Polycule falls apart

I expect people remember that Heather Herbert (charged in relation to social media comments he made after Ann Widdecombe's death) is in a polycule with Sophie Molly (aka Sparkles, aka Euan Weddell) and someone called Poppybear.

Molly, I believe, is a witness for Jolyon Maugham in Sarah Phillimore's libel case against Maugham.

Poppybear has been posting some very indiscreet posts on BlueSky about both Molly and Herbert, and it looks, tragically, as if the polycule has fallen apart.

According to Poppybear, Herbert's comments about Widdecombe "painted a bullseye on all of us", and led to the police coming in and "invading" all their devices (whatever that means).

Also according to Poppybear, living with Sophie Molly is "like being permanently slapped around the face by pathological laziness unless it's something that grooms her ego."

Hang on: does this suggest that more Welsh people are trans than people in the rest of the country?

If it does, why might that be?

Is that overall, or per capita population (there's quite a difference! England, 56.5 million; Wales, 3.2 million; if it is over all, it's terrifying)? Or is it just that there are several clinics in England and only one in Wales?

Is it just that Welsh medics are more likely to pass the buck upwards if someone wants to be treated as the sex they aren't?

I suspect the WGS figures are a combination of trans tourism and that it’s probably run by loons who refer everyone for surgery on the first visit. It was supposed to be independently reviewed in 2024 and has been a service of concern for some time but trans exceptionalism means nothing has been done about this. Thank heavens for Nick Wallis who has been doing what investigative journalists should do.

I watched some, 'what to expect from your first visit' videos from Scottish gender services, which are very affirming, & all made clear that hormones aren't prescribed on the first visit, so I was a bit shocked to see that in Wales they're handed out automatically.

What is trans tourism? Is it a thing now?

Going out of area for a referral if it’s easier. We know this was happening in Brighton with the (now disgraced) enthusiastic trans man doctor. I would imagine the internet has loads of useful information about how quickly you can get an appointment and how readily a particular doctor prescribes.

If it's within an NHS area then it's fine; going out-of-area isn't. For instance, if I live in Oxfordshire I can ask to be referred to any hospital or specialist within Oxfordshire as far as I know (and possibly some units in adjacent counties; not sure about that). What would be dodgy would be to ask for a referral to Aberdeen or Abergale, I expect.

And there was me thinking trans tourism was staying at home in Doncaster and using AI to insert yourself into pics of the French Riviera.

I’m not a fan of headlines suggesting this was simply about a higher rate of referrals. The service was already a Service of Concern and under heightened investigation, so there was clearly a wider context.

The report says the issues identified “include” higher referral rates and concerns about referral appropriateness. “Include” matters — it suggests these were not necessarily the only concerns, particularly while the investigation is ongoing edit - there may be concerning information emerging as part of the process or cannot easily be made public like whistleblowers.

And this isn’t the minute of the meeting where surgeries were paused. So it’s misleading to suggest someone simply saw a high referral rate and decided to cancel all surgery. The published evidence points to a much wider set of concerns and an ongoing assurance process.

Very interesting podcast on Beyond Gender with Stella O’Malley and Roisin Michaeux which includes some comments about the late male transition. How it starts with gateway trans porn and then progresses through dressing indoors to going out, the coming out at work, then getting boobs etc resulting in huge damage to their family and career usually. At which point many of them get to the “end” of their transition where theres no more “magic of new beginnings” and they realise theyve put a bomb under their life and are no longer functioning members of society - now “just a man with tits”. And the regret stage is all a bit sad. Society has seen a lot of the transition stages but soon we will be seeing a lot more of the regret. Which is going to be way worse than a bad tattoo. I wonder if they’ll run TV Shows in the same vein as Tattoo Fixers? [shudder]
