The Bluestocking Pub: Infinite Cocktails, Questionable Logistics

Welcome to the nth iteration of the Bluestocking women’s pub, where gerbils are staff, the drinks are free, and alcohol has no effect except to get you to the sweet spot just before the drink you really shouldn’t have had.

Men can go to the Staunch Ally next door.

It’s OK if you don’t understand. Just assume everything is normal.

@MyrtleLion If you are still looking for volunteers, I can drive pretty much any vehicle from a moped to a 35 Tonne Tractor and Drag unit plus pallet trucks and fork lifts and I can do running repairs on most of them. I also have an expired RYA Masters Certificate. I'm also fairly good at unhelpful and unnecessary sarcasm. Hmm... Not the greatest CV.

EdithStourton · 23/05/2026 21:30

Righty-o, JanesLittleGirl, you're definitely on the Apocalypse Squad. When we're down to Spam and shotguns, women like you will be exactly who we need.

The gerbil activists have assessed that this is, in fact, an extremely strong Bluestocking CV.

Very good. My RYA certificates are for dinghy sailing, inland waterways and ‘competent crew’. I can tie a variety of knots though bowlines always need revision.

OTOH if we can come in our Bluestocking guises, surely a dragon is always useful in rescue missions?

WearyAuldWumman · 23/05/2026 22:06

If you'd like to try a bit of psychological warfare, I can play Trieste Overture on the piano accordion.

If you want real punishment, I can play it loudly.

Whoa! I kinda saw myself providing well managed logistics but if the job is running around with a huge bangy-bangy shooty-shooty weapon while wearing a 'you can't see me suit' then I will do whatever we need to rescue Gosie.

Ooh, can you drive a tank??
(I'm not saying we need a tank, but, y'know just in case...)

So, can you??
<Gubbins is getting all excited and squeaky>

AngleofRepose · 23/05/2026 22:23

Right! "You-can't-see-me-suits" for everyone (except Gubbins, that would just tip her over the edge)

Well! This might be just the thing we could try! 😁

(oops, now Gubbins wants to bring along her triangle)

Edited

I haven't driven a tank but I have driven one or more tracked vehicles. Not as much fun as driving pallet trucks though. I've been turning those over since I was about 5 years old.

The Parting Glass is one of my favourite songs WAW. I sang it with my old choir at the end of the humanist funeral of one of our members. It was beautiful.

Just slipping in to join you in appreciating the Parting Glass. I think though that my favourite version might be the Pogues.

ChristmasStars · 23/05/2026 22:44

I don't suppose there's any room for someone who can still play Go and Tell Aunt Nancy on the recorder?

MarieDeGournay · 23/05/2026 22:48

This is all very Bluestocking: offering to drive a tank or play the accordion to rescue a possibly kidnapped gerbil, alongside 'How we buried our loved ones'😁

There have been many many gems in the Gosie stories, but I think this is the best yet:
Near the stairs, a badger was arguing passionately for the inclusion of soup.
😂

There is always room for someone who can still play Go and Tell Aunt Nancy on the recorder. The Bluestocking wouldn't be the Bluestocking if there wasn't room.

It's not your recorder playing that's important...

If you can play the recorder without opposable thumbs, you can do anything - like rescue potentially kidnapped gerbils😁

Please excuse my very late arrival - I fell asleep behind the spare hot chocolate bowser and didn’t realise you’d all gone. I blame a surfeit of maltesers.

It's all happening over here @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I hope you can quickly catch up.

Chickadeeinme · 24/05/2026 03:10

I’m off to do a printmaking (as in linocut) class tomorrow. Apart from a similar class a year ago, I haven’t done any linocut since I did Art A level in 1968, but I shall have fun anyway.
