Graham Linehan on Jon Ronson's new book

My ex-friend Jon Ronson may be a case study in the corrupting toxicity of trans ideology. An interesting read.

His book chapter about me stands as an indictment of him and the cowardly social class of people who refuse to confront uncomfortable truths

Your quote above relates to Zionism.

Plenty of people who aren’t Jewish live in Israel. I assume they are pro-Israel without being Zionist. Belief in the fundamental right to a Jewish state - Zion - is not the same as the defence of that state (Israel).

OK, so you support a non jewish / secular israel?

Victoria Smith has reviewed Jon Ronson's book in the Critic

https://archive.ph/S0Lsi

https://thecritic.co.uk/a-castle-of-bewilderment/

Seems he's reheating some of his previous shtick. Someone upthread complained about Glinner using the initialism NPC. They might want to stop reading now because I think that's how Ronson and his ilk see women, as NPCs.

thank you for that, good review. I really can't be doing with Ronson, I don't see the point of him, and this paragraph nicely explains why.

Ronson regularly reminds us he needs to keep working to avoid unravelling. But what is this work? There’s no heart or principle to it, because those things get too close to being solid beliefs, and solid beliefs are too cringe. They don’t look clever. Show an ounce of sincerity and you’re one step away from becoming a conspiracy theorist.

I also recall a resounding silence from the 'feminists' in the West when it came to protesting about the horrific attacks the female Jewish festival goes suffered by the Palestinian 'freedom fighters' I think the left insists on calling them.
Very similar to the deafening silence the 'feminist's' in the West have for the plight of the women in Iran.
I don't see it as misogynist to say so, criticising women for the lack of support for other women in peril, because of a warped political agenda, isn't women hating, it's calling them out for being the useful idiots they are.
Bit like all those young dimwitted women who are voting for the Greens.

Reem Alsalem, an otherwise admirable campaigner for women's rights within the UN, flat out denied that Hamas raped women during the October 7 attacks.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 31/08/2026 19:56

crikey, that's disappointing

She is Jordanian, and she is culturally unable to side with the Jews on any issue, even if she wanted to.

Everytime someone wants to make a valid point they undermine themselves by quoting the.

Reem Alsalem is accountable to the UN and like it or not the UN says any report under their name has to have been investigated by them.

So for the 900 and 99 time, Netanyahu in his campaign against the UN denied them the right to enter Israel and conduct an investigation.

At a later date an independent report put together by women in Israel, many of whom worked as part of rape crisis support, was endorsed by the UN.

I have no idea why nearly every thread about just about anything finishes us with someone making an inaccurate and inflamatory remark about a woman who has stood up for women's rights.

But well done for dumbing down a FWR thread.

The is just blatant racist nonsense.

I am not going to ask MNHQ to delete because I think it is worth knowing that there are some who post on FWR who have this sort of bigoted views.

As you please; but Alsalem's attitude is just the water that Jews and Jewish Israelis swim in.

I'll leave this article from The Times for anyone to read: https://archive.ph/GSJB0

On second thoughts, maybe I'll quote from it a bit

Yet when it comes to Jewish women, sisterly support falters and dies. Chilly and blank, she appears uninterested in an Israeli being beaten and stripped: it doesn’t fit the account this rapporteur sketched out last year in which “no independent investigation found that rape took place on the 7th of October”. This was despite the UN’s own evidence, not least from Hamas videos, that it certainly did.

Is this report incorrect then? That she said, on X, “No independent investigation found that rape took place on the 7th of October”?

🙄 This isn’t about my views on a Jewish state. (In any case, did you miss where I said my DH is Jewish? You must have.)

Why is your husband's faith relevant? It sounds like you're waving it as a talisman.

Bernard asked if I support a non-Jewish/secular Israel. I answered her questIon.

There’s another poster here who also says her DH is Jewish. Did you ask her the same question?

I said that in response to your announcement because the point was irrelevant to the discussion.

Have you explained why you brought up a random bunch of people going to Israel in relation to Graham yet?

I’m trying to make head or fucking tail of how you’re defining ‘Zionism’ vs ‘supports Israel’ since your posts are remarkably unclear on the matter and your stock response to being asked to explain anything is ‘I’ve already explained that’, when in actual fact you haven’t at all

You did rather start the derail involving Israel/Zionism when you jumped in on page 8 though, didn’t you? The third one, after gaming and Mitchfest.

Mikatdo · 01/09/2026 07:49

It was about a tweet of GL’s relating to left-wing feminists, Gaza and Israel.

Is it really a “derail” if I’m discussing GL on a thread about GL? Or can you only say “Poor Graham, he’s been such a champion, and Jon Ronson is so irritating”.

Got it. That’s me silenced then!

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 01/09/2026 07:54

You’re not silenced for heaven’s sake. You’re just being asked to be clear about the points you are making

feel free to continue being circular and obfuscatory if you prefer, obviously

People asking other people to explain why they have made spurious links totally unrelated to the discussion is not 'silencing' them.

testmatchspecial · 01/09/2026 08:16

I haven’t RTFT so this may have been mentioned but Ronson’s son isn’t trans, he’s referred to in recent articles by his male name and as Jon’s son.

You introduced the right wing influencers paid to visit Israel. Nothing to do with GL. Presumably some kind of hope of introducing guilt by association.

They weren’t totally unrelated. Being told I’m derailing (and that discussion going on between other posters in the background), when I am not, is silencing.

borntobequiet · 01/09/2026 08:27

No discussion is “going on in the background”.

Projection, perhaps?

If they were not unrelated then tell us what the relation is maybe?

You made out Graham might be somehow linked to a bunch of influencers being paid to go to Israel. What is the link?

And the 'discussion going on in the background' is the discussion that anyone cam read, right here, in the thread.

Stop trying to make out there is something going on in secret all because you made weird connections that you wont or cant explain.

Asking someone to use their own words to expand on what they feel the meaning is of a particular term or why they introduced a particular (apparently unrelated) topic isn’t silencing. I’m still no clearer about what the relevance to GL is of Israel paying influencers to visit or their status as ‘pro-Israel but not necessarily Zionist’.
