The Bluestocking Pub: Infinite Cocktails, Questionable Logistics

Welcome to the nth iteration of the Bluestocking women’s pub, where gerbils are staff, the drinks are free, and alcohol has no effect except to get you to the sweet spot just before the drink you really shouldn’t have had.

Men can go to the Staunch Ally next door.

It’s OK if you don’t understand. Just assume everything is normal.

I'm not entirely sure where I am at the moment. I think I'm on The Dreadnork, but I could be out flying somewhere.

What can you see, Magpie?

Magpiecomplex · 26/05/2026 20:34

Swashbuckled · 26/05/2026 20:33

Penguins.

(Penguins of Madagascar on the TV 😂)

I’m glad you clarified.
I was concerned you had gone considerably off course.

There's a distinct absence of hot chocolate bowsers in my vicinity, so I think I'm probably on board the galleon.

AsWithGlad · 26/05/2026 20:39

I’ve been with same dental practice for at least 45 years (I remember getting a free root canal when 44 year old DS was tiny) and when they went private we stayed and got the insurance they suggested.

The insurance doesn’t cover implants, though.

FuzzyPuffling · 26/05/2026 20:40

I have no idea where i am. Or if you're still looking for me. But that's ok!

AsWithGlad · 26/05/2026 20:41

The Shadows are on my TV, but I’m watching a recording - more accurately, listening to it while I MN.

Edit: Bruce Welch is singing, “Please don’t tease,” and sounding exactly like Cliff Richard.

AsWithGlad · 26/05/2026 20:42

It’s a rare day when I wouldn’t be glad of the hot chocolate bowser, but today is one of them.

Swashbuckled · 26/05/2026 20:43

Thank goodness @Magpiecomplex

I’m wondering if we will keep sailing through the night and if we need to schedule sleeping shifts. I quite fancy sailing through the night but would like the cloud to clear so there’s stars and a bright moon.

And, not to press a point, but if Errol does set fire to the sails ahead that would give us a lantern to guide our way.

On a side note, is Hedgey still around in real life (by which I mean in the Blue Stocking)?

I realise I’ve been away for a bit but I haven’t seen her on this thread.

Edited

She's having a canal boat holiday, I think for 3 weeks.

I have been wondering where you were, Fuzzy, and whether we were still looking for you.

I was hoping you had made it to the galleon, but wasn’t sure if you were sea sick.

Magpiecomplex · 26/05/2026 20:46

It's bound to clear soon, @Swashbuckled, and then we can sail through the night.

@ErrolTheDragon, are you feeling incendiary?

At a time like this?
How very dare she.

MarieDeGournay · 26/05/2026 20:51

That's a lovely story about your dentist AsWith - and that's not something that often gets said!

Hedgey said she was going on a canal boat holiday, but who knows - maybe she's actually on the only ocean-going narrowboat in the world, heading west.....Smile

Swashbuckled · 26/05/2026 20:53

@MyrtleLion

Where is Fuzzy right now? I fear she’s in Puffin Limbo.

Maybe she’s one of the Viking women in the longboat. Narrow boat, long boat, who was really listening that carefully….

EmpressaurusKitty · 26/05/2026 21:28

Hedgey taught Gosie about how the canals worked, though I’m not sure Gosie enjoyed it much.

JanesLittleGirl · 26/05/2026 21:32

It's at times like this this that I'm glad to have read the Jack Aubrey novels. Steer West to get the fastest speed over the ground and then, at the latest possible moment, turn to North, filling your sails and giving you the opportunity to place yourself to windward. The enemy will be unable to sheer away and will be completely overwhelmed by a team of crack gerbils holding cutlasses in their teeth.

But other things may happen and it isn't my story. Sorry.

It feels to me like a shared story.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 26/05/2026 21:38

I love being at sea.

'And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by'

Actually, we may not need to steer by the stars. Batshit seems to have discovered her pointer skills and is standing stock still at the prow, with nose twitching and staring straight ahead, her eyes on something I can't see.

On the other hand she may have spotted an albatross.......

ChristmasStars · 26/05/2026 21:56

I love that poem @AuntieMsDamsonCrumble there's a beautiful YouTube of it being read by Rory McCann as an advert for some shipping insurance company. It's very soothing.

don't we want to find where they’re going? A light singeing of one of their sails to slow them maybe?

Probably best not remind anyone (and particularly not ChatGPT) that where I come from the world is flat, and obviously there are dragons as that might get confusing.

Boiledbeetle · 26/05/2026 22:15

Evening all.

It's still too hot, even after a very cool shower.

I also can't shake myself of the feeling I've forgotten something.

I’m not sure about the positioning of your hair towel. Is it crushing your antenna on the side away from the camera?
