I've started a new thread, as the old one seemed to have ended. Apologies if I have missed anyone.

why is it long overdue ?

Workingfromhomenow · 16/11/2024 10:24

They’ve taken it off today. Maybe a lot of people were having trouble with it.

Gally123 · 16/11/2024 13:27

@Workingfromhomenow - no it's still there I just tried. Maybe it's gone from your screen if you completed the process.

I get a text message with a number every time I log on

TypoQueen1 · 16/11/2024 13:39

@Chriscal you can set it to remember your device for a period of time so you don't get so many texts.

Chriscal · 16/11/2024 13:41

@TypoQueen1 I will try and do that then, thank you.

Workingfromhomenow · 16/11/2024 14:37

@Gally123 Sorry, my mistake. I remember now that you can ask it to remember your device for 10 days I think. Would you be able to get the text sent to the phone of a trusted family member if you don’t have a mobile phone?

Lovemydaxie · 16/11/2024 15:28

@Gally123 you can have text messages sent to a landline. I've had it when friends have inadvertently sent a message to my landline rather than a mobile. This should work for you.

Gally123 · 16/11/2024 17:23

@Workingfromhomenow - no, that wouldn't work, there's no-one here with me when I am working.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 16/11/2024 17:24

@Lovemydaxie - I'm not sure that I can set that up as they ask for the operating system of the device. Plus I have no way to scan the QR code.

OP posts:
Lovemydaxie · 16/11/2024 17:40

@Gally123 I selected to receive an sms message instead of setting up the authenticator. No need to scan the QR code. Just put in a phone number and it'll send a code by text to log on so much easier. Whether it'll accept a landline number I'm not sure but you can definitely receive an sms text to your landline. I would try it and see.

Gally123 · 16/11/2024 17:43

@Lovemydaxie thanks I'll try and see, maybe wait until the end of the month after I have got my November money just to be on the safe side. I was told the start date was before Christmas so hopefully not before 2 December. I don't do as much with DICT8 as I used to but it would be nice to know I could earn a few pennies (!) if I need to.

Pinksvilles · 18/11/2024 13:32

I have ticked the box to remember my device for 60 days.

Gally123 · 21/11/2024 15:15

Logged in this afternoon (old style still) and been showing 0 tasks for a while - is this due to snow I wonder? or just one of those things, but not seen 0 tasks for such a long period of time for a while. wanting to do as much as poss this month before the new log in starts....

OP posts:
Gally123 · 21/11/2024 15:41

Phew, there's some work listed now, was getting paranoid methinks.

OP posts:
Lainey3011 · 22/11/2024 19:40

How do you get a code sent to mobile phone please?

Lainey3011 · 22/11/2024 19:42

How do you get a log on code sent to mobile phone please?

Gally123 · 24/11/2024 11:38

@Lainey3011 if you are having problems email the DICT8 via their info/help email address and they will hopefully be able to help you out, although have not managed to sort me out completely yet, still awaiting confirmation of the start date for the new system, but I hope to be able to get my last pay "cheque" before then.

How is everyone doing for work on DICT8 ? Mine is normally quite a busy one but the work seems to be dwindling by the month. Where I could go on for a few hours a day (after my commitments) I now have to sit for hours waiting for work to arrive daily to get the basic wage. Going to consider a job change away from typing but not sure what yet, something less stressful I think 😉

Doglover6109 · 28/11/2024 13:58

@Pinksvilles I do two specialties and this week it has been very quiet on both of them. The odd letter on the system now and again, then a few here and there. Wonder why it is so quiet.

Pinksvilles · 29/11/2024 13:40

@Doglover6109 thanks for letting me know. I was wondering the same.

Gally123 · 01/12/2024 12:27

@Lovemydaxie I did my invoice today and then tried to set up the SMS text as you suggested, however it has rejected my phone number and says it has to be a mobile. So, as the new system, I am told, is due to start before Christmas (although no date given as yet) that is me done typing for DICT8. I'll log in again only to check to see if my invoice has been paid.

Lovemydaxie · 01/12/2024 13:08

@Gally123 that's a real disappointment 😞. I would have hoped that would work for you and solve the problem. So sorry it means you have to stop working for them, their loss.

Workingfromhomenow · 01/12/2024 16:39

@Gally123 Would it be worth getting a really cheap mobile phone on pay as you go to be able to get the text. You would probably find it useful for other things as well once you had one.

Gally123 · 01/12/2024 16:50

@Lovemydaxie - I do wonder how many other people it affects. However, as @Workingfromhomenow suggests I know I will need to get a mobile phone sometime in the future as they have now restarted the campaign to end landlines. It's just don't like being forced into it before I am ready - I know nothing about them, how they work, how all these "pay as you go" etc features work. We didn't have such things when I was at school and all these changes are implemented I suspect by people who have been using mobile phones since they were children and grew up with them. And no-one seems willing to show people how they work as they take it for granted everyone already knows. How do you switch one on? Select a network? A landline is so much more user friendly!
