Burnham - does he know what a woman is?

Dragonasaurus · 14/05/2026 20:49

Just that really - we’ve had Starmer prevaricating, fence sitting, “most women don’t have a penis” in fact women don’t have a penis’ but somehow I’m going to let Phillipson sit on the guidance which would ensure women’s single sex spaces (some of them anyway)…..

Would Burnham be any better? Does anyone know what his position is?

Yes that is what I think, for one.

"change leader" that'll be PM Burnham, then?

Anyway, this personalisation of politics is daft. I'm sure Burnham himself didn't pore over all the details of Manchester's bus service, any more than Boris personally designed Boris Bikes. Which in itself is not a criticism of either of them.

You say that, but there was the weirdest interview with a politician I've ever seen, where Johnson admitted a hobby of his was making toy buses and lorries, painting them red, and pushing them about.
"The wheels of the bus go round and round, round and round..."

Ah yes, but then if you googled Boris and bus you got the wierd interview, not the bus promising millions of pounds for the NHS if we voted leave…..

I remember that being said at the time. It was the only justification that made the slightest bit of sense.

Latest crazy. A senior Labour figure argued in a Spectator piece by ShippersUnbound that Andy Burnham represents Labour's first female prime minister in all but sex, justifying the party's lack of female leaders.

Right, Burnham is a female PM in all but actual biological reality, and is such a proponent of female virtues that he believes men can become women and occupy their spaces, voted for PB trial, obfuscated on grooming gangs inquest and was as useful as a chocolate teapot re the Mid Staffs Hospital Trust scandal.
Yep, he's female alright.

I think we should apply for a GRC for him. It’s obviously only his internalized transphobia that’s preventing his egg from cracking.

'Either way, there is a strong sense that a Burnham-led government will be female-dominated. One senior figure in the party even describes Burnham as ‘Labour’s first woman prime minister’. This is not a revelation about his policy on self-ID for trans people, but reflects his interests. ‘The reason Labour have always craved, but also been cautious about, a female leader is because, in a Labour government, she could have an unashamedly female agenda, focused on health, education, family finances and issues like safer streets, social care, online safety for kids, that are disproportionately important to women. [This would be] unlike the Tories’ female leaders, who are under internal pressure – and the weight of history – to show how tough they are on traditionally male issues. Along comes Andy, surrounded by female advisers and backers, but more importantly, genuinely passionate about all those traditionally female-oriented issues, and much less so with the bombs and budgets. So could we finally see what Labour has failed to deliver all these years – a female PM in all but sex?’'

Can Burnham resist the siren call of the left?

Power, when it is gained and lost, is transferred in stages: the actual, the visual and the constitutional. The latter took place on Tuesday evening when the prime minister presumptive sent a letter to Antonia Romeo, the Cabinet Secretary,

Does that come with eye glitter? (he really doesn't need mascara, he'd end up looking like Betty Boop,)

Now that does conjure up quite am image 😂 what I wouldn't have given for those eyelashes when I was younger.

The hot weather has affected their brains, surely? This is the same kind of sexist nonsense that leads people to believe they can change sex by putting on a skirt and make up and hanging out in the ladies to talk about hats ...

Shortshriftandlethal · 25/06/2026 20:14

It is certainly true that it is not Burnham who is running his own show, it has been a small group of mainly female figures from Greater Manchester. The idea that Lousie Haigh is the one choosing his cabinet is quite frankly an appalling affront to democracy.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 25/06/2026 20:26

So Andy burnham is better at being a female PM than an actual woman would be?

but of course

No, I haven't read 8 pages of this thread. Just to say, I think Burnham is a third rate cartoon man, and I am amazed at the 'Andy' fans. He's a nothingburger, no charisma, no intellect, bad hair (like Starmer) and bad teeth, on the level of a local councillor - not a national or global leader.

ArabellaScott · 25/06/2026 21:54

Having researched it, I think he has what are called Feathered brows.

Regulation of brow groomers is no doubt top of the list.

🔥 The Women's PLP WhatsApp group is ablaze with fury over the ShippersUnbound
story quoting a senior figure describing Burnham as 'Labour's first woman prime minister'

Tulip Siddiq: "Who is this senior figure in our party that thinks Andy Burnham is our first woman PM? I'm sure Andy himself doesn't think that. The 'senior figure' needs to simultaneously shut up and apologise to Women's PLP"

Ashley Dalton: "WTAF? ... A man, I'm guessing"

Jen Craft: "IMHO the reason we have never had a female leader is a mix of internalised underlying misogyny, but more importantly the absolute wave of s**t thrown at any strong Labour woman who looks like she might be a viable candidate"

Alison McGovern: "This. Waves and waves of shit."

Polly Billington: "A period of silence from our male colleagues is always welcome. Now more than ever."

Etc etc

Labour ruling out a GE to test voter’s commitment to a Burnham premiership. No shit Sherlock. No way Burnham is going to risk not having his day in the sun.

My DH says well, Burnham is Labour’s only chance of keeping Reform out at the next election. I say Labour is a dead man walking at the next GE even with Burnham. Tiny, infinitesimal chance he’ll better than I’m envisioning. I hope so.

But there’s an equally if not larger chance he’ll screw it up too, only it’ll be fresher in the electorate’s minds. I’m picturing a hung Parliament next GE.
