How much do you earn

Have previously come across a similar thread on another forum and it was so interesting! Basically people commented with their job, age and how much they earn. I hate my job/industry and feel it doesn't pay well like I was led to believe but also feel I have no idea what's out there career/job wise and how much various jobs would earn so what I could do.

I'm 27, a solicitor in Scotland and earn £35k

bridgetreilly · 28/01/2021 11:06

Charitable sector. 4 days/week. £26k.

bridgetreilly · 28/01/2021 11:07

Oh, I’m 47.

PoundShopPabloEscobar · 28/01/2021 11:07

name changed....

48, £140K + pension and bonus as a technology product lead in financial services.

I think it's really important to share this type of info. I understand maybe not in real life because big differences can create discomfort between people, but the secrecy around wages stops people making informed decisions, both for themselves and politically. When I was in my twenties I thought £20K was a good wage. I knew "fat cats" existed but assumes that was FTSE 100 CEOs and successful business owners. I had no conception that there were whole industries where 6 figures was standard, and that FTSE 100 CEOs would be on millions.

YukoandHiro · 28/01/2021 11:08

Thanks @Triffid1 - all interesting points to consider.

Female.
Used to earn £200k (basic and bonus) 11 years ago when I was fully established with a good client network.

Law/ London/ £85-90kish (they keep changing the allowances).

It’s not high for my industry but it’s ok and the hours are between 8am and 7pm about 80% of the time.

TravellingSpoon · 28/01/2021 11:31

Support Worker, £18k full time. Midlands, age 36. Love the job.

Used to earn more when I did sleep-ins in a similar previous job for a national charity.

Sethy38 it envy or skepticism that motivates posts like this?

Certainly not, I’m happy with my career I just don’t feel the need to post here. But really anyone could just say anything.
