A report on 'anti gender actors' from Amnesty appears to be a puzzling work of jumbled nonsense and overwrought fiction.

Either they completely fail to grasp what 'gender critical' means, or they are deliberately trying desperately to bundle it in with Xtian rightwing US organisations. Maybe both.

Trans activists have been accusing UK feminists of being rightwing Xtian US fundamentalist funded for years. Sometimes it's funny, more often it's just fucking tedious.

Anyway.

'An organised anti-rights movement targeting the rights of women and LGBT+ people is growing in the UK. Over 60% of the organisations mapped have emerged since 2017, the vast majority gender critical organisations'

What the everloving fuck do they think they mean, here?

Feminists 'target' the rights of women? In terms of - feminists have fought long and hard for the rights of women? Yes, well done, Amnesty.

Then they whang on a lot about abortion and well funded US rightwing organisations, including religious groups, etc.

And then ...

'In fact, gender critical organisations only account for 2.5% of total expenditure but have been remarkably successful in realising their agenda through strategic litigation and campaigning.'

Will you ever actually use your brains, Amnesty?

The list at the end should give them a wee clue. Dozens of feminist organisations, almost all listed as 'informal', yet lumped in bizarrely with massive US anti abortion groups.

Thanks for this @WrongKindOfFeminist . Catherine Liu is a tonic. Identity politics is the Achilles Heel of the left. I'm afraid I was an early adopter , mea culpa. Back then we called it Personal Politics of course. Catherine Liu has a knack of simplifying these issues which is very refreshing.

Kenan Malik wrote a great article entitled How Culture Wars Always Benefit the Right iirc. It was in the Guardian - gasp! He covered a lot of the same territory. Like Liu , Malik is on the left , used to be in the Revolutionary Communist Party.

I wonder if their ‘reach out’ included a sorry?

The term ‘reached out’ speaks for itself.

Why would sex matters want to meet them privately?? It just gives amnesty the opportunity to make shit up about what sex matters have said.

Edited to add that the bit which really got me was the asserting of the gender critical position as the exact opposite of what it actually is.

They don't even understand what women and gay people are talking about.

I actually don't think they grasp how much leeway women have given them. Despite them making a harmful and defamatory report, and horrible accusations, despite them effectively painting targets on a list of women in a febrile climate. They've been given generous opportunities to remedy the situation, because the women listed are actually decent people.

But. They are unable to see clearly because they are locked into a stupid, simplistic, tribalist narrative that tells them they are the Goodies and whoever they decide are the Baddies are on the WSOH.

Seduced by progressive fairytales they cannot grasp that they have done anything wrong. Self justification fallacy is a dangerous thing.

They are just incapable of asking themselves the key question.

Bet they wouldn't even have got in any good biscuits for the meeting.

They're giving the impression that Sex Matters should be grateful for crumbs.

I imagine neither side is going to meet without legal advice and representation present. I hope not. It becomes much easier to clarify exactly what is being said once there’s a
legal adviser in the room.

That response from AI CEO is outrageous, patronising, insulting and implies that she's far, far too busy to admit to the damage caused. Heaven forbid she should, y'know, apologise.

Also suggests that the claim that they have “reached out” but haven’t heard back is slightly misleading, implying as it does a solid offer to negotiate - “when I have finished my summer hols” seems to have been missed out from their statement.

It sounds like a lie, if SM sent the first email requesting the meeting.

Well they're used to lying, and used to being narrowminded idiots too, based on the evidence.

I very much hope there are real consequences for encouraging direct discrimination against women, gay people and religious organisations in the way Amnesty has done. They really have become the type of organisation staffed by the type of people they were set up to challenge and hold to account.

I think, if my maths was right, one of the letters (MBM?) gave a deadline that expired on the 26th.

Are Amnesty going to meet with all the other organisations they've defamed? Perhaps that's why they can't fit SM in for a few months (not really).

But let's not forget the other organisations: the press naturally focus on the big ones but there are others affected.
