Croeso/Welcome to the Bluestocking Women's Pub, with our lovely gerbil staff, the icy Mojito foot-bath for those of you fed up with the heat, a Quilting/Craft Nook, lots of yummy food and drink with zero calories, gluten, or allergens, the Gerbil World Cup, and a brand new magic pool that becomes a babbling brook whenever you want it to!

Come on in! All women welcome! (Men welcome at The Staunch Ally pub down the road aways)

(security provided by the capybaras, lovely folk, but try not to get in their way)

(oh, and don't mention triangles, please. Gubbins gets very overexcited)

(did we mention the Gerbil World Cup?)

The trans are very upset on Reddit. We can call them just trans, even it’s an adjective because the GLP have done it.

I am probably a monster.

Magpiecomplex · 13/07/2026 21:59

Good evening. My name is Magpiecomplex, and I'm definitely a monster.

The Hanseatic League surged forward in a formation best described as a trading convoy that has smelled profit
😂😂😂

I know nothing about Play School either - so far, the only team I have any knowledge of is the Hanseatic League! So I'm glad they're still in.

Inky, I'm sorry you're stuck in the house and I hope you are better soon. Grumpiness is entirely understandable in the circs, and you can make use of the Bluey's 'Grumpery Corner' where anybody feeling grumpy can sit and mutter crossly as much as they want, and where gerbils tip-toe very quietly to leave trays of your favourite food and drink at regular intervalsSmileFlowers

Flowers to Kitty for the aching jaw - even if they weren't doing anything at all to your teeth, just keeping your mouth open for that long is painful😬 Hope you get a good night's sleep and wake up better tomorrow,

Sending lots of good vibes to Horti and HunterFlowers

Is it getting a bit cooler for everybody? Especially Chez Fuzzy where the heat was really uncomfortable for you and Mr Puffling. The weather map for the UK is looking better, but the cooler weather seems to be coming down from the NE, so it may take some time to reach everybody.

So to sum up: healing wishes to everybody who needs them, and g'night all🌛

You now have two usernames on one thread. That is not supposed to to happen now. Have you time travelled to 2022? I think you need to let mnhq know.

Morning all. Warmer again here today but it's my last day at work before I take one of those extra long holidays teachers are famous for. You know the ones, where we take our laptops home with us and spend half the time planning the next year because we don't have the opportunity to do that at work. This summer I will be pondering how to make assessments more AI proof.

EmpressaurusKitty · Yesterday 07:19

My ex-wife was a teacher. That kind of holiday feels very familiar, @Magpiecomplex.

Although this was 20 years ago so AI wasn’t a thing yet.

FuzzyPuffling · Yesterday 07:35

DD2 was a teacher for many years, so that kind of holiday is very familiar. However, she is now a trainee vicar and it's even worse. Didn't think that was possible, but it is!

Wow - that would never have occurred to me! What do trainee vicars have to do, @FuzzyPuffling?

DauntlessDamson · Yesterday 08:07

Hope you get through your last day without melting Magpie. At least you'll be able to take your laptop into the garden over the next few weeks.

Two of my relatives are teachers and finish this weekend, but one of them has a pastoral role and can get calls from parents, Social Services or even Police, at all hours including weekends and holidays.

It was 14 degrees in my back garden at 6 this morning. Bliss.😁 It's been windy for a couple of days so having all the doors and windows open has led to the occasional sound of slamming doors, but at least it feels fresher, both outside the house and inside. We have another couple of days of high 20s to look forward to before things gradually cool down. No sign of rain though.

She works 6 days a week, one in college, two "personal study", ie writing 15 essays per year, plus a kind of CPD journal, having meetings with various diocesan people, three days on placement in a church, plus added placements in a different sort of church. This includes helping to run youth groups, prayer sessions and events in the evenings and weekends.
And now she's preaching, sermon writing too!
Three services on a Sunday- 8am, 10.30am and 6.30pm.

She's hoping for a week off in August!

Wow! That's the sort of routine you'd only cope with if you have a true vocation - I hope she's finding it interesting, even if not enjoying it.

She's been working towards this for years, but is now not 100% certain she'll go into FT priesthood. She's watching priests burn out with insufficient Diocesan support, and is deliberately going back to her old school to teach some RE lessons, just to keep her hand in.

RumNotRun · Yesterday 09:53

Are there any ponies in the Bluestocking? I met this one in the New Forest and thought she would fit in nicely.

Horses have been banned from the pubs round here - might be useful if they are toilet trained, and riderless

PastaAllaNorma · Yesterday 10:30

I woke up feeling feisty. Downright sparky, even. I may have had a pop at one of our regular TRA shitheads over my cuppa.

Sadly, watering the garden, pegging out the washing and making scrambled eggs appeared to exhaust my knee function for the day and I'm now limping and swearing, on two crutches. Bastard arthritis.

Still, it's a beautiful day, eldest is home after a week caring for grandparents and I've missed him, and there are goldcrests in willow.

Healing thoughts to Kitty and to Horti for Hunter, happy last day to Magpie.

Oh, I forgot to mention the minimum of 5 residentials per year and the shed loads of reading!

One of our reasons for moving here was to be on hand for child care for their two pre-teens.

FuzzyPuffling · Yesterday 10:45

@Thehorticulturalhussie how is Hunter doing?

@Thehorticulturalhussie how is Hunter doing?

Thank you for asking, emergency trip to the vet first thing because he hadn't eaten for 3 days and the internal bleeding wasn't stopping so he has had an anti nausea injection and I have a paste to force into him to line his gut. I was up with him most of the night again and by the time we got to the practice I was a pathetic, snivelling wreck because I thought he was going to die. The lovely vet said that there are various other meds we can try if necessary. And handed me a box of tissues.
So I am cautiously optimistic now.

Our local has a field shelter next to the car park for the horses. I'm guessing that most of them just walk home without instruction.
