How much do you earn

Have previously come across a similar thread on another forum and it was so interesting! Basically people commented with their job, age and how much they earn. I hate my job/industry and feel it doesn't pay well like I was led to believe but also feel I have no idea what's out there career/job wise and how much various jobs would earn so what I could do.

I'm 27, a solicitor in Scotland and earn £35k

@GorvidAl

I’m a Russian scam artist who trawls popular forums asking how much people earn and what job they do so I can find new victims.

Tomorrow, I might post another thread under a different name asking what MNers name their pets, or their first child. Then I might post yet another thread asking about your parents’ names.

I earn however much we can get from your bank accounts, PayPal, Amazon, etc.

And once you’ve got people’s secret answers, how exactly are you going to get their full names and/or emails to actually find the account? Works much better on Facebook than mumsnet!

...and op never appeared again. But it gave lots of people room to brag so that was useful!

floopidy · 27/01/2021 22:00

Nope.

We as women tend to make different life choices, ie having kids.
This is where the data is drawn from to deduce there is a gender pay gap.

Re the bragging : Well it hasn't so far.

The problem is either people genuinely want to see what the level of income is or if people do say truthfully and it happens to be high they are accused of bragging or lying on here.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 27/01/2021 22:03

Self employed earning about £300 a month at the moment, thanks Covid

It’s not just about people’s security questions. A lot of MNers would be pretty easy to track down in real life.

‘Hi ladies, I just moved to Esher and am looking for a good nursery for my DD aged 3.’

‘Aww thanks, Daisy would love Esher Daycare, it sounds great!’

‘I work PT at a pharmacy on Esher High St, everyone is lovely!’

‘Thinking of buying a new car, I really like a Touareg. We looked at a silver one at the weekend, here’s a pic.’

‘DH is a salesperson at a local computer company.’

How hard do you think it would be exactly to find this imaginary person in real life based on her MN posts?

Do you not think people do this stuff every day to try and scam people? You can be as complacent as you like, but it’s actually a thing.

Wishitsnows · 27/01/2021 22:05

Floopidy that is a horrific thing to say! Do you think men do that also to earn more?

tinkywinkyshandbag · 27/01/2021 22:05

Where are all the normal people who work in Tescos or as dinner ladies?? Everyone on here seems to be at the high end.

hemhem · 27/01/2021 22:05

There is definitely a gender pay gap but it is partly due to life choices in my experience. I know I'm paid the same as male peers but because I choose to work part time my actual pay is lower, and this gets reported as a pay gap. Multiply this by every other part time worker (lets face it, most are women) and ta da a huge gender pay gap appears and the real issue about equality is lost in a sea of crappy data
