TLDR version: Sandie Peggie vs Royal College of Nursing is currently being heard. The hearing started on Wednesday 23 September 2026 and is scheduled to end on Thursday 1 October 2026.

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims were of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claimed to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and after a prolonged process judgment was handed down on 8 December 2025. That judgment is being appealed and an appeal hearing is expected to take place in 2027.

Additional legal claims have been raised. Sandie Peggie is taking action against the Royal College of Nursing, against three senior managers who were witnesses in the employment tribunal - Dr Kate Searle, Dr Maggie Currer and Esther Davidson, against Carol Potter, the chief executive of NHS Fife, for victimisation, against NHS Fife for discrimination, and against its director of people and culture David Miller for harassment. In addition, Sandie Peggie is being investigated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council over fitness to practice.

I'll scour the other vending machines tomorrow. They make over 5 million a week, so there must be some somewhere.

Incidentally, I've found the hat. I don't think it's made of tinfoil, but...

Having considered the info provided (thanks so much to everyone for that) I think Tate was telling porkies about not knowing this, that and the other. She wouldn't have gone to so much trouble to claim she didn't know if she really didn't know.
Trying to blame SP for not returning her phone calls is classic buck passing to get out from under. I guess it's more than her jobs worth to admit the truth. I don't know if she's a good example of the RCN discriminating against SP though.

It had a rather dense and raw tasting flapjack

Perhaps that was one of the rage-tainted flapjacks that someone upthread was baking while following the tribunal.

From Nick :

"Cunningham then took Fraser to a tweet apparently posted by Wallace in September 2024. This showed Wallace standing semi-naked, wearing fetish gear, apparently receiving oral sex from an unidentifiable man dressed in blue jeans and a yellow shirt. The accompanying text was “Dads worship female penis” [you can find the picture online. I am not going to share it here]."

Oh Naomi! You little devil 😍😍😍😍

ETA:

And...

"Another tweet dated 25 Nov 2025 called the gender critical feminist Helen Staniland “joyless little cunt who deserves the worst punishment”. And another dated 19 Jan this year from a now suspended account declared: “I’m a pervert, a degenerate and an artist.”

He's such a quiet shy demure woman isn't he!

Edited

Bloody hell. At this point, I am once again going to briefly succumb to rage at this whole mad situation, in which a man who just declares he “feels like a woman” is coddled, protected and promoted no matter what else he does in public, while ordinary women just doing their jobs are threatened, harassed and punished for merely pointing out they don’t want to change in their workplace in front of ANY male colleagues, ever.

Male sexual entitlement movement, indeed.

YellowRoom · 30/09/2026 07:46

Nurses! Do you believe in gravity, that the earth isn't flat and sex is binary and immutable? It's a tricky one...

Big thanks to the copy and pasters and commenters x

I think the reason she addresses Naomi using her first name is a technique (she wouldn't address the Judge by her first name). The technique is to attempt to exert higher status over someone potentially wielding power-over, i.e. a person whose status is higher than yours. Using the first name shows a disregard for conventions in addressing professional persons doing their job. It makes difficult questions seem easier to deal with - we're just having a chat eh, you and I, Naomi?

Someone else did that, but I can’t remember who.

Yes, I also remember a witness in another case doing it but can't remember who.
In the case of Tait I wonder if there is also an element of trying to project a relaxed, 'I'm so approachable' persona. This would bolster her suggestion that Sandie was unreasonable in not just picking up the phone to have a good old chat with her about it all.

@fanOfBen How are you feeling? Hopefully the shock is wearing off a bit now. Flowers

Better for a good night's sleep, thank you! I have a black eye, which is a shame as I'm going on holiday in a few days and would have preferred not to attract attention, and a few sore bits, but nothing bad.

I can start off the c&p today, and hopefully that will go fine but I'll shout if it doesn't. This afternoon I'll be out though.

To be fair, it was so dense that it could have knocked someone out if lobbed from a distance, so you may be on to something.

UpstartRedstart · 30/09/2026 08:37

I just want to post my thanks to everyone updating this thread. I have unfortunately found myself taking my employer to tribunal. It’s an incredibly lonely, boring and stressful experience. My now ex-union also failed to represent me in the first stages of my grievance through utter incompetence and outright stupidity. I also work for a public body and the sheer disconnect between HR, management, unions and legal is fundamentally the cause much unnecessary legal action. I’m lucky in that my management support me and HR completely fucked up in so many ways as well as putting their fuck ups in writing that if my issue ever sees the inside of a court I’ll be very surprised. Seeing all of you debating and supporting these cases has given me much comfort even though my case has nothing to do with sex and gender. The fact that you can all see the structural incompetence behind it has made me feel so much better. Thank you!

Just read NW GenderBlog from the Stuart Fraser and Gillian Tait day. What infuriates me is I have worked with so many of these shapeshifters. Zero integrity. Sf just came across as weak. GT came across as being defiant. Who in 2026 is unaware of the trans flag colours. They are as prominent as the Palestine flag and usually in the same demonstrations.

The problem with using this technique to someone like Naomi (if i may call her that😁) is that she will immediately be on to it and will act accordingly. Which is to ignore the manner of address and remain completely professional, thus highlighting the rather rude and unprofessional approach of the interviewee.

As for wanting Sandie to pick up the phone and have a chat, I wonder how she would have reacted if Sandie had done just that, but told her she would be recording the phone call?

Szygy · 30/09/2026 08:47

a rather dense and raw tasting flapjack

@Lougle, sending support. But that did remind me of when I spent some months of my youth working in a cafe and took it upon myself to be in charge of baked goods (first task of the day was to make scones in industrial quantities).

Flapjacks were very popular and sold well, so when I was off one day I told my colleagues where to find my handwritten recipes so they could make a batch.

Next day they said they couldn’t understand why, but the flapjacks had all come back partly uneaten, which was very odd. I asked how long they'd baked them for and was met with faces of 😱 and the question 'Were we supposed to bake them??'

RoseInAPot · 30/09/2026 09:03

Poor reporting in the Times (again). Do they not have any journalists who have a grasp of this issue?!

"Fraser said it was his understanding that transgender individuals could use the facilities with which they identify, based on guidance from the European Convention on Human Rights."

According to Nick W and TT Fraser said EHRC...

Lougle · 30/09/2026 09:04

Hahaha! Flapjacks are one of those things that many can make but few can master. Baking is definitely part of the winning formula!

CriticalCondition · 30/09/2026 09:16

After years of producing underwhelming flapjacks, I have cracked it with the much cited recipe on MN using condensed milk. They are now bloody amazing.

fanOfBen · 30/09/2026 09:18

I used to make flapjack that tasted great, but you had to be happy (as my family and I were) with the fact that it didn't hold together. Just freshly rolled oats, butter and golden syrup. Yum. These days I make my own granola instead, which is not even supposed to hold together. Yum, plus I can cut down the recipe's sugar and add lots of seeds and nuts so it's even virtuous.

CriticalCondition · 30/09/2026 09:23

Here we go. Every tribunal thread needs a recipe discussion.

SoupDragon · 09/09/2023 19:59
250g porridge oats (the cheap type, not large ones),
150g Butter,
2 generous tablespoons (75g) Golden Syrup
half a tin condensed milk
baking tin, no bigger than about 18cm x 28cm
Method:
Preheat the oven to 160 degrees c
Line the baking tin with baking parchment.
Melt the butter in a large saucepan over a medium heat and add the syrup. Keep gently heating and stirring until all is melted and mixed.
Add the condensed milk and mix. Bring to the boil for about a minute. If I'm honest, I just bung the milk in at step 3.
Remove from the heat and gradually add the oats, folding them in. All the oats should be coated, and the mixture quite dense, but still sticky. Don't add so many oats that the mixture becomes dry.
Pour the mixture into the tins and spread about so that it lines the tin to a depth of 2-3cm. Don't squash the mixture in, just spread it evenly.
Bake in the oven for about 15mins. You should take them out when they just start to go brown round the edges, don't leave longer than this. If they're still squidgy in the middle that's fine, they set on cooling.

Boiledbeetle · 30/09/2026 09:27

I've despatched care gerbils to those needing one. You don't need to worry about waiting in for their arrival. They've all got a copy of Father Christmas' universal master key.

If you're lucky your care package won't have been raided by a peckish beetle (or hedgehog @Hedgehogforshort)

What good would it have done if SP had picked up the phone to GT? By GTs own account she was completely and utterly ignorant of the law, biology or anything that might have helped SP. Given the Union was well aware of GI to the point that it was their official creed, to have someone so lacking in knowledge and training on this topic being offered as a source of help to those with GC beliefs seems discriminatory by itself.

I'm just really, really sorry you are having to deal with that and hope you can give the union a kick up the backside too - these people are no different from someone taking money for physical products that they fail to deliver. It's fraud.

You will have to rock the sunglasses on Holiday. 👓

I would let someone else do the C&P today, let yourself heal. Flowers

I use Nigella's flapjack recipe and it turns out really well, some crispy bits around the edges but the rest is soft and chewy.

@UpstartRedstart your care gerbil has arrived, you must live in the same street as the pub! She's useless at tribunals but very soft and squishy and makes an excellent cup of tea.

I'm sorry you are having to go through all the madness.

More gerbils have just left the pub.
