Burnham - does he know what a woman is?

Dragonasaurus · 14/05/2026 20:49

Just that really - we’ve had Starmer prevaricating, fence sitting, “most women don’t have a penis” in fact women don’t have a penis’ but somehow I’m going to let Phillipson sit on the guidance which would ensure women’s single sex spaces (some of them anyway)…..

Would Burnham be any better? Does anyone know what his position is?

It's got to cost more than that, when you look at all the additional temporary staff who need to be hired and the disruption , plus hiring of venues for a couple of days and security for the ballot boxes . I mean weddings can cost £80k and that's for one day for 200 people .
the council election that I know about employed 100 people for two days and 30 canvassers for a couple of weeks. Plus all the printing of ballot papers . Overnight accommodation and expenses for the additional staff needed and overtime for the permanent team who suddenly have to go s 36 hour working day
edited to say even if it is only £280k that's a renovated leisure centre changing room

He might win the seat, but looking at the figures probably not. He would face not only a local area that has just given more votes to Reform than any other party, but also the fact that he would be seen as an imposed candidate on a quest.

He's got to get selected first.

Wipeywipey · 15/05/2026 12:03

Fairly sure the BBC has a story with Woman in the title for a Russian trans character today. Why it is on the front page of the UK BBC app is beyond me.

Isn’t he a practicing Catholic with several children? I’m pretty sure that somewhere, deep down he does know.

He’s also moved from being a Blairite to his current incarnation as a left winger. Which makes me think he may remember what a woman is once it becomes expedient to do so.

No, he isn't with any faith now. I think he was never a believer.

StillSpartacus · 15/05/2026 13:02

That’s a good illustration of the AB journey isn’t it, Gentle? So when previously standing for the leadership, gosh no, bad church, I’m not religious me (I just happen to have been brought up catholic and send my DC to catholic schools).

The trouble is, he might be a better communicator than Starmer, but I’m not actually convinced his political convictions are any less expedient.

He did not welcome the SC judgement. He is in favour of self-ID. We don't want him.

Grammarnut · 15/05/2026 21:14

I think we should have Rosie Duffield.

Absolutely this.
A decade of this shit has worn us out.
Right now, any politician, especially one going for the top job, if he or she cannot confirm material reality, they're unfit to govern.
Looking forwards to him skulking away back to running his buses in Manchester when the public have their say next month.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 17/05/2026 14:26

Given that Streeting has already made his move and Burnham isn't even in the starting position, and won't be until he wins a seat, any seat, anywhere in the UK, he's not fussy, just desperate, it maybe a moot point as to where he is a sex realist or not.

Igmum · Today 06:57

He’s a misogynist TRA. I do like some of his policies in Manchester but I don’t want anyone as PM who doesn’t value women and LGBs and will throw us under the bus the moment a TW asks. There’s a clip of him somewhere responding to a woman who asked about women’s rights and the ‘calm down dear’ vibes come over far too clearly.

knittin · Today 07:00

Just seen this. Can Andy Burnham even begin to imagine how worrying this is for women?

Ereshkigalangcleg · Today 07:02

Hopefully he’ll get grilled on this.

unsync · Today 07:10

I hope that Reform wipe the floor with this egotistical, self serving sorry excuse for a politician.

He should be made to pay for the cost of both the by-election and the mayoral election, neither of which would be needed if he actually had the good of the country front and centre, rather than his own selfish agenda and overblown sense of self importance. The fact that he's yet another Labour male who thinks men should able to trample all over Women's Rights tells you everything you need to know about him. I dislike Reform, but I hope they win this one and teach him a lesson.

Then we need to start a petition to get the legislation changed to prohibit politicians who behave like this from ever being able to stand again if they have resigned a seat for vanity purposes.

Men like this don't care about women. If they did, they wouldn't come out with this bullshit.

Jettina · Today 07:23

No apparently hoe does not.

Theeyeballsinthesky · Today 07:24

If I were the media I'd be looking at the Lorna young tribunal and what has been going on at Manchester City council while AB has been Mayor

Dragonasaurus · Today 07:24

I do wonder whether, with some of these ‘LGBT-heavy’ politicians, the best way in is to talk about the imposition of women into spaces for gay men?

Although, Hampstead Ponds seems to demo that councils can believe that men should have access to female spaces, while preventing women accessing men’s, so that probably wouldn’t help

What is this about? <curious>

Mhm Angela seems more palatable knowing he's all that.

That’s a really good point. I hope the Reform candidate makes good use of this (also don’t support Reform)

Ffs women voters please remove this misogynist oaf.

Alwaysoneoddsock · Today 07:29

I’ve been a life long Labour voter. I’ve spent the last five years arguing with people that Reform are dangerous and a risk to the country. I now think they need to win that by election.

DontStopMe · 14/05/2026 22:35

Does anyone else think the by-election might not go as planned, and end up with Labour losing to Reform?

It’s very close. It could go either way.

usual witch hunt against a GC woman. She liked I believe 2 tweets that were GC and posted 2 GC tweets using an anonymised account which didn't identify her or link her in anyway to MCC. She was dismissed for gross misconduct and is now suing the council for unfair dismissal on the grounds of religion or belief

Burnham has had several years to understand the implications of pretending that humans can change sex. We have just seen the horrifying reality of this play out in the case of a young woman who believes she is a man and who was placed on a psychiatric ward full of men where she was raped within an hour of arrival.

Burnham is either so stupid he really thinks that people can self-identify into the opposite sex - in which case he doesn't deserve to be voted in.

Or he knows perfectly well that humans can't self-identify into the opposite sex but is too cowardly to say so - in which case he doesn't deserve to be voted in.

The very limited patience I had for these people has run out. They are utterly loathsome.
