TLDR version: Sandie Peggie vs Royal College of Nursing is currently being heard. The hearing started on Wednesday 23 September 2026 and is scheduled to end on Thursday 1 October 2026.

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims were of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claimed to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and after a prolonged process judgment was handed down on 8 December 2025. That judgment is being appealed and an appeal hearing is expected to take place in 2027.

Additional legal claims have been raised. Sandie Peggie is taking action against the Royal College of Nursing, against three senior managers who were witnesses in the employment tribunal - Dr Kate Searle, Dr Maggie Currer and Esther Davidson, against Carol Potter, the chief executive of NHS Fife, for victimisation, against NHS Fife for discrimination, and against its director of people and culture David Miller for harassment. In addition, Sandie Peggie is being investigated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council over fitness to practice.

It's going to be interesting to see this witness being asked by NC why in the RCN inclusivity never seems to relate to protected characteristics other than the genderism flavour of LGBTQ+.

I struggle with the fact that staff, who at her level are on a decent wage, fail to see how excluding their inclusivity is.

These aren't stupid people (although some do a good impersonation of one).

Are random, no context 'fuck offs!' ok?

I think Justabaker's shouting was fine too. It was a comment on her own actions, not the tribunal.

Worth clicking the link for the photo.

It was mentioned earlier that SF would be unlikely to know how it felt to be intimidated by another man in the same room.

And isn't Bethany Hutchinson beautiful? There seems to be visible joy between those three women, Sandie, Bethany and Jennifer. It’s so heartening to see them supporting each other.

prejudiceandpride · 30/09/2026 10:25

I have my own ET1 submitted last week so solidarity to the PP. Its a nerve wracking and scary process. I'm just glad my union are supporting me - and they know I'm GC as well (its not a GC matter though).

How did he find the condensed milk when he was making flapjacks, then? All those tins.....

Not viewing the tribunal so unsure how the room is arranged.

Does the witness chair have some sort of seatbelt arrangement for when the cross-examination starts?

nebulousMoose · 30/09/2026 10:14

Bloody brilliant. I love flapjacks.

Something worries me, though. Half a tin of condensed milk? What is one supposed to do with the other half?

You could make half of an Ooey-gooey coffee slice (although you really want to make the full recipe)

Nona’s Ooey Gooey Coffee Oat Slices

Base:
· 175 g butter
· 113 g sugar
· 220 g plain flour
· 1 generous teaspoon instant coffee

Middle:
· 397 g can condensed milk
· 50 g butter
· 2 teaspoons instant coffee

Topping:
· 50 g butter, melted
· 2 tablespoons golden syrup
· 1 cup rolled oats
· 1 cup desiccated coconuts

Cream the butter with the sugar, add the coffee (I dissolve it in about a teaspoon boiling water first), mix in the flour. Put it into a baking tin lined with baking paper, press down evenly. I use a tin that is 21 x 24 cm. Bake at 180 °C for 15 minutes.
In the meantime, heat the condensed milk with the butter and coffee (again dissolved in a very small volume of boiling water first) until it boils, take off the heat after the first bubbles appear and let it cool a little.
Melt the butter for the topping, mix the golden syrup into the butter, add oats and coconuts and mix well.
After 15 minutes take the tin from the oven, pour the milk mix over the base, evenly sprinkle the oat crumble on top and bake for another 20 minutes. It might need a few minutes longer, it depends on the oven.
Let it cool in the tin for 5-10 minutes before putting it on a cooling rack.

I imagine her standing on the peak, looking down. She's at the pinnacle of her career. But there's not much to see from up there. The clouds are gathering.

Poor reporting in the Times (again). Do they not have any journalists who have a grasp of this issue?!

"Fraser said it was his understanding that transgender individuals could use the facilities with which they identify, based on guidance from the European Convention on Human Rights."

According to Nick W and TT Fraser said EHRC...

To be fair, we have the Convention, the Court and the Commission all using the same four letters. I have been known to use all the right letters but not necessarily in the right order sometimes, which can confuse others although I always know which one I'm referring to! This may be the journalist getting it wrong, or it may be the journalist using the abbreviation and a sub-editor getting it wrong.

Couldn't resist working in a Morecambe and Wise reference!

Spare condensed milk makes nice icing, with melted chocolate and icing sugar I think. MIL does a great version.

SomewhatGlad · 30/09/2026 10:32

So, if you were running a business, why would you think it best to support
a group of people who were likely to make loud, sustained, vigorous protests against you, possibly involving violence, if you didn’t?

Boiledbeetle · 30/09/2026 10:32

The only thing keeping me going right now is the knowledge that she has to face Naomi later.

Hedgehogforshort · 30/09/2026 10:32

I note PM says that the taken down guidance was “no longer correct”

It was never correct….
