What do you do? I'm getting jaded working in the NHS and know I have many skills that I could use elsewhere...

Have you thought about pharmaceutical jobs @ImJustaGirlnotaPrincess? I’m near Cambridge and the likes of Astra Zeneca are constantly advertising for people with biomedical backgrounds.

NHS 3 days b8 in inner london (35-40k pro rata salary for the 3 days
Equivalent 1 day private work per week remote (pays significantly more)

My current take home is roughly 70k for the 4 days, I probably could fit a bit more in my 1 day private and I take the other day off for myself / childcare (I have young children)

What do you do, out of interest? 🙂

Not in the NHS. Hence why we get Blue Light Cards for discounts in shops etc.

Not me. DD1. So young. Biomedical scientist. Just doubled pay moving to the private sector in London. Same job. Less cobwebs.

Doubled pay? Tell me more 😄

Reading some of these replies I really need to get myself further up the civil service bandings!

Have been stuck at one level for so long as I’m terrified of interviews but I know I could do so much better.

I'm on over £50k but have gone as high as I want to go in the NHS. I'm thinking of doing something else but I'm just into my 50's so think I may have left it too late. I have a quality management background too and would probably relish an auditor role, or something like that. Oh, also do a lot of training but not so keen on that side!

You could probably move into Quality Assurance for an engineering company, or audit as you've said - we have had people from bio medical - the pension will be totally different though, so worth looking at the whole picture
