TLDR version: Sandie Peggie vs Royal College of Nursing is currently being heard. The hearing started on Wednesday 23 September 2026 and is scheduled to end on Thursday 1 October 2026.

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims were of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claimed to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and after a prolonged process judgment was handed down on 8 December 2025. That judgment is being appealed and an appeal hearing is expected to take place in 2027.

Additional legal claims have been raised. Sandie Peggie is taking action against the Royal College of Nursing, against three senior managers who were witnesses in the employment tribunal - Dr Kate Searle, Dr Maggie Currer and Esther Davidson, against Carol Potter, the chief executive of NHS Fife, for victimisation, against NHS Fife for discrimination, and against its director of people and culture David Miller for harassment. In addition, Sandie Peggie is being investigated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council over fitness to practice.

I have to say that Sandie displayed a significant level of restraint in the circumstances as described by DU.

Agreed. One needs to know one's smalls.

Never forgotten a poor girl in tears being hurried out by friends with a huge flooding stain on the back of her skirt in a class, we must have been about 14. It's absolutely humiliating, and girls are trained from the start to be as discreet about it as possible (among teenaged boys making it as difficult as possible).

Yes, absolutely to any decent woman would have been glad to give another woman privacy, would have left instantly and said nothing more than 'do you need me to get you anything'. But they would not be thinking solely and exclusively all about themselves and the experience they wanted to get from being with that woman, or the buzz of saying no to her and seeing her distress, humiliation and enjoying that lovely coercive dominance. Because actual women don't do that fuckery.

Wishesandhorses · Yesterday 22:10

It is another example of the experience Madigan presented all those years ago, when I was still naive enough to go 'a male women's officer you say? Ok. I'll embrace this experience open mindedly and believe this may be a woman in a man's body, what do I know?'

Only to rapidly experience 'oh. No. Its a bloke, in a bloke's body, doing the exact kind of blokey things that the grottier ones do.'

And that experience has happened over. And over. And over. And over. Uninterrupted pattern.

Have finally caught up.

I’ve been an RCN member for 36 years - I want my money back! 😡

If the Darlington Nurses Union needs any marketing materials, a few framed quotes from this afternoon's session will do it.

Which is obviously the reason why I have whiskers in the image of me at the computer.

It is no way a true reflection of the length of the hairs on my face.

I think Beth got off lightly with Sandie.

I'd have been shouting at him to get the Fuck out.

Yeah, I'm with you there. I would probably have torn his eyeballs out but I'm really shit at finding a reasonable balance.

Violent threats should be condemned, right?

Oh absolutely. I would never threaten to tear his eyeballs out. I would just have torn them out if he didn't fuck off PDQ.

How is the Cornell thread going?

Still catching up, been a longgggg day. DSs first full day in specialist school and we are all knackered, but this just shot my adrenaline through the roof:

NC: RCN was prepared to provide some behind the scenes in individual changing room cases, but not prepared to take a public stance in support?

PM: Not sure which case?
NC: This one, Sandie Peggie.

Fuck me sideways with a San Pedro cactus, does she even know where she was?

You have a fine way with words!

I hope your DS's day went well, if tiring for all.

Also it went really well. He's done plenty of half days, it was just his first full day. I had just about forgotten how long the school day was for a full day. Finally feel like it's onwards and upwards though.

Excellent!

I can’t comment if the legal threshold has been met for discrimination but, my goodness, the RCN have proved they’re captured all by themselves. They have a website full of Pride tat and a f*ing great flag above their building! Thats kinda hard to deny

I am in another union (allied health one) and it is so interesting to me to follow this case because I feel that there is NO WAY my union would have supported me in a similar situation because of the messaging/ articles in our newsletters etc. I thought I would just have to accept that and put up with affronts to my dignity/ privacy if they arose or face being left out on my arse. It’s so insidious that the unions make us feel like this and had this case not gone ahead it wouldn’t have occurred to me that we can challenge their impartiality on these matters

Appalonia · Today 08:18

I'm loving all the outrage on Twitter about the Eunuch comment! People are literally flabbergasted that she couldn't bring herself to sat that it was wrong...

heathspeedwell · Today 08:33

Just wanted to include this quote under Nick's latest blog from the wonderful Jo March:
"Thank you Nick. Have not, and probably will not see this level of detail from eg the BBC (their website hasn’t put up a report on the case since Day 1).
None of this is remotely surprising. They have been discriminating against women for years and even now they don’t really see that’s what they’ve been doing. Well done to NC for teasing it out of this powerful woman, who could have done something but chose to look away.
It disgusts me."

Justabaker · Today 08:50

A very short observation on pronoun mania and the brain damage it does.

I was trying to explain a case in the USA to my husband. Lesbian couple, one transitioned in 2010, is pictured with full beard (A). Other member of couple, Chinese -American, bears 3 children (B). B is attempting to divorce A. A found guilty of abusing the children, B gets a restraining order. But looks like A might get convictions overturned by attending an anger management course. B's parents kill A. Take turns shooting A with one gun.

I could not keep the pronouns straight. Because the daily mail article had the beardy bro pic, and her male name, said he and him throughout - I kept tripping and saying 'he'. Finally had to revert to A & B as per above.

I loathe the pronoun thing. I do my best never to use wrong sex pronouns and I couldn't keep it straight.

First they stole our language......it's such a powerful tool.

Datun · Today 09:00

Finally caught up.

PM is going to regret that wishy washy stance. Unable to condemn the affirmation of a child's eunuch identity! It's got terrified written all over it, that response.

I would like to ask them all what they mean by the word inclusive. It seems to be a pretence for we're not taking sides, we're just being nice. I want the answer to 'inclusive of whom'? Every time. And drilled down until they say trans people. Transwomen actually.

Because it's just another word for we have taken sides.

I got the impression that they, some of them at least, genuinely think that the entire concept of 'inclusion' is completely separate to acceptance of gender identity ideology.

Inclusion is normal, everybody should do it, Gender ideology, well, that's a little different, but we're not talking about that, we're talking about inclusion.

I can c&p this morning - can someone else do this afternoon?

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · Today 09:34

Thanks for the link to NW's blog, as someone mentioned in the comments about PM's comment about "lots of 'trans' members", if they don't collect information on it how do they know that how many is a lot.

Given that 'trans' iding people are suppose to be such a small percentage of the population, it seems unlikely that the RCN has 'lots' of 'trans' members, so the whole 'business', as PM referred to the union as, has prioritised something that is insignificant, what with the flag and the tat, you have to wonder why. It definitely doesn't have anything to do with any actual 'trans' members.
