Looking for people from the previous thread that closed as must of been full?

@Chissols - I have 2 bank accounts at the moment. I noticed on my end of year statement with Lloyds (which is my newest account) that it does not charge for paying in Euros (but I don't know if that will change after Brexit). I also have a First Direct account and they have never charged me whenever I have had US dollars paid in as far as I can see, unless it comes out in the exchange rate, but I have only had small amounts paid in. I do not do online banking.

We got the laptop sorted out more or less for the printer in that it is no longer slow/freezing etc but it will not print on the photo paper I bought....!

Chrissols · 09/10/2020 15:32

@Gally123 you just have to remember to put your IBAN number on the invoice, I'm sure you will know if you already deal in euros etc., but it can be found on your bank statement.

Glad your laptop's good, but shame about the photo paper, costs a fortune that stuff

The point when you are halfway through a letter then you end up filling the note box up as the dictation becomes so awful 😫 Would you send the task back or send it off and risk the full wrath of the proof readers ? 🤣🤣

Do you think over 20 notes is too many 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Chrissols · 15/10/2020 07:46

That depends how long the dictation is 😂😂

@meha5: That is funny - but yesterday there were some awful dictations requiring use of the notes box. I got a feedback from one I typed 'very serious event as can lead to a Never Event':
I typed 'On examination of the oral cavity' ... apparently it should have been 'On evaluation' ... I am at a loss to understand this comment??! Confused.

Whitestar5 · 15/10/2020 10:52

I would think it means that 'examination' is physical and 'evaluation' could be remote (looking at notes, phone conversation for example), so the fact that 'examination' is recorded instead of 'evaluation' (two similar sound words, and we all know how difficult that is when transcribing) means that an examination didn't actually happen - a 'Never Event', it's just a shame that transcribers are expected to take responsibility for discrepancies when presented with awful dictation and paid peanuts for the privilege.

danblack87 · 15/10/2020 11:17

@whitestar: I would ordinarily agree with what you say except that it was followed with "of the oral cavity" so, therefore, an examination must have been made??

I suppose we'll never get to know Dan. It's very difficult to do transcription without notes to refer to isn't it.

Whitestar5 · 15/10/2020 12:37

What are your thoughts on having to type messages/instructions dictated to the secretary/admin staff in the notes box? I personally think there should be another box to insert these messages and that we should be paid for them.

Chrissols · 15/10/2020 13:02

I think when it is a direct message to the secretary we should definitely get paid, it is unpaid work at the moment which doesn't seem right at all

OP posts:
Whitestar5 · 15/10/2020 13:18

@Chrissols Yes it's exploitation, as 8 pence a line otherwise doesn't compensate for this.

Whitestar5 · 15/10/2020 13:37

Does the same thing happen with other companies like T-Pro for instance?

danblack87 · 15/10/2020 13:37

I believe we should get paid specifically for a dictation that only has a note to a secretary, i.e. a memo and typed as such rather than in a notes box. If I was in the office I would type it out (note to myself) and put it in my in-tray to be dealt with after finishing the typing for that day Hmm; that way we would get paid for it!!

Chrissols · 15/10/2020 14:04

@Whitestar5 I have not come across it with any other company, including Tpro

@Chrissols Thanks, I just wondered.

I agree. Either we should be paid for 'memos' or they shouldn't be on the system for us to type for free.
danblack87 · 15/10/2020 14:38

Put it this way the advantage would for the benefit of the Provider and the transcriptionist; lucratively we would get paid and the Provider would get paid too for the lines typed!?

Notes box should be for queries re. dictation only not for lengthy admin details to ANO [Most often found in notes from the dictator to the PA regarding costing/codes/chasing investigation reports, etc in the private sector]. ALSO, the task that just says please add to last letter 'etc, etc' also should be a memo, the same transcriptionist does not always pick up the next job and I have little knowledge of what the task is about in the first place let alone patient ID details (often left off).

Whitestar5 · 15/10/2020 15:03

Looking at the DICT8 manual, it doesn't appear to mention what to do about instructions dictated to the secretary etc at all, but perhaps DICT8 overlook this while they are getting business and the clients are getting that perk for free in the notes box, at our expense of course.

danblack87 · 15/10/2020 15:21

I agree, missed opportunity by Dict8?? Surely they should know the notes box is being abused by the client/missed revenue by them and wages to us transcriptionists?

danblack87 · 15/10/2020 15:53

OMG I have had so many inaudible tasks today it is unbelievable (I mean TOTALLY inaudible). Time for Wine ... early I know, but that is how I feel Sad

Whitestar5 · 15/10/2020 16:46

Yeah, it's a soul destroying job whatever. Intense work for little reward. I feel I've wasted my working life on it.

Chrissols · 16/10/2020 11:17

I have just done what I thought was a long task, but then a lot of it was messages for the secretary so not really lucrative at all

OP posts:
Meha5 · 17/10/2020 11:06

Had some really sad tasks this week, definitely beginning to see the consequences of the lockdown on some patients !!

danblack87 · 22/10/2020 10:43

How is everyone: it is very quiet on the social and work front this week ... probably cause of 1/2 term?!

Gally123 · 22/10/2020 11:07

It is not half term in my area until next week, but some private schools (to which consultants may send their children) are off this week as generally the week before.

Very quiet on the typing front this week, although today has been a bit better, but Monday-Wednesday was almost as bad as total lockdown.
