Polycule falls apart

I expect people remember that Heather Herbert (charged in relation to social media comments he made after Ann Widdecombe's death) is in a polycule with Sophie Molly (aka Sparkles, aka Euan Weddell) and someone called Poppybear.

Molly, I believe, is a witness for Jolyon Maugham in Sarah Phillimore's libel case against Maugham.

Poppybear has been posting some very indiscreet posts on BlueSky about both Molly and Herbert, and it looks, tragically, as if the polycule has fallen apart.

According to Poppybear, Herbert's comments about Widdecombe "painted a bullseye on all of us", and led to the police coming in and "invading" all their devices (whatever that means).

Also according to Poppybear, living with Sophie Molly is "like being permanently slapped around the face by pathological laziness unless it's something that grooms her ego."

I think it's the day it takes effect, having had its 40 days of Parliamentary scrutiny.

I did a school day-trip to London once without using the loo between leaving my house and returning to it. Also in my 20s an overnight train trip, it was perhaps about 12 hours, and I didn't want to lose my seat. Ah, those were the days, wish I could do that now, the constant trips to the loo piss me off big time!

I managed 10 hours last week on a transatlantic flight, had the window seat and unfortunately a lady in the aisle seat with restricted mobility then had to wait till I was through immigration to find a toilet. Thankfully I've got an aisle seat on the way home.

He's trying to copy JKR's strategy that defanged the expectation the Scottish hate speech law could be weaponised against women speaking the truth about men who claim public identities of women. Not an original idea in their little heads.

It won't work though. Because an individual man choosing to go in the ladies bogs isn't in itself an offense. The offense is in a provider pretending something is single sex when it isn't.

So, matey-boy goes in, takes his victory photo and leaves again. No one saw him so no one tried to stop him. The world continues and the law is still the same. The fact he has evidence he was there doesn't impose any obligation on anyone to arrest or sanction him after the event. At most it would be a warning to the provider they need to be clearer about their single sex spaces.

Or maybe someone is there and complains. The service provider asks him to leave. If he does, no harm no foul. Again, the law carries on.

Or he doesn't leave. Now there are plenty of next steps the service provider has, but critically none of them are "because he is a trans", they are because he chose not to leave when asked. And a woman causing problems would be in the same boat.

In other words, the obligation the law places is not on him, and unless he behaves unreasonably nor is the risk of prosecution.

Whereas with the hate speech law, the obligation is on the individual. So JKR created a situation where someone with very deep pockets to defend herself triggered a test case to see whether simply saying a man is a man when that man wants to be called a woman was enough to fall foul of the law or not.

And the police decided it wasn't.

Soapy I think doesn't understand this. So he's trying to ape the strategy without realising it doesn't get him anywhere.

Apparently people from Bash Back have been sharing information with Sophie Molly, and Molly has been sharing information to the police about other members of the polycule. It's the first confirmation we've had of a link between polycule members and Bash Back.
