New thread.

No pushing at the back, please, we have plenty of scones and kilts for everyone.

I have a Craft Project. With a Deadline. I have worked out that I will need to put in an 8 hour shift every day for the next 3 weeks.

I may pop in from time to time for a swift half. Literally.

AngleofRepose · 28/06/2026 18:04

Ooh, I'll have a lemonade, too, please, lots of lemon! It's definitely not hot here, finally, but it's been a very nice, sunny day. Hordes (hordes?) of starlings at the birdbath, not letting the poor robin have a bath. Nice westerly breeze, whispy clouds, and quiet! No BBQs or paddling pools complete with screaming on a regular basis. Nice.

Had a strange, brief conversation with a bot (I think) and have been entirely too mumsy. Better put some whiskey in that lemonade, thanks.

Yikes. That's commitment! Or madness. Good luck!

I can occasionally be quite stubborn. At times that's a good thing, sometimes not.

EmpressaurusKitty · 28/06/2026 18:36

What’s the project, @Chersfrozenface?
Lemonade on the way, @AngleofRepose.

AngleofRepose · 28/06/2026 18:39

I guess technically it's a murmuration of starlings, except they weren't flying, just squabbling and bathing. So I'll stick with "horde".

Reenactment clothing for Foreign Climes - climes which are likely to be bogging hot, so lightweight fabrics. The deadline is the day they have to be packed for the journey.

My DD kayaks, and sensibly wears glasses not contacts. However she decided white water wasn’t for her after finding out that titanium frames break less easily than noses.

I have to say, Errol, that the idea of breaking either my specs or my nose is quite enough to put me off ever even trying to white-water kayak in anything other than contacts.

My sympathies to your DD.

Wow! That sounds fascinating, tell us more? What’s being reenacted?

EdithStourton · 28/06/2026 19:26

That sounds interesting, Cher - good luck with the cutting/sewing/recreating!

Chickadeeinme · 28/06/2026 19:33

I love reading your nature notes @EdithStourton - they appeal a lot to the poet in me.

We do 17th century reenactment and our group sometimes gets invited to 80 Years War and 30 Years War events, also other 17th reenactments in Europe. This time we're going to Germany - we personally have had to pass on the Netherlands, Belgian Flanders and northern Italy this year. Oh for a lottery win!

MarieDeGournay · 28/06/2026 23:33

Cher, that sounds fantastic, really interesting, good luck with it!

I'm going to be kept away from the Bluey a bit by that long-awaited work on my house - weather permitting it's starting tomorrow 🙂at 8am🙁

I'm usually up and about well before 8, but NOT showered, dressed, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and ready to have my house overrun by people - men, to be precise - making lots of noise and dust and having to be interacted with😦
I usually gradually build up to interacting with other humans around lunchtime!

The Sleep and Dream Gerbils are flying again, and they've promised to come to me first so I can get a good night's sleep before tomorrow.
But don't worry, they'll get around to everybodySmile

G'night all🌛

Good luck @MarieDeGournay !

EdithStourton · 29/06/2026 07:22

Good luck with the works, Marie.

It's so lovely when it's done and you shut the door behind the last builder/ chippy/ sparky/ plumber/ tiler/ roofer/ etc.

EmpressaurusKitty · 29/06/2026 07:28

It’s so much fresher this morning!

Chersfrozenface · 29/06/2026 07:34

Good luck @MarieDeGournay. There really ought to be some easily available therapy for not-morning-people to enable them to deal with mornings.

God knows I could have done with some over the decades of commuting and work and kids and school runs (walks, actually) and did I mention commuting and work?

Right, shower, shopping, sewing.

AngleofRepose · 29/06/2026 08:03

Bore da everyone! Lovely day so far!
@Chersfrozenface and @MarieDeGournay
good luck with the work (both of you) 😀

I can't get up. I have a cat sitting on me.

DeanElderberry · 29/06/2026 08:09

Good luck Marie. I need to get jobs done and am dreading all the disruption.

Have you tried gentle shoving, cajoling, extra love, tough love, blackmail, abject submission...? Of course you have. There's only one thing left: T.R.E.A.T.S.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/06/2026 08:34

My morning therapy is two big mugs of tea and then later a coffee.

That sounds so interesting! I hope all goes well with the crafting. There are not as many shortcuts you can take to try to rush re-enactment gear.

But if Fuzzy has to get up in order to get the treats, there’s a problem.

Having a cat sitting on you should rank high in the list of reasons not to be able to go to work.

I can't get up. I have a cat sitting on me.

Then you can't get up. You have been Chosen.

Our cat - affectionately known as CatBastard - sits on the arm of my chair and glares at me every time I knit a stitch, because it makes my arm move. Then when I am eating, he tries to climb onto the plate - he hasn't managed to nick anything yet, but not for want of trying.
