The Bluestocking Pub: Infinite Cocktails, Questionable Logistics

Welcome to the nth iteration of the Bluestocking women’s pub, where gerbils are staff, the drinks are free, and alcohol has no effect except to get you to the sweet spot just before the drink you really shouldn’t have had.

Men can go to the Staunch Ally next door.

It’s OK if you don’t understand. Just assume everything is normal.

I'm quite happy to be wherever the plot needs someone to be, Myrtle.

I'm still on a high from my adventures on Drake Island and then spending the day frolicking in the rigging with Batshit!

I'm thinking of changing my name on the next thread to DauntlessDamson 😁

I love that name!

I nearly wrote 'who would sing it with great gusto', that is, with Great Gusto, the most enthusiastic of the gerbils, she is totally committed and gives 100% to everything thing she does😃

MyrtleLion · 25/05/2026 22:17

MarieDeGournay · 25/05/2026 22:05

I like both. And either will sound good in an interminable ballad about
'..when we said on the Wrathful Blue'
or
'..when we sailed on the Wrath of Blues'

The former might be easier to rhyme with, but that's academic, I've no intention of writing the interminable ballad - but I know who would sing it 😄

Edited

ChatGPT says the name:

The Wrathful Blue

is the better ship name.

But:

“when we sailed on the Wrath of Blues

is the better ballad phrase.

Which is completely believable because songs routinely mutate ship names into more singable forms over time.

So.the gerbils can sing of the wrath of blues quite happily.

With my Viking ancestry, might a longboat come in handy, @MyrtleLion ?

I'm gonna make a guess that the 'Breasted Boobilly' is not in the short-list.

MarieDeGournay · 25/05/2026 22:29

I'm sure AI would write us an interminable ballad if we asked it, but that would be no fun.
I had a group of pals who, in Days of Yore when we were young and had more agile brains and, apparently, time to burn, would sit down and write umpteen verses of a ballad about a ship called the Wrathful Blue. Or a mock scene from Shakespeare about a mislaid scarf. Or a story in the style of Gertrude Stein about a shopping trip. Or a mock legend in the style of the Ulster Cycle about missing the bus..
Those were the daysSmile

Happy Lilac Towel Day. Many years ago MN graciously changed their standard bunch of flowers into a sprig of lilac for the day. It’s mildly annoying that on this spherical world, the lilacs are mostly over by now - but they were still out in glorious bloom in Scotland above the Great Glen.

My lilac is looking rather lovely in Fife.

ChatGPT isn’t always right - channel Gilbert and Sullivan…

May I suggest The Dreadnork?

MyrtleLion · 25/05/2026 21:16

The flying helps actually. And @Magpiecomplex thank you for reminding me you're all blinged up and already on board. I have a way of getting @ChristmasStars on board if she wants to come.

Maybe we get Magpie to fly to shore and enter the pub because it's always a few metres away and to be an emissary with news. Then we can weigh anchor and send a party to the pub and others can come aboard...

If you want to do research at the pub and return the box of distractions to Carmela we can do that @AngleofRepose .

Just catching up - definitely want to come if I'm not too late! Will read the rest of the thread now if I don't fall asleep!

Welcome return of 'nork' - wonderful word, always makes me smile, or possibly giggle immaturely😏

G'night all, sleep well, lulled by the sound of gentle waves lapping against the galleon's sides... hang on, is there a technical term for a ship's sides, have I just outed myself as a landlubber?🤔

The Bude Triangle. Well known hotspot for unexplained activities.

You're telling me...we used to live near Bude and it was seriously weird.

Too hot.
I'm using my fancy fan ( from my opera days) and I don't care if I look like a pretentious twallock. So there!

I suppose I should be saying - 'No no, for shame dear Fuzzy, you could never look like a twallock of any kind!
but instead I'm just thinking twallock? TWALLOCK? what a wonderful word! Never heard it before. Will use in future.

But of course we don't think you could ever look like a twallock of any kind dear Fuzzy, because we are your greatest fans😂

It's pronounced more like " twoll ock" Soft "a".
A very useful word indeed!

AngleofRepose · 26/05/2026 10:12

Morning, all! I agree, too hot already. Just been out trying to do some weeding, but had to give up for now. Tiny bit of a breeze, but nothing to write home about. Around these here parts, the heat should peak today, although it won't be much different tomorrow. Just have to grin and bear it.

Twallock's a new one on me! I shall be using that.

The Dreadnork is fab!

Gerbils, iced coffee please, and an iced bun to go with it thanks. I'll be in the Quilting/Craft Nook-I hear it's got magic AC that doesn't harm the environment!
