Polycule falls apart

I expect people remember that Heather Herbert (charged in relation to social media comments he made after Ann Widdecombe's death) is in a polycule with Sophie Molly (aka Sparkles, aka Euan Weddell) and someone called Poppybear.

Molly, I believe, is a witness for Jolyon Maugham in Sarah Phillimore's libel case against Maugham.

Poppybear has been posting some very indiscreet posts on BlueSky about both Molly and Herbert, and it looks, tragically, as if the polycule has fallen apart.

According to Poppybear, Herbert's comments about Widdecombe "painted a bullseye on all of us", and led to the police coming in and "invading" all their devices (whatever that means).

Also according to Poppybear, living with Sophie Molly is "like being permanently slapped around the face by pathological laziness unless it's something that grooms her ego."

I can understand women not liking their breasts; mine fed my kids but one of them tried to kill me (breast not kid). However, I don't understand what someone means by being 'seen'.

While on that subject though, If a work colleague had unnecessary surgery, well that's their business, but if they claimed to be somehow betwixt sexes I'd not only see they/them but I'd be as judgey af. I'm certain I'd be forced to comply with their quirks but I'd see that too.

I think being 'seen' seems to involve trumpeting ones specialness and coercing others to believe in that or use forced language.

I think that sentence might have been meant to be understood to mean "seen more as a person" and less something else, though I'm not sure what a woman is if not a person.

I've always rather enjoyed having a forename that didn't signal either sex so that when I was writing, for instance, my work was judged on its merits rather than on my "bear dancing" sex being remarkable for being able to write at all. I have a deep voice; people always misgendered me on the telephone, from about age 14, and thought I was my father if I answered instead of him. Sometimes I bothered to tell them; sometimes I just said "I'll fetch him for you", and I never once said "I'm a girl, you mudeater!"

It's like having a surname people always spell wrong; you can stress about it and constantly correct it, but my exH had an epiphany about that when he'd been told by his mother to book a table for a family do and the nice woman at the caff asked how he spelt that; he said "spell it how you like so long as you know who I am when I arrive and say it" and realised that most people don't in fact need to know. (She meant well, and spelled the name all nohow but seemed happy to see us when we arrived.)

YY to a unisex forename. I once turned up to a remote worksite and caused a panic because they weren’t expecting a woman.

I wandered over and asked which man he meant, because if he meant my father I was deeply flattered, but if he meant John Lange (that's John Norman, for those who don't know) I was going to have to kill him. After first making him run behind a horse for fifteen miles with his head in a sack and his hands tied behind his back, as is done to a woman in one of the early Gor books.

He seemed a little startled, but whether it was because of the evidence that I'd read at least one of that interminable franchise I wouldn't like to be confident.

I've expressed myself poorly. I was using first person for sentiments I have heard others express. I am not non-binary but a biological woman w no gender identity. I don't think non-binary is a good solution to body hating or not feeling that people see you as a person. Indeed it undermines wider political solutions. But it's an example of transition where the person remains functional. It's better than blowing everything up to join a polycule & ending up miserable, on benefits & in court.

Yes few people have a real issue with people who want to transition socially or medically in the absence of other stuff. It's seen as part of the tapestry of human life even if people wouldn't make those choices themselves. Similar to knowing people who are very heavily tattooed or are heavily into woo stuff. Fine as long as its not affecting anyone else. People have a problem when it starts affecting other people.

In the same way, someone who feels more comfortable presenting as whatever identity but has other stuff going on in their life and puts in the work to address poor mental health is likely to have a good life overall. Someone who blames all their myriad issues on being in the 'wrong' body and thinks all their problems will be solved by transition is likely to be very unhappy. Especially as such a person is likely to make transition their whole personality and neglect other projects and relationships. Unfortunately as you said, such people tend to double down and blame other people for their problems rather than realising transition was not going to fix them.

Seems to me that transitioning may be like any other cosmetic surgery; someone (usually female, not always) is sure that all her unpopularity/loneliness/inability in one field or another is because her nose/jaw/whatever is the "wrong" shape, and plastic surgery to correct this fault would make her popular/part of a group/able to write and thus solve all her problems.

She is sure that this ought to be done on the NHS because her mental health is suffering. The NHS doesn't do cosmetic surgery except for unavoidable reasons like severe facial burns, so she has to save up to have it done privately.

When it doesn't magically make her life perfect she is mortified, blighted, disappointed, and several thousand pounds worse off. Also she feels a fool, but is certainly not going to admit that!

And then get hooked on further modification surgeries to have a new start.

Oh yippee, a mass lobby. Maybe there will be someone there to explain what trans rights actually means ( and if they are feeling generous what that nebulous expression “ feeling like a woman” means) because as far as I can make out trans people have exactly the same rights as every other citizen in the country . So if they are trans with a protected characteristic they are entitled to the rights that that protected characteristic gives , but if they are trans without being able to claim a protected characteristic then they are in the same situation as anyone else who doesn’t have a protected characteristic.

Though if you are an entitled middle aged, non disabled, ethnically white male with no religious affiliation and no GRC the huge advantage you had in life is that much of the social and work culture of this country is already set up to heavily discriminate in favour of entitled , middle aged, non disabled, ethnically white males with no religious affiliation and no GRC, so you don’t need the legal protection of a protected characteristic at all. However, if you have chosen to shoot yourself in the foot by ridiculously claiming additional rights because you are wearing a bad wig, make up and womens clothing then that is your own look out.

It's not just Parliament where it's a risk to film. I live in Manchester and you were not allowed to film in my local shopping centre, as it was deemed a security risk.
