Just after I posted the recipe for spiced nuts. Although some of the flavour 'experiments' have been a little alarming avant garde.

I'd swerve the licorice and peppermint, it's a little alarming.

Edited

Peppermint and licorice is the flavour of Smooth Move senna tea for constipation. Don't ask me how I know. The best that can be said for it is that it isn't actively nasty.

Rather you than me, Chickadee!

Licorice is already the flavour of Satan. Add toothpaste and I just don't want to know.

I like liquorice, as I (used to and still) spell it. As a child I used to chew liquorice root, which is probably quite healthy as sweet things go.

Liquorice sweets now usually have wheat in them so I must avoid.

Liquorice and something used to be one of my favourite M&S teas, but there was a warning on the box telling people with high blood pressure not to drink much of it. Here’s an article on the British Heart Foundation website about it.

I've just seen how close we are to a move. I'm going out soon. Do I need to hang around so I don't miss it? Or have I missed it already?!

ChristmasStars · 10/08/2026 14:15

I would love to be sharp enough to think of a title for the new one then I would have a go at starting it. But as usual my mind is a blank, apart from the apple cake I just made to take out with me.

Stained glass.

I’ve put the photo behind a “sensitive” warning because it’s of the Cambridge professor who has recently resigned, but my post isn’t about him.

The stained glass window on the left of the photo seems to bend. I think it may be because there’s too much glass and leading for the window opening rather than the glass itself not being flat, which would be confirmed by the apparent gap between the edge of the window and the frame, just above Prof Arday’s head.

Your thoughts?

Sad Times.

The site with the beautiful quilted dragon bags looks a bit too-good-to-be-true to me.

I ran it through a scam detection website (which may itself be a scam) which seems to confirm that. The website is less than a month old although some of the reviews on the site are from 2025.

There's certainly something strange going on with that window. I think I'd need to see it in person to diagnose the fault though.

Gosie, Glass and the Gerbils’ Dilemma?

AsWithGlad · 10/08/2026 14:42

For the first time ever ever ever I have started a Mumsnet thread.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womensrights/5564959-the-bluestocking-womens-pub-in-which-we-wait-excitedly-for-the-next-instalment-of-goseis-adventures

As I’m better at things other than words I have pinched/plagiarised @Magpiecomplex introduction. Full credit to her.

Now I must ask MN to correct ‘goseis’ to ‘Gosie’s.’

Gosie, Glass and the Gerbils’ Dilemma?

I’ve requested it, let’s see how much MNHQ lets me change the title.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Magpiecomplex · 10/08/2026 14:57

Right, that's the seed supply on the way. Stained glass? What stained glass?

Ooh back just in time for the move! I'll carry some of the craft stuff (I think the camels might still be on holiday) and see you over there!

ps. Did anyone find Gubbins' triangle?

I’m delighted to see the goodly supply of seeds, which we hope will stop the gerbils from defecting / being lured away / leaving us show the gerbils how much we value them.

I rewatched the film “Women Talking” last night. It may have temporarily affected my vocabulary. The film is available on iplayer for the next 26 days. Apparently it’s based on a true story from a Mennonite group in Bolivia.
