Previous thread.

Welcome to The Bluestocking, the best (perhaps only) online women's pub. Nothing in the food or drink can harm you, everything is served by a very enthusiastic crew of gerbils, and any curious menfolk are welcome at the Staunch Ally down the road.

Oh, I'm first! Sorry to be so early, but I'll make myself a hot chocolate and then I'll curl up in the Nook and sleep there tonight, I think. As long as I won't be in the gerbils' way!

ps Thanks for the new thread, Magpie! 💜

Hedgehogforshort · Yesterday 21:06

EmpressaurusKitty · Yesterday 21:08

I hate to say it, Hedgy, but I'm fairly sure it's Monday.

I was so busy reading the lawfare shit I forgot what day it was.

Boiledbeetle · Yesterday 21:34

Thanks for the lift Glenda. If you can just put the Tunnock's anywhere that's not in @Hedgehogforshort line of sight that would be great.

Oh.

Too late.

DauntlessDamson · Yesterday 21:58

Evening all and thanks for the new thread Magpie.

The camels may be a little late. They said they were detouring via Durham, to take some supplies to Gosie🙁

MyrtleLion · Yesterday 22:11

I’m here and I’m taking the presidential suite on the top floor in the hope I can sleep tonight.

I am in it already but i can let you have the other queen sized bed as long as you snore less louder than me.

EdithStourton · Yesterday 22:17

Thank you, Myrtle.
I had one of those Sunday/Monday moments earlier today. I knew it was Monday - I even knuckled down to work this afternoon. and was aware that I'd gone to church yesterday, but my brain hadn't caught up at all and about 3.55, with B&B still to be walked, the laundry brought in, some more laundry hung out, the garden to be watered, a shower to be had, dinner to be eaten and some minutes to be read, I realised that I had to be out at 6.35 for a committee meeting.

And I knew I had to leave early for the committee meeting, as we are currently beset by road closures, plural, between here and Town, and have to wiggle through some lanes. Which, in combine season, can be mighty slow. As I went to the car, a tractor trundled by towing a low-loader with a header, followed by the combine. Fortunately, they were going the other way.

Dreadnork safely docked, Android’s lab is stowed in the hold.

For those of you who were so kind and concerned, Mr Hussy’s lovely Ma is still with us and roused herself sufficiently to call him at around 3am to say that she thought that she may have left the iron on. She has been in the nursing home for months. But he replied appropriately and said’ ‘ Yes mum, I’ll go and check now’
Laugh, cry, either seems ok.

Can you get your quills out of my face.

How did we all end up in the same presidential suite? We have 15 of them.

Who is on room booking duty?

<Turns huffily over clutching the bedding>

I’ve been reading the thread with the BBC news in the background. I always have subtitles on, and occasionally they get slightly ahead.

They’ve just done a bit about Bill Oddie, who has died, and showed him looking at a bird mentioned on the last thread.
His voice over said, “oh, and by the way, in Somerset they call them urns, not herons”.

It’s only watching it back to take a screenshot that I realise he was just saying “herons” in a Somerset accent.

Listen

AsWithGlad · Yesterday 23:07

Also from the Bill Oddie section, I wonder if the entertainment gerbils would like to perform in dungarees like The Goodies singing “Funky Gibbon”? (Screenshot incoming)

I think the sleep gerbils must still be at the old thread, I haven't seen any sign of them.

And I've just realised that the loud sawing noise coming from the presidential suite is snoring! Half of the Bluestocking must be up there.😬

EmpressaurusKitty · Today 05:23

It’s ok Damson. I found them when I went back to lock up, they’ve come back here with me.

AngleofRepose · Today 05:51

(whispers)
It's very quiet over there at the Old Place. I slept well (comfy sofa bed in the Nook), but woke far too early, so wandered. The Magic Stream has gone, but I think it has reappeared (magically) just aways over there through the trees, so I might go for a morning dip.

Remind me not to go to bed at 8.30 again. Ridiculous at my age.

<grabs towel, steps over several gerbils on sleeping bags and the remains of a game of Monopoly, tiptoes out door, tries not to slam it, oops squeaky hinges, must get the maintenance crew onto that, closes door, click>

DeanElderberry · Today 07:55

oooh, a moonlight flit. The old threads reference to the ban on flambéing in the holiday cottage reminded me of an excavation years ago where the shared accommodation was the holiday cottage/childhood home of a Professor. The excavation director had been taking some cookery instructions from his Sensible Older Woman (also serious scholar and good person) sidekick.

One day the Professor came down to see how his subordinates were getting on in the wild, and was invited to dinner. SOD (not the best initials, but hey) organised everyone and cooked the main course, but e d decided to show off over dessert and cook his party piece, flambéed bananas. And to use some extra whiskey (it was the Irish recipe). Flames to the ceiling, who knew professors could move that fast? NO women and children first stuff, he was out of there, no doubt wondering could a lecturer's contract be terminated.

SOD, having early catering training, intervened calmly with a pan lid and we and the bananas survived.

And the really sad thing is that now, Professor, excavation director and SOD are all dead, the latter two before their time.

hey ho

Anyway, thanks to specsavers I can now see the screen in front of me and am realising recent intermittent balance issues were probably also linked to incorrectly angled varifocals. Who knew?

HAGADAPA

oh, and @MyrtleLion, soddit.
