Sunshine on Leith makes me cry every single time, but who would have thought that they would come out swinging for women's rights?

The interview is very punchy, and well worth a read.

'That, though, wasn’t the primary reason that, in May’s Scottish parliamentary elections, Craig didn’t vote SNP for the first time since 1983. That reason was “the anger that I still feel that they passed a self ID bill which was so badly [formulated]”. He’s talking about the 2022 Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill that makes it easier for individuals to change their legal gender. “It’s so badly done that it inevitably led to violent men, including convicted rapists, being sent to women’s prison. For me, that is unforgivable.”'

I'm going to stream the new album as soon as I can. And, as a side note I think they are one of the best bands I've seen.

The Proclaimers: The trans lobby are truth-phobic

Ahead of a provocative new album, Craig and Charlie Reid on their anger at the SNP, Western warmongering and the imperilment of free speech

I doubt much of trans Reddit will have a clue who they are. Most of them seem to be about 15 years old.

You may have a point, I had a look and there’s nothing there yet. I’m prepared to give it time, it’s possible there’s some who are aware of them because their grandparents were fans.

MarcTheGenderSkeptic · 09/09/2026 15:48

One of the biggest disappointments I have about "my team" is how few men in positions of visibility and influence could bring themselves to voice a borderline brave opinion, let alone one even vaguely supportive of women.
Yes, Glinner for sure, Jordan Peterson, Richard Dawkins and Douglas Murray. Ricky Gervais for the bantz.
But who else on the XY side? Can't think of anymore, actually.
Men, who could easily have bared the brunt of blowback more easily than 99.9% of women in the public eye.
So a big call out to The Proclaimers for being blunt and truthful here.

FedUpCelery · 09/09/2026 16:07

I saw them at the weekend and they were fab.

Loved "those fucking bairns who JKR made fortunes for"

Thoughts and prayers for David Tennant in these difficult times 😁

Snortle!

NotMyRealAccount · 09/09/2026 16:27

Good lads. It's always encouraging when a public figure who's too big to be cancelled speaks up.

DialSquare · 09/09/2026 16:38

Brilliant. Love them. Just waiting for the TRAs to come on and accuse them of being far right!

BeerFlavoredNipples · 09/09/2026 16:39

Fabulous lads!

tobee · 09/09/2026 16:52

There are depressingly few genuine pro women people prepared to speak up in the entertainment business. It is lovely to see it here!

INeedAPensieve · 09/09/2026 17:00

I'm just waiting for the bat(shit) signal to go out for this thread and ruin it...

However before they do descend on us to educate scold us, I want to say how happy I am to hear this from these guys.

Lottapianos · 09/09/2026 17:01

'Yes, Glinner for sure, Jordan Peterson, Richard Dawkins and Douglas Murray'

Oh gosh I do enjoy Douglas Murray, for all sorts of reasons 😉 I feel like he genuinely empathises with women and understands why this issue is so important and so existential for us. Whereas I don't feel that Dawkins or Peterson get that at all - they're just offended by how untruthful and illogical trans ideology

Haha...indeed he'll be a tad upset I reckon!

Well done to them!

zanahoria · 09/09/2026 17:12

Proclaiming they are Gender Critical!

oviraptor21 · 09/09/2026 17:15

weegielass01 · 09/09/2026 14:33

david tennant will be fizzing, doesn't he adore the proclaimers? At least we'll be spared him badly singing 500 miles at every opportunity now.

Maybe that's why they're saying it so emphatically. To stop him butchering their song!

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 09/09/2026 17:19

Sorry nope. They once put me off my stride during sex with Ten Thousand bastard miles just as I was nearly there. Would've taken another 10,000 miles to get back there so I just gave up. Never forgiven them.

Edited to add: but I could reconsider the forgiveness based on this news

ColdOut2025 · 09/09/2026 17:29

Was having a good day, whuch just got better!! Love them, their music has meant a lot to me since I found them 25 years ago,and so nice to not be let done again by left wing artists: they have principles and balls. Hope they tour again near me soon!!

ChaToilLeam · 09/09/2026 17:50

Good lads! I don't like their music at all but they have risen greatly in my esteem for this. So many Scots have really swallowed the TWAW bollocks, this is really going to stick in their collective craw. Popcorn will be needed. 🍿

nauticant · 09/09/2026 17:53

They're being interviewed on Radio 4 now.

Abhannmor · 09/09/2026 17:57

So glad a left wing band have said this. So deeply disappointed by my old faves like Jimmy Somerville et al. Yes , Hibs have the best song now , eat yer hearts out Liverpool, Celtic whoever.
Truth- phobic is a brilliant coinage !

IwantToRetire · 09/09/2026 17:59

I'm glad someone started this thread!

That TRA twat who is allowed to drivel all over the BBC PM programme has just tried to tell them its sort of right wing to complain about woke (wasn't sure exactly what he said) and they just him him in his place.

Fantastic!

user293948849167 · 09/09/2026 17:59

Have actually seen them live a few years ago, they were great! Going to be listening to them quite a lot more after this

SorryforyourlossMoveon · 09/09/2026 18:09

Love The Proclaimers for this.
And if it upsets that prick Tennant, I love them even more.
