Civil Service Pre-Employment checks- how long?!

Hi,

I’ve currently been waiting 8 weeks to receive a formal offer for the Home Office. I have completed the Security Vetting questionnaire which now shows as completed on their site.

Any idea how much longer I should expect to wait? I applied for this job a year ago! It seems like it’s no secret but their recruitment process seems so clumsy!

Anyone? Thanks!

I finally got my start date through! took 5 & 1/2 months - good luck to everyone still waiting, hang in there!

Polarbearflavour · 10/12/2018 15:12

I’m now waiting for “basic disclosure” from the Cabinet Office. It was sent off nearly 3 weeks ago.

It’s for an MoD job. It’s been 4 weeks since I was offered the job and I was advised that it took 6-8 weeks on average to complete all the checks but that’s including SC, which I already have.

I’m sure the Christmas shutdown will not help. I’m so eager to start ASAP as I’m working part time at the moment and only have to give one weeks notice.

Turexy · 10/12/2018 15:25

@tashajob, that’s Great news. I have emailed several time about start dates. Still nothing. Did they call or email you about the start date? Could please tell me if there’s any particular no or email you called to get this start date?

oreoxoreo · 11/12/2018 14:16

Does anyone know at which point I get told what's the pay? My provisional offer says nothing. Can I assume that will be lowest scale mentioned on the job advert?
Currently waiting for my pre-employment checks, was very embarrassed when I had to fill out that I am known by two other names (two previous marriages). I hope that's just for the checks but not for the direct employer to know.

tashajob · 16/12/2018 21:02

They emailed me about the start date @turexy ! I tried to email them beforehand to hurry it all up but they kept saying they'd process it soon so, unfortunately, chasing it up won't help. I hope they get back to you soon!

tashajob · 16/12/2018 21:04

@oreoxoreo I assume you'll be told the pay once you get a formal offer and contract. If you're talking about the EO Caseworker job then the pay was advertised as £26866

Polarbearflavour · 16/12/2018 22:00

My checks were completed on Friday! Now waiting for my new line manager to contact me with my start date! Grin

Turexy · 16/12/2018 22:35

@tashajob finally got a start date. It’s been an overwhelming experience loool. Good luck everyone x

NymeriaRhaenys · 29/12/2018 02:49

Congratulations to everyone who’s finally got their clearance! So happy to look and see it’s going well for you!
I’ve been in my job now for a month and a half. It’s a fantastic job. Well worth the wait!

Hope everyone’s had a wonderful Christmas!

daisychain01 · 29/12/2018 05:04

oreo background security checks are independently conducted by a separate government agency, so the answer is no, your prospective line manager definitely doesn't get to know any of your personal information of that nature.

daisychain01 · 29/12/2018 05:08

Also if you're still being security cleared, they won't discuss salary until they've completed those checks, then they'll let you know if you have the job, and you'll be able to discuss salary then. Not necessarily the bottom of your grade, it depends on factors such as skills and experience plus salary attained previously.

tashajob · 02/01/2019 10:55

for those who have already started the job, how long did it take to get further information once you confirmed your start date?

NymeriaRhaenys · 02/01/2019 12:58

Hi @tashajob as soon as I got confirmation of my start date - I had that direct email then from the company that dealt with HR things etc.

tashajob · 02/01/2019 13:00

Okay thanks, @NymeriaRhaenys. I think they may be taking longer because of the xmas holidays, but I confirmed my start date 3 weeks ago and haven't heard anything! Getting anxious to know details for my first day

NymeriaRhaenys · 05/01/2019 17:30

@tashajob that could be a deciding factor in it. The holidays I mean. It’s odd they haven’t given you any details though. When is your start date? What department are you working for?
Mine was a rushed start date. As soon as my vetting was cleared they asked me when I wanted to start - and since I’d already given my notice in I asked for it sooner. Worked out well and I was able to start within 2 weeks. But it was stressful to get the information back as confirmed within the time frame.
Have the office you’re working In not been in touch?

oreoxoreo · 07/01/2019 17:14

Well it's been about a month since my provisional offer and the hiring manager has been in touch to agree final offer conditions and start date as they are progressing well with the checks. I am positively surprised with their final offer! Just waiting for the checks to be completed before handing my notice in.

Polarbearflavour · 08/01/2019 13:44

I start next week. Smile

So I interviewed in October, was offered the job in November from the reserve list and start in January. So not too bad in terms of CS recruitment!

Naturetree · 08/01/2019 14:03

Hallelujah, I finally received my start date after 7 and a half months, I start on 4th February!

Turexy · 08/01/2019 14:33

@polarbearflavour you are so lucky, the process was over 6 months for me. I am meant to be stating Monday don’t even have a contract I have no idea how much my salary is. The whole process has been a JOKE

Polarbearflavour · 08/01/2019 15:23

@Turexy that is shocking! Which Department are you meant to be working in?

wizzywig · 08/01/2019 16:36

12 weeks for me for a job at moj

LP1988 · 09/01/2019 19:36

Hey. I got a provisional offer at the end of November. I’m going through SC checks which I submitted just before Christmas. Does anyone know when I can expect a formal offer?

HurryUpThisSmileIsKillingMe · 09/01/2019 22:08

Does anyone have a number for some form of Civil Service HR?

I got a provisional before Christmas, but need SC checks but as yet no contact whatsoever about providing the necessary info needed. I did provide basic info re current address and NI number which I filled in via the jobs portal but surely a checks needs more info and done by a separate organisation?

I have not been provided with any contact details other than email on original advert - which now has auto-response saying job closed.

Any suggestions what to do next? I just want some contact to know how/if things are progressing.

tashajob · 09/01/2019 22:47

Don’t worry, everyone who’s got a start date now has been through the same confusion. It took over 6 months for all of my checks to be complete and I’m about to start next week. Your checks are still progressing, they’re just slow. They’re not very good at keeping you updated on their process & you’ll be told that they can’t give you a start date for ages. But hopefully their process is speeding up a bit and it shouldn’t take you as long! The person you should contact for now is the email address that sent you the job offer 😊

HurryUpThisSmileIsKillingMe · 10/01/2019 09:40

tashajob thanks for the reply. The problem is the email address on the provisional job offer is a 'no-reply' address and the only other email (from the advert) bounces back with 'Thank you for your interest, this job is now closed....'

Gaaaah!
