Graham Linehan on Jon Ronson's new book

My ex-friend Jon Ronson may be a case study in the corrupting toxicity of trans ideology. An interesting read.

His book chapter about me stands as an indictment of him and the cowardly social class of people who refuse to confront uncomfortable truths

Glinner very frequently has made this particular dog-whistle. All Palestinians, to him, are Hamas (read: Jihadists). I don’t know if he actually believes this or is folllowing a party line of some sort, just as many conservative would-be ‘influencers’ are. Some have been paid by Israel to say certain things. (Not suggesting this of Glinner to be clear, and of course, the same could be said of the other side).

In this post, the particularly unpleasant part is the suggestion that left-wing feminists support raping and murdering jihadists because of anti-semitism - and stupidity.

No, none of this is true, it is your interpretation and says more about you than about him.

DworkinWasRight · 31/08/2026 08:16

Except, of course, the woman Glinner is attacking did make clear her revulsion at the 7 October attacks.

He did not attack her, she commented on him without tagging him and he quoted her in return and he did not say 'you'. If you are going to accuse someone of 'Lurching to the Radical Right' then do you not think that person has the right of reply and is allowed to make a comparison to behaviour by the 'opposite' 'side'?

A good amount of highly influential conservative influencers went to Israel a few months ago around about the same time and posted effusively about it. All of these people are pro-Israel (if not Zionists). What would your natural conclusions be about who might have footed the bill for their trips?

No need to ‘wow’. There’s an element on the left whose support of their “Jewish sisters” always has more than a whiff of “yea, but what did they expect?”

No, I’ll continue to be astonished at that post. Thanks.

Nothing wrong with being pro-Israel, it's a democratic country, it has an elected government, it has laws, an educational system, a health service, it's has a social welfare system, it's the only successful country in the part of the world.

Good place to visit if it weren't for the barrage of rockets being fired at it every day by all the failed states around it.

Expensive things rockets! Where do these states get the money for them?

Are you suggecting Graham Lineham funded a good amount of highly influencial conservative influencers to go to Israel? If not why are you making a completely random point?

I rarely make assumptions, if I cared enough to find out I usually dig deeper to actually find out but even then, I've seen so many people accused of being an Ist or a Phobe that I'd look more who was bringing the thing up as an example of questionable behaviour than the behaviour itself.

Why would I need to make any conclusions about the funding of a trip to Israel. People are allowed to go to Israel aren't they? Other people are allowed to fund it? And who knows why anyone funds anything these days.

Well firstly if you are ‘pro-Israel’ you are by definition Zionist. Lots of people go to countries and are funded to do so. Are you one of those people who just has a problem when it’s Israel?

OMG. No. Israel funded them in return for positive coverage.

No, you can absolutely be pro-Israel without being a Zionist.

And no, I don’t have a problem with Israel. My husband is Jewish.

How? How can you be ‘pro-Israel’ while simultaneously thinking that the Jewish people have no right to a homeland?

You missed “Lots of people go to countries and are funded to do so. Are you one of those people who just has a problem when it’s Israel?” btw.

hang on, how are you defining 'zionist'?

the jewish centre for justice defines it like this

Zionism is the belief in the Jewish people’s right to self-determination in our ancestral homeland of Israel. It affirms that Jews, like all peoples, have the right to live in safety, dignity, and sovereignty in a nation of their own.

that just sounds like being pro-Israel to me?

feels like you are not showing all of your working here. if you state some of your assumptions it might help other posters to understand where you're coming from

you are clear in a different post that you don't think Linehan is 'funded' in this way

in which case why are you bringing it up?

I dont understand why you brought this up.

Can you explain.

Also my OH is also Jewish. Not sure what that has to do with Graham Linehan. Who is Irish.

I’ve given you some explanations already. If that hasn’t helped you, I can’t help you further.

i've read the quote history. I am still not clear why you think it is relevant.

I'll get you started

'some people had a paid holiday to Israel in return for writing nice things about them. Graham Linehan did not. However this is relevant to what he posts on twitter about Israel because...'

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 31/08/2026 11:12

I'll say it again, it feels like you have a number of unstated assumptions. It might help everyone if you just put them out there

Your quote above relates to Zionism.

Plenty of people who aren’t Jewish live in Israel. I assume they are pro-Israel without being Zionist. Belief in the fundamental right to a Jewish state - Zion - is not the same as the defence of that state (Israel).

Piffle.

You pointed out THAT post then made up a whole story about how for GL jihadist = Hamas = Palestinians.

I think he's bonkers. But it is exactly the TRA playback to mangle meanings and invent meanings for words.

Be clear and be factual.

Edited for typos

Victoria Smith has reviewed Jon Ronson's book in the Critic

https://archive.ph/S0Lsi

https://thecritic.co.uk/a-castle-of-bewilderment/

Seems he's reheating some of his previous shtick. Someone upthread complained about Glinner using the initialism NPC. They might want to stop reading now because I think that's how Ronson and his ilk see women, as NPCs.

You were referring to the ‘influencers’ , not people living in Israel. None of it has any relevance to GL.
