Welcome to the Bluestocking women's pub. Men are directed to the Staunch Ally just down the road. Otherwise all are welcome. Pull up a chair, give your order to the Wait Gerbil or the Gerbil behind the bar.

Don't forget to name change if you wish to.

Camels can drink anyone under the table, but they don’t need to do it very often.

Hello everyone have not been in for quite some time.

i have had so much shit flying around me it got a bit too much. I didn't want to be on here moaning like a sad old hedgehog bringing misery and woe to the pub.

So here i am not fully recovered but self pulled together sort of thing.

done a lot of decorating, more to do and caught up with the gardening.

Where are the snowballs, and a pint of shardonay please gerbils.

This is the Bluey, you can share your woes as well as all the other stuff we share, too numerous to mentionSmile
But if you feel you just want to sit quietly and feast on snowballs and chardonnay, that's OK too.
Here's a hug from Rosie - there's a fad at the moment for support camels, but I'd go with the red panda if I were you😄

Sharing woes is one of the important functions of the Bluey, Hedgy.

Cake, good luck for Friday (at least they're not making you wait months). Sorry about your friend's sister.

AsWithGlad · 23/03/2026 19:33

My sympathies, too, @lcakethereforeIam and all the best for Friday.

Well done on your squares, @EdithStourton . May I ask, as a knitter, does the crocheted one need a much higher level of skill than the knitted ones? I could manage the knitted ones (not as well as you, naturally) but the crocheted one looks as if it would take years of practice.

Gosh, no, the crocheted one was very quick to do - even though I had to frog a couple of bits due to inattention. One of the fish took a bloody eternity, I kept going wrong, and it was easier to frog the whole lot and start again.

Crochet was my gateway drug to knitting. I'd tried both when younger and not really got on with either, but crochet looked like an easier gig. Because you only have the one loop, if you go wrong it's very easy to just frog back to where you made the mistake, there is no faffing about picking up 100s of stitches. I found a couple of photo tutorials, which taught me to read patterns along the way, and I went from there. I got into knitting as I found crochet a bit limiting for making wearable things and my SIL got me started.

(And I'll bet your knitting is better than mine!)

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 23/03/2026 21:00

Hello @Hedgehogforshort sorry to hear that things have not been good for you. At least in the Bluestocking you can relax. The snug is full of Cake's camels at the moment and the capybaras have gone out to look for a lost soul, but if you sit by the fire and put your feet up, I'm sure Rosie and the gerbils will soon have you feeling betterFlowers

Hedgehogforshort · 23/03/2026 21:22

Well Today I wanted to change bank account details for my civil service pension. So i set up an account on the portal, took about 30 mins.
It told me to wait for 15 mins before going in to my new shiny internet account.

Went back in an hour later and it told me i was locked out and should contact my support person to gain access???????

So I phoned up, the not so helpful help line. 45minutes later i got through to some bloke who in a nutshell said “i dunno” and if i wanted to change my bank details i needed to ring back and go through a different sequence of numbers as he only provides tech support.

I amazed myself that i did not lose my temper, must be an age thing.

CAPITA by the way

fuckingfuckwits.

AsWithGlad · 23/03/2026 21:54

@EdithStourton Thank you for your comments on crocheting. I did a Debbie Abrahams (knitting) and Jane Crowfoot (crochet) weekend a few years ago. Just for a change I began the crocheting project, and was quite pleased with what I produced, but when I got home and tried to finish it I was lost.

(And I'll bet your knitting is better than mine!) I bet not, but any skills I have will be because I’ve been knitting for longer, because of my advanced age.

FranticFrankie · 23/03/2026 21:54

Sorry cake 💐🎂
Apologies for assuming the sex of the camel. Almost misgendered them.
Hugs Hedgey 🦔

Shardonay is a reference i made in a thread where someone plopped in to accuse us all of being commoners, staggering around thinly dressed in Newcastle or some other such place so had a laugh about lambrini and shardonay and pinogreegjio

lcakethereforeIam · 23/03/2026 22:18

Thank you. I was worried you'd punched something.

Not that I'd blame you. Flowers

A friend of fella recently retired from HMRC. He'd been eeking out his savings waiting for his pension to be sorted.

I must have been off sick when comfort camels were introduced. Surely they would give you the hump.

And that's ignoring the facts that they have a hide that is about as smooth as a farrier's rasp, smell like a drowned badger that then dried out in the sun and, finally, spit foul smelling gloop in your face just because they can.

Please remind me how camels became comfort animals?

WearyAuldWumman · 23/03/2026 22:28

Thank you @JanesLittleGirl . Spitting was the first thing that came to my mind.

Hedgehogforshort · 23/03/2026 22:31

Yes i mean please camels, can you imagine me trying to hug a spitting camel for comfort, not to mention a beetle.

lcakethereforeIam · 23/03/2026 22:50

I don't think the Bluestocking camels spit. Or at least I've not seen them do it. Perhaps we should get some spittoons? They're not really huggers, but they great listeners (they've got those sort of faces) or, if you don't feel like talking, they'll carry the conversation. They seem to be very attuned to their company. Always pitch what they're saying just right. They don't give unwanted advice, can talk about soaps, current affairs, travel, history, be light hearted or serious. Honestly, they have a gift.

They don't smell too bad and are always well turned out.

I've got a feeling it started off as a typo.

I have been slightly worrying about sympathy camels myself, but too cowardly to actually speak up. I mean, it's not quite like looking a gift horse in the mouth, refusing a sympathy camel, but it's along those lines isn't it?

(tries to construct a joke involving the words camel and karma, fails, shuffles about, looks sheepish)

Oh dear!

Maybe she was annoyed at getting the brush off when she was all prepared to talk about any of the soaps?

edited to say I'm sorry Hedgie, but I don't know anything about the soaps these days because I haven't watched them since 1995. I don't even know much about sloths! But we have some very nice hedgehogs around my way. Mostly still in hibernation, hopefully.

I mean all i said was Kane Dingle is no longer attractive to me

MyrtleLion · 23/03/2026 23:05

Well I'm fucking well fucked off at not even getting an interview for two roles. One where I was told I should apply because I am amazing 🙄 and one where I'm actually a volunteer doing that role.

All the gin.
All the chardonnay (and yes I noticed the bottle of rose I necked was sauvignon blanc. So what that I drank it anyway?!)

And I am coming to the conclusion that I'm too scarynto employ.

Where is THE FUCKING GIN?!

I am probably best left alone with some booze till i stop feeling like this.
