This is from their Facebook page today. No consideration for the women who do not want men in their spaces.

That is Greta T levels of performativeness.

Llamasarellovely · 26/05/2026 22:28

Performativity?

DialSquare · 26/05/2026 22:30

Condescending wankers.

murasaki · 26/05/2026 22:32

Why can't their 'oh so helpful' volunteers accompany the TiMs to the men's loos to keep them safe?

Heggettypeg · 26/05/2026 22:33

If they've got church volunteers willing to be toilet chaperones, why don't they get the men to accompany anxious transwomen to the gents'? That would be kind, inclusive, and actually in line with the law.

It really is the obvious solution!

titchy · 26/05/2026 22:40

I assume they have the equivalent sign on the men’s loos?

Very good point

So bone-headed, it sounds more like some TV comedy sketch.

But perhaps nowadays, not so much.

Justme56 · 26/05/2026 22:47

The Rev Canon attended last years trans rights rally in Sunderland where she spoke about her trans son.

It's so often that, isn't it.

I would say her logic had left the building, but then she is a reverend, so that was always a nebulous concept to her. And now she has a nebulous dog whistle too.

RNApolymerase · 26/05/2026 22:52

I wonder if the church volunteers thought that this was what they'd be doing, when they signed up.

LoftyCoralBird · 26/05/2026 22:54

So if you’re a woman who has suffered abuse at the hands of a man (as many woman have) and feel unsafe in secluded mix sex spaces, you're firstly expected to locate a staff member, then indirectly or directly admit you feel uncomfortable in mixed sex loos, then ask if there is availability to escort you into the loo area where you might be dealing with urgent IBS or heavy period bleeding in the cubical…

Instead why not label the men’s toilets ‘unisex’ and allow the women a female only space.

GreyskySexRealistsky · 26/05/2026 22:59

Are there any comments about this on their Facebook page @labtest57 ?

testmatchspecial · 26/05/2026 23:00

I’m a bit disappointed the toilet supervision doesn’t come with a re-education session delivered through the toilet door whilst you do your business.

Agree. Isn't this the point where it should be recognised that men and women are not simply equivalent (not that thy are, of course, but that's the theory), but that women have requirements for privacy that simply aren't required by men. And yet our elected government continues to move in the other direction.

Yes. Majority in favour of it unfortunately.

Hmm, how many of them actually come from the area....

Supporterofwomensrights · 26/05/2026 23:05

And what sort of reception would any dissenters get?

Supporterofwomensrights · 26/05/2026 23:06

I noted 'sisters and brothers' in that order. When 'sisters' are men, they come first. Long live the patriarchy.

I'd assume most of them. Can't imagine people outside of Sunderland would even know it the Minster's existence.

FFS

GreyskySexRealistsky · 26/05/2026 23:10

It doesn't make sense though. They acknowledge that some women may feel "uncomfortable". But they can't take the next logical step as to why some women may feel uncomfortable?

Grammarnut · 26/05/2026 23:15

I hope someone sues them because only men are welcome to use those toilets.
