Polycule falls apart

I expect people remember that Heather Herbert (charged in relation to social media comments he made after Ann Widdecombe's death) is in a polycule with Sophie Molly (aka Sparkles, aka Euan Weddell) and someone called Poppybear.

Molly, I believe, is a witness for Jolyon Maugham in Sarah Phillimore's libel case against Maugham.

Poppybear has been posting some very indiscreet posts on BlueSky about both Molly and Herbert, and it looks, tragically, as if the polycule has fallen apart.

According to Poppybear, Herbert's comments about Widdecombe "painted a bullseye on all of us", and led to the police coming in and "invading" all their devices (whatever that means).

Also according to Poppybear, living with Sophie Molly is "like being permanently slapped around the face by pathological laziness unless it's something that grooms her ego."

Oh dear.

One side effect of corticosteroid use, and pot noodle claims to be on heavy duty doses, is it messes with hormones.

Apart from that probably meaning 5 days of prednisolone at most, steroid side effects are possibly more relevant than expected (and certainly not in the way that is intended to be - elicit a sympathetic response).

Systemic corticosteroids, particularly in high doses, are linked to psychiatric reactions including euphoria, insomnia, irritability, mood lability, suicidal thoughts, psychotic reactions, and behavioural disturbances. These reactions frequently subside on reducing the dose or discontinuing the corticosteroid but they may also require specific management.

Patients should be advised to seek medical advice if psychiatric symptoms (especially depression and suicidal thoughts) occur and they should also be alert to the rare possibility of such reactions during withdrawal of corticosteroid treatment. Systemic corticosteroids should be prescribed with care in those predisposed to psychiatric reactions, including those who have previously suffered corticosteroid–induced psychosis, or who have a personal or family history of psychiatric disorders.

ETA: when combined with a bog standard Ventolin, it increases the risk of low potassium, which can lead to palpitations, fainting, rapid heartbeat and if low enough, cardiac issues.

And wouldn't that be a pity.

Particularly if it were almost entirely fictional but the side-effects happened anyway in a psychosomatic way.

My cat is on prednisalone. That list of side effects explains her being a bit of a needy psycho.

Society has seen a lot of the transition stages but soon we will be seeing a lot more of the regret.

It'll be interesting to see how that pans out. I somehow think it won't be quite so public as the transitioning stages.

All those shouters who were so loud and aggressive - will they still be as supportive of the people who are now regretting their decisions, who will need to try to live their lives as best they can unable to change what they've done to themselves? Will they still be as hateful and angry? Some will turn on the NHS and the likes of Webberly but there will be those who stay silent rather than admit they were wrong. It takes strength to do that.

In my experience happy trans people are happy because they have achievable goals that work with their existing life: I wanted to transition to non-binary, have my breasts removed as I'd always hated them, & switch to Mx & they/them pronouns. My husband & my employer were supportive. I feel better now & more seen as a person. Unhappy trans people are unhappy because their lives were either empty before or they trashed them for unachievable goals & then sit in their room blaming transphobia.

Well you might have removed your breasts but the rest of your body is still female , your pelvis is designed to birth a baby rather than run after a sabre toothed tiger, every month your hormones churn up a shitload of change in your body, physically your stature is likely to fit into the average stature for a western woman, your bodily strength is likely to be that of an average woman so about the same as a pre pubescent boy, most people seeing you will clock you as a woman because of your gait, your voice and your lack of generalised male characteristics. So if you are happy to call yourself non binary inside your head then that’s fine, but to all intents and purposes, you are a woman, because human beings are a binary mammalian species, who live on a world where almost every life form is binary. You know that, and so do your employer and your husband who are being kind and indulging you.

And the people who feel blackmailed and coerced into referring to you as "they/them" and pretending that you don't have a physical, biological sex - are they happy too?

BTW, humans cannot be "non-binary", every one of them has a sex. They can only pretend.

This is a rather weird advert to see on MN but posting it on here because it’s for an art exhibition in Scotland - not one that I’d want to attend, even if I were under 18 and it was free.

And yet another journalist ( that is you DAVID WALKER) whose understanding of the law is faulty.

The Supreme Court ruling confirmed that the words woman and female mean biological women/females . It did not ban anyone from doing anything, but clarified a poorly written piece of legislation that some people, mostly but not exclusively biological males, had appropriated for their own ends.

Can I ask @maximc , why you hated your breasts? Is it because they are a sign of womanhood? Or attracted unwanted attention? Is there a reason you can explain?

In a book by Bill Bryson, he describes working at an old style Home Counties mental hospital in the Seventies where the mildly delusional inmates were free to wander around the local community, causing little trouble but some perplexity.
I feel that society as a whole nowadays is a bit like that local community, but the individuals wandering around are more pitiful, more problematic and more dangerous in their delusions.

Who was that anti-Superman character, was it Mister Mxyzptlk, known as Mxy? I was never sure how to pronounce him either. But if someone who uses Mx would like to tell me I'd be grateful.

Moosh seems to me to lack the essential character of the x, though I do like it (if I haven't misunderstood your post and it's about something else, in which case I apologise and am now totally confused). I think I would tend to spell it "mush", as in "oy, mush!" – but I am not from the south coast. But would it offend someone who insists on Mx? I've always heard it address to males. It might be easier if people came all over Quaker and refused to acknowledge a title at all. Less wearing on everyone else's nerves, anyway.

I would completely ignore Mx. It's bollox.

I just saw Guardian columnist Zoe Williams on sky and it occurs to me she might be Pot Noodles' style template

We were told to pronounce it as 'mix' by the nice HR lady at work. She was helpfully telling us a new colleague identified as non-binary, so 'whenever you speak to her or about her, use they or them'.
