yesterday and loved it! Even the conditioning bits. Only thing is I was a bit lazy so was still wearing my cord dungarees - made tree pose a challenge!

I'm not going to manage day 10 today. DD has an awful cough and only napped for about 45 minutes. She's been in bed less than an hour and we've already had to go up twice. My DP is poorly as well, so I don't think I can take 20-30 minutes out for yoga. I'll do a 5 - 10 minute one before bed.

OopNorfDahnSarf · 14/02/2023 22:11

Day 15 Center - Reset. I felt much stronger in the warrior poses. Practice makes perfect.

Hello fellow yogis. It's good to hear everyone's stories. Best wishes to those dealing with illness.

happytobemrsg · 14/02/2023 22:21

Hope everyone is feeling better soon!

Day 13 of Move yesterday & 14 today. Didn’t enjoy yesterday (really struggled with half moon then it put me in a mood) but liked today. Exceptionally hard day at work (again) so I needed a nice practice.

happytobemrsg · 14/02/2023 23:02

Sunday will be day 50 of yoga for me ❤️ I need to mark it somehow
