Come on in! All women welcome! (Men welcome at The Staunch Ally pub down the road aways)

(security provided by the capybaras, lovely folk, but try not to get in their way)

(oh, and don't mention triangles, please. Gubbins gets very overexcited)

Morning! Gerbils, can I get some coffee and a cheesy omelette, please? I don't think I can take another bowl of bran flakes! It was positively chilly just before 6am, was not expecting that. Maybe today's heat will be downgraded (one can hope, I need to go out today...eek!)

And...one for my Business Partner Fuzzy... just because...

(ps. we're making loads of dosh, yes, we are, selling... um...selling...psssst. Fuzzy, what are we selling again?)

No idea, I've quite forgotten.
But we could go into the "long length PJ" business...I think there's a market for it.

Or fans for hot weather.

If you are going to make it rain Dean then so am I. I've washed all my cushion covers this morning and hung them out, plus the seat cushions from my sofa. I have an old, but still functional washing machine, which I put in the garage when I had my kitchen and utility re-designed. I use it for heavier items, which means I can do two loads at once. I'm so glad I kept it. The only limitation is line space for drying.

I was up in the Lake District yesterday for a relative's significant birthday. They were staying in a cottage but I had other things happening on Saturday so I just went up for the day with a couple of others. We had a lovely walk along Coniston Water then out to a local restaurant for dinner. It was slightly cooler than at home, with a lovely breeze but it was a long day, with an early start and late finish.

A flat white coffee and a toasted teacake please gerbils, then I'm going to shampoo my bedroom carpet and a couple of rugs and leave them to dry while I'm out this afternoon.

PastaAllaNorma · 13/07/2026 10:03

Where are the towels? Should we have brought our own?

I feel much refreshed from that quick swim but I don't want to drip water all over the pub.

Gerbils, could I possibly have a coffee brought to me outside? I'll soon dry in the sun.

No need for towels, all women here, and Ganymede is on mop duty.

(Co Pilot is having a fit of the vapours today and wouldn't allow a naked beetle. I asked it to remove the pixelated bit and got "I can’t remove the pixelation — that would make the image sexually suggestive, which isn’t allowed." !)

Good morning - bore da and diolch to Angle for the new thread - the title is from The Big Rock Candy Mountain, isn't it? I thought at first it was from The Good Ship Lollipop, Shirley Temple is on my mind because whenever I read 'Samantha Tempest', of DEFRA tribunal fame, I think 'Shirley Temple'😏

You've done great with the new thread and the move! The business of @-ing people is new to me, I only recently found out how to do it and what it does!
We only used to @ regulars who had been absent for a long time, and as you found out, trying to remember everyone is giving hostages to fortune, you're bound to forget someone.

I never have any difficulty finding the New Bluey, I have a link direct to this board on my laptop, so the list of all the threads pops up immediately and hey presto, there's the latest Bluey., and there's the old one with 1000 posts completed.

I know it's not that easy if you're on a phone, so I guess that's why some Stockingers get lost on the way to the new venue. Or don't even know we've moved.

You done good Angle, you done goodSmile

Sending Flowers to Horti's doggie for a full recovery, 🌱[that's catnip] to Kitty's kitty having her nails done - maybe she could post pikkies of the nail varnish later, that seems to be a popular topic here at the Bluey💅😁
And Kitty, I hope the dentist sorts everything out today with a minimum of fuss.

Morning everyone
Thank you for your kind wishes for my poor boy. I have spent a long and uncomfortable night in the kitchen with him as the door has to remain open (I'm not going to elaborate but there are 2 rugs in the bin) and he's still miserable but is at least drinking water now and has accepted a small piece of liver and some slivers of peach so I hope that he has turned a corner. If any of you are prescribed metacam for your dog I beg you to keep a very close eye on them. It took about 10 days for Hunter to develop a very adverse reaction, so it appears to be cumulative rather than immediate.
Bar gerbils could I please have a quintuple espresso and a pain au chocolate. Thank you.

Oh, poor Hunter. All that on top of his original aches and pains. Poor you too @Thehorticulturalhussie

I hope you're both feeling better soon.

I was watching the first ever women's Test Match at Lord's yesterday - sadly, it didn't live up to the event, very one-sided with India dominant.

There was an 'awwwww' moment which shows that cricket is still.. well, cricket
Laura Knight is retiring after this match, and when she was bowled out, all the Indian fielders ran to the boundary and formed a guard of honour to applaud her as she left the pitch.

The tone was already set when Yastika Bhatia made history by becoming the first woman to score a Test century at Lord's- the English players applauded her and shook her hand.

Call me soppy, but it was lovely to see these gestures from such fierce competitorsSmile

And a crumb of comfort for England fans: Sophie Ecclestone took five wickets, so she too makes history as the first woman to do that in a Test match at Lord's.

Do the gerbils play cricket? Might they organise a Test Match at some point?
I'd love to see their rule book - I'm already interested in what they make of the offside rule in soccer, but... LBW??

I can already see Boily objecting because even if she's using two legs to hold the bat, that's still four legs to get in the way of the ball, not two - it's just not fair!😃

PastaAllaNorma · 13/07/2026 10:58

I think Copilot needs to learn a bit about beetle anatomy.

Thehorticulturalhussie · 13/07/2026 11:13

Thank you @DauntlessDamson

Chersfrozenface · 13/07/2026 11:16

Bore da! There's quite a breeze today and I've had to put extra pegs on the washing on the line or it'll be down at number 12 before you know it.

Also the clouds and breeze mean I can iron the last lot of laundry without melting into a puddle in the floor.

Hoping humans, canines and felines are all much better soon.

Bar gerbils, a strong latte, please. I fell asleep on the sofa last night and, of course, once I woke up and went to bed, couldn't get back to sleep again.

I have enough legs to actually be the wicket.

I make my own. I drafted a very simple trouser pattern (elastic waist, pockets) that suffices for pj's, summer wear or lounging about, depending on which fabric I use.

So impressed. When there was a call to make scrubs I decided I could do that. It took me 3 full days and lots of swearing to make one set and I gave up after that. Maybe I could try the trousers again just for me.

Please don't be impressed. I'm self taught, my mother hated sewing and my school focused on science. I just make it up as I go along...as long as it is simple!

ChristmasStars · 13/07/2026 13:23

Self taught is amazing @FuzzyPuffling my gran was a dressmaker and tried her best to teach me but I was a poor pupil! I regret not taking it seriously now.

Chickadeeinme · 13/07/2026 13:25

Sadly, especially as a Yorkshirewoman, cricket bores me silly. Baseball, on the other hand, is a lot of fun to watch, though I don’t follow it. Soccer is far more interesting than American football though, which falls into “watching paint dry” territory.

LBW= Legs Become Wickets😂

I can imagine a very New Age-ish cricket coach using that as a training mantra to batters
🙏BE THE WICKET🙏😄

Chickadeeinme, yesterday I was channel-hopping up the weird end of cable TV where there are a couple of free sports channels, and you'll never guess what was on: MAJOR LEAGUE CRICKET from the USA!!!
MLC

You thought you had saved yourself from the boredom of cricket by putting an ocean between you and Yorkshire, but no......😦

Do you have a principled objection to wearing men's PJs? They're pretty long.

I. an habitual PH wearer, am currently happy that I found a sleeveless nightdress yesterday in my wandering round the house. Must have a look and see are there any more of them, it's very cool and airy. I have put 2 pillows and a duvet in the washing machine. If anything can cause rain, pegging them out will do it.

HAGADAPA

That's an idea.
(I assorted men's items - including a pair of boots!)

The scrubs I wear as PJs - highly recommend, cotton to absorb sweat and washable at any temperature - are very basic. Square top with short sleeves and a V in the front. Square trousers with elastic. No fitting, just straight up and down.

The gerbils have confused the Gerbil World Cup with test cricket.

They are spectacularly good at it, (obviously), but can’t seem to find any chaos or excitement, so it might not be for them…

Gerbil World Cup HQ: Magic Roundabout vs. Atlantis
Quarter Final I

Nobody quite knew how to prepare for this one, which suited both sides fine, since neither of them prepared for anything in the conventional sense.

Atlantis arrived unhurried, ancient, moving with the settled patience of a civilisation that had, after all, already come back from 2-0 down once this tournament and saw no reason to rush the warm-up. Dougal arrived complaining about the state of the grass before she’d even reached the centre circle. Brian arrived at her own pace, which was to say barely arrived at all before kickoff. Ermintrude took up a position on the wing and stayed there, majestically, regardless of where play actually was. Zebedee didn’t walk out so much as spring into existence somewhere near the touchline, already bouncing.

Minute 6: Atlantis strolled it about, patient, probing, sideways and back, sideways and back, the exact rhythm that had worn down the Flowerpot Men two rounds earlier.

Minute 14: Dougal, still complaining, mistimed a challenge so badly she ended up facing her own goal, and somehow turned the resulting confusion into a genuinely useful interception, purely by accident, which she complained about too.

Minute 22: GOAL, Atlantis. The one-touch move, unhurried and inevitable, split the Magic Roundabout wide open exactly the way it had against the Flowerpot Men. 1-0. The Atlantean captain didn’t celebrate. She simply glanced at the crowd the way something ancient looks at weather.

Minute 35: Zebedee, for no reason anyone could identify, boinged directly over an Atlantis defender mid-tackle, landed with the ball still at her feet, and squared it to Brian, who had, by pure chance, wandered into exactly the right spot. 1-1. Brian looked as surprised as anyone.

Minute 48: Ermintrude, still on the wing, still majestic, finally received the ball for the first time all match and delivered a cross of such devastating accuracy that nobody, least of all Ermintrude, seemed to expect it. Dougal met it with her head, still complaining mid-jump, and buried it. 2-1, Magic Roundabout.

Minute 60: Atlantis, patient as ever, worked their way back through their long, unhurried sequences — and equalised through the same one-touch inevitability, 2-2, the Atlantean captain allowing herself, this time, the ghost of a smile.

Minute 71: Zebedee, given space, boinged three times in quick succession across the edge of the box, wrong-footing two defenders who had never seen anything move quite like that, and slotted home from an angle that shouldn’t have worked. 3-2, Magic Roundabout. Dougal complained that the goal “should have been hers,” while celebrating it enthusiastically regardless.

Minute 84: Atlantis pressed for a third equaliser, patient sequence after patient sequence, and finally broke through with a header that beat the keeper all ends up — only for Brian, standing on the line for reasons nobody had assigned her, to head it clear at the very last possible moment, purely by being in the way.

90+3: Dougal, complaining that extra time would be “an insult to everyone’s evening,” won the ball in midfield, drove forward alone, and scored a fourth simply to end the conversation. 4-2, Magic Roundabout.

Atlantis took the defeat with the same ancient composure they took everything, shaking every paw individually, unhurried even in departure. Dougal complained about the pitch one final time on the way off, which everyone now understood to be her version of a victory speech.

Greta’s line appeared under the glass before the floodlights dimmed:
Atlantis — out, eventually, again. The Magic Roundabout — through, chaotically, as ever. Some empires wake up too late.
