Hi all!

im patiently waiting for the outcome of my interview that i had yesterday. They said by the end of the week/early next week. Came out of it feeling positive but the more time that goes on the more im feeling that I actually didn’t do as well as I first thought.

anyone else waiting for an interview outcome?😁

Fingers crossed you hear today @Vtm !!!

I just had a final round interview earlier this afternoon which I think went well.. but I've thought that before so I'm trying to not get my hopes up. I have another final round call in an hour from now - my head is already fried, I hope I can be coherent!

firebrand123 · 07/06/2024 17:22

Ok, apparently I can't be coherent. I totally messed that interview up. The way I interpreted it was that it was going to be a fairly informal call (it was only 30 mins) but what I got was a proper interview with the types of questions I wasn't expecting and for some reason I rushed all my answers and just made a right old hash of it 😭

Vtm · 07/06/2024 17:41

@firebrand123 that's what happened with me couple of days ago. Fingers crossed it is still positive for you.

I have not heard back so it will be a wait over weekend.

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 07/06/2024 17:52

I'm sorry to hear that firebrand123. Knowing what interviewers want is a constant guessing game, isn't it?

firebrand123 · 07/06/2024 17:59

Thanks! It really is @Trumpetoftheswan2. I think maybe I was a bit too confident with this one, I had a really good feeling after the last round but I should know by now not to trust that too much!

Ah no, what a pain @Vtm - fingers crossed for good news early on Monday!

Not always - I've had a couple of recent interviews where they've been very clear about what would be expected and the sort of answers they would like to hear. Amazon was really good in that sense. The other one was my new employer, where I've just finished my first week.

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 08/06/2024 05:23

Congratulations on your new job. Do you mind me asking, are you waiting for the outcome of an interview as per the thread title?

Not any more, but I was out of work for 16 months, so I did quite a bit of it.

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 08/06/2024 09:34

Every empathy - it's grim and really important for people to have a place where they can just get things off their chest without being told they're wrong.

Sorry I'm snippy. I had another rejection yesterday and was just trying to offer support to someone in a similar boat. Your comment came over as patronising (yep, I know I was generalising thanks!) which I understand may not have been your intention.

EBearhug · 08/06/2024 10:08

It wasn't my intention, so sorry about that. But it does seem to me in this round of job hunting at least, that some places have much more open and fair recruiting processes than used to be the case. No more weird questions about gnomes in a cave, as I had once at an interview about 20 years ago. (It was to do with how my problem solving techniques worked, though I don't remember the details.)

I know from the other side that interviewers can't always move as fast as they want to, especially with big companies where more than one person has to sign off on it, and manager X or HR person Y is on holiday or off sick. It isn't really any comfort to know you're potential new manager is getting pissed off at having to wait on someone in HR to get back from leave, but it has helped me a couple of times to remind myself no news might be slow bureaucracy rather than bad news.

firebrand123 · 10/06/2024 09:15

I got a job offer! HR from the first interview I had on Friday (not the one later in the day that I thought I messed up) phoned me late Friday evening to let me know I got it. Only thing is, they're offering me £5k less than the salary range she'd told me was on offer for this role. They've looked at my current base salary (which I was honest about, for some weird reason...should have inflated it, lol) and thought they'd still offering significantly more but my current package is better overall - better bonus, pension and holidays. So I've emailed them this morning to ask for £5k more and explained all that so hopefully they'll say yes!

EBearhug · 10/06/2024 09:22

Fingers crossed @firebrand123!

Vtm · 10/06/2024 11:30

Congratulations @firebrand123 . Fingers crossed they will accept what you are asking for.

I also got the job offer. It took me 6 months! I did a lot of preparation over this time and a lot of applications. Faced many rejections and ghosting too.

For everyone who is still waiting for results all the best. Its not you, the job market is not great and eventually something will work out.

firebrand123 · 10/06/2024 11:32

Congrats @Vtm !!!

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 10/06/2024 12:17

Congratulations vtm

HellonHeels · 11/06/2024 09:05

Well done to the newly-employed!

And to everyone still on the road to recruitment - keep on keeping on Flowers

Hopefulnurse24 · 15/05/2024 10:33

I got the job!!❤️ good luck everyone!

Congratulations .🥳🥳🥳

My D’s has just started an apprenticeship . The number of interviews he went to that said they would let him know and didn’t is awful .

The one he started took two weeks to offer.

EBearhug · 11/06/2024 09:34

I can understand not replying to applications (though really, they could automate that.)

But I think not responding when they've actually interviewed someone is really rubbish.

firebrand123 · 11/06/2024 09:55

Not giving feedback after an interview is awful. Even an auto-generated email is better than silence (just)! Some of these companies really need to appreciate the time and energy that candidates put in. It's not just showing up on a video call, it's all the preparation, ensuring you've got childcare, trying to fit it all in around all our usual responsibilities, etc, etc. It's possible to put hours into a 30-45 min interview and they can't even sort out a response? I have so much empathy with anyone who finds themselves in that position 🌹

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 11/06/2024 17:05

Agree. If you've been unsuccessful, you just need that closure. It's so unsettling waiting for something that isn't going to happen.

SummerLightning · 11/06/2024 17:19

Also looking for jobs at the moment - such a frustrating process. Also annoying - recruitment consultants who suck up one week and then ghost you the next - super annoying! Plus another company where I'm just hanging on not being told yes or no yet. Argh!

qlpppieit · 13/06/2024 14:29

Checking in, had an interview yesterday for a level transfer role in the civil service. I think it went well but my last interview was such a car crash I think I'm putting my expectations too high on the basis it went better than the last time!

As it's civil service know it won't be this side of the weekend, can't stop refreshing the portal though 🙈 anyone else waiting on a civil service result?

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 13/06/2024 18:20

I was put on a reserve list for a grade 7 civil service job last week. First CS interview, external candidate, so not bad ( but obvs no job either!)

The rejection email said to email if I wanted feedback, which I duly did, and I haven't heard back. I thought CS feedback was scores for each element, so not a huge job to get to an unsuccessful candidate?

Any idea how long this could take? I know it's instant on the CS portal but this was a dept specific application process.

Best of luck for the outcome of your interview.

qlpppieit · 13/06/2024 18:58

@Trumpetoftheswan2 thank you, it's really bad form they haven't been more proactive with your feedback, if it's not on the CSJ website then it'll be down to how long HR take; remember it can be treated as a SAR which has a 1 month statutory deadline so perhaps if you haven't heard anything in a week you can gently ask them to treat is as a SAR which should put a little fire under them...

Trumpetoftheswan2 · 13/06/2024 19:05

Thanks. I know it's not that big a deal as the position is that I passed the interview but another candidate scored higher than me, but having had so many interviews where the only feedback has been 'someone else had more relevant skills and experience' I was (sadly) looking forward to something more constructive that I could work with!
