My toddler is unwell - high temp etc. if i say I’m off to look after him I don’t get paid (and lose £130 a day!) but if I phone in sick I do get paid.

However, I’ve had to do it a few times this year and not sure what illness I can have this time. Advice? (I’ve had quite a few colds/ sickness bugs/ ruiner infections..)

If in your situ with no dependency leave I would just be honest. I find that's always the best policy and if people see you are being honest and upfront and genuinely stuck they will often go out of their way to help, rather than lie on top of lie which is hard to keep track of and no one comes out of top there.

The responses on this thread make me weep for this country - honestly, you all sound so unbearable and heartless

I feel equally sad for this country but for a different reason. So much of this thread seems to be supportive of someone lying to their employer and acting in a fraudulent manner. The "someone" is a teacher; yes, a teacher with a responsibility to educate our children. This is shocking and those contributions supporting the notion and trying to justify it says a lot about the individuals. You should be ashamed of yourselves!

Just say your kid has had DnV and you have it too
that gives you at least 2-3 days

Why are people still giving OP advice for an event that was over a week ago? Discussing the ethics in a wider context is fair enough but the toddler is back to health by now. Read the OP date before posting!
