How much do you earn

Have previously come across a similar thread on another forum and it was so interesting! Basically people commented with their job, age and how much they earn. I hate my job/industry and feel it doesn't pay well like I was led to believe but also feel I have no idea what's out there career/job wise and how much various jobs would earn so what I could do.

I'm 27, a solicitor in Scotland and earn £35k

YouBoggleMyMind · 27/01/2021 23:34

Admin and finance officer part time (2.5 days a week) just over £12.2k a year. I'm 33.

IdblowJonSnow · 27/01/2021 23:36

Nothing. Retraining.
The most I've ever earned is 20k

BanditoShipman · 27/01/2021 23:37

Operations, 43, £80k (not London)

I think mumsnet really does represent the higher earners in society or those with partners or husbands /wives I don't know anyone in real life who is earning so highly. This basically comes across as a smug bragging thread for us mere mortals.

recklessgran · 27/01/2021 23:42

64, investment banker, £270k plus bonuses

It’s also a reflection of area. There’s many places in the north that just wouldn’t pay the high wages they do in the South.

It looks more impressive than what the reality would be I assume. Also don’t forget once you’re over £44/5k or thereabouts, you have to pay 40% tax so it’s not like you get to keep it all.

Do you want an apprentice?! 🤣
openallthetime · 27/01/2021 23:46

Seems to be that this thread is unrepresentative of real life. I'm not doubting that there are high earners, but mumsnet stats seem seriously skewed towards high earners.

Chumleymouse · 27/01/2021 23:46

Yeah where’s all the people who work in Mac Donald’s and home bargains on minimum wage ?

25, hooker unlimited ££££££. But not very busy at the moment due to COVID 19

rubyjoo2 · 27/01/2021 23:47

@tinkywinkyshandbag I wouldn't consider working in tesco 'normal'

I would consider middle of the road 25/30k semi skilled worker normal.

m0therofdragons · 27/01/2021 23:47

Quite a lot on here are in the £20k range so I don’t think it’s bragging. I work with a number of high earners (6 figures) but never met one who is under 40 as that tends to be for jobs with experience that you simply can’t have by age 28.

rubyjoo2 · 27/01/2021 23:48

well 40k is an average wage (based on a professional job, with a college education)

my wage is a bit all over the place at the moment as I'm self employed but probably around 35k per year,

age 25.

Oliack1417 · 27/01/2021 23:48
  1. In HR, For a global bank. £82k
Iknowwhatudidlastsummer · 27/01/2021 23:50

I am an MN poster

I earn £63 a year but I blame the Patriarchy.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 27/01/2021 23:51

I'm not going to say my salary but will say that I do get bonuses (the last few years) equal to about 40k. However, I am 62 and at the tail end of a long career, where I have risen to the top of my field. This is it for me, I was meant to retire this year but they asked for one more year.

I came on to say that we have a really interesting dynamic where I work in that we are mostly women and find ourselves SEEKING men to hire. So few send resumes, never mind interview. There are 50 ee's, and it is a professional environment, certainly no different treatment and no pay gap for either. For some reason mostly women gravitate towards our area of law.

GirlInterrupted · 27/01/2021 23:53

I think the more appropriate questions would be age, location, qualifications, working hours, years experience, taking into account travel time to and from work (in normal life when no Covid) and then working out the gross pay per hour. Some people here might be earning $$$$$, but at what cost? A good mate earns a shed load, but once you account for things above, not so great....
