There is no suggestion that the killer is trans is there?

People aren't suggesting all lefties are hard core, they are suggesting that there are some hard core lefties that are extremists.

Unlike a lot if people who like to infer that being even slightly right of centre makes you a fascist.

Where?

Almost all media (that I have seen) is referring to Heather Herbert as she.
Some have manged to avoid he or she.
Only seen Scottish report as He/His.

Good on them

That's quite an assumption, especially given the subject of this thread. At least I manage not to use rude names about a whole sector of society just because they don't share my politics. Idiots indeed.

You really think I'm going to respect anybody who celebrates murders? You crack on.

Well if you think chanting put zios in the ground, hope she dies painfully handcuffed to her bed and re-enacting/mocking Charlie kirk being shot in the neck is less offensive than a label - I rather you do pass me by. Thanks.

With each of these awful events there’s someone on the left making extreme statements on how glad they are. Or wishing violence.

That's the issue. You're using hyperbole. You know that the vast majority of left leaning people wouldn't dream of celebrating any murder. I am capable of saying the same about most right leaning people. However you're using the label sweepingly. It says a lot.

Do you just ignore the hate speech that comes from some right wing people?

When that's vehemently denied, I am suspicious. Of course there are right wing extremists but when it's blatant extreme left hate, that's calling for Jews to be put in the ground etc, I'm happy for certain posters to ignore me.

Do you not understand the meaning of hard left as opposed to soft left.

What a waste of opportunity too.

Just to clarify, it sounds from this response like you think hard left people might be celebrating as you suggested, but the soft left might be ok? I suspect you're a bit wobbly on what hard and soft left actually mean if that's the case. Being a socialist doesn't turn someone into a hate filled murder supporter you know. I'm sure you wouldn't like anyone to suggest being right wing does either.

Like when the deputy of the Labour Party referred to Tory scum? Because that doesn't leave a lot of space for acknowledging the moderate right does it?

I'm a lefty myself- I used to be a fully sign up card carrying lefty but the labeling of anyone right as fascist along with the total failure to represent women has left me politically homeless.

The the likes of Herbert do the left no favours. Same with some extremists on the right, which then leads to all being labelled far right.

Exactly my point. Plenty of right wing ones too.

Why do you think this whataboutery is at all relevant to left wing people doing it?

anyolddinosaur · Yesterday 19:55

left/right arguing is not exactly in the spirit of the thread is it, as well as being more boring than watching paint dry.

Police say they are making further inquiries into social media comments by an Aberdeen University employee about the death of former MP Ann Widdecombe.

#sad times

I saw this earlier. I did wonder if the timeline might make his remarks seem suspicious to the police
He talked in terms of her being attacked before the announcement of her murder was made when it was still being assumed by most that she had died naturally

Fwiw I doubt he's involved but it definitely doesn't look very good.

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 21:12

If you remember similar stuff happened online when Charlie Kirk was murdered.

Ereshkigalangcleg · Yesterday 21:13

I don’t imagine he was involved though. But I can see why the police might want to take it more seriously after first dismissing it.

Crimewatch UK reported on the story on FB (came up on my timeline). They too reported she. However, one of the first comments was ‘I think you mean he’ which currently has 7.5k likes. No idea the people who follow Crimewatch but they certainly don’t seem impressed by the pronouns.

Yes, that occurred to me too - perhaps we’ll find out soon exactly which political cause the police are linking the attack with.

LuckyHazelFox · Yesterday 21:46

I thought it was linked to communism.
