Welcome to the Bluestocking women's pub. Men are directed to the Staunch Ally just down the road. Otherwise all are welcome. Pull up a chair, give your order to the Wait Gerbil or the Gerbil behind the bar.

Don't forget to name change if you wish to.

I’m looking out on snow-covered ground again and envying your cherry trees. Ours will be out in about a month, and the snow usually melts off within a couple of days at this time of year, but the weather has been so crazy in recent years who knows? You guys can offer thanks to the Gulf Stream and we can say boo to the Labrador Current. Pray for me sisters - I’m going to a class at the gym this morning. I’m not sure my body knows what it’s in for.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/03/2026 12:44

Just been to the dump with the dogwood prunings , which I had tamed into two large tubs plus some sticks. The blokes who work there are, IME, lovely and helpful - I could have chucked the tubfuls in but the green waste skip was quite full so it would have been a bit of a reach.

after lunch I may go out and hack some more, but we’ve got to go to the GPs mid afternoon, DH is feeling proper poorly with a chest infection and they want to see him, plus the nurse wants another sample from me to check the uti is vanquished and we also need to pick up our repeat prescriptions. So at least we’ll be being efficient.

FranticFrankie · 23/03/2026 12:54

Nice work @EdithStourton 👌👌

ErrolTheDragon · 23/03/2026 12:58

Yes, Edith’s squares are beautiful and so varied. Did you have patterns for the fish?

(which reminds me, anyone with carp in their garage fgs dig a pond…Grin)

EdithStourton · 23/03/2026 15:33

I had one pattern.
One of the fish squares is upside down in the photo.
<sigh>
That is entirely typical of me.

MarieDeGournay · 23/03/2026 15:41

Your squares are beautiful, Edith.

Hope the medical stuff works out OK for you and Mr Dragon, Errol.

Thoughts and prayers for the gym, Britinme😄

I'm back from the Breast Clinic. The tumour they found was so wee they think doing anything about it would be over treatment. So my lymph nodes are in the clear 🥳 However, something, something margins, means they do want to remove a bit more breast tissue. It's another general anaesthetic but a smaller incision and no need for a wire to be inserted. I've got a pre-op tomorrow and the surgery on Friday. I've been told there's a bit of fluid in my breast but it isn't tidal. I don't have to worry about going up a cup size during the full/new moon.

A friend's sister has died very suddenly. She was ill, on the transplant list, but this was unexpected. Her and I shared the same first name, so I feel a bit odd if I ring her sister and leave a message. She was a lovely woman, always very good humoured and positive. I'd not seen her for years but her sister kept me up to date.

It must feel very odd, Cake, though it seems hopeful. Take care of yourself.

support camel and vegetation

Seconding the sympathy camel, @lcakethereforeIam

Apparently they drink cider.

MarieDeGournay · 23/03/2026 17:15

I'm so sorry, Cake, you are being your usual brave and coping self with the additional - though happily not serious - procedure, but now you have the sad news about your friend's sister to deal with too.
Sending lots of love and hugsFlowers

And have very clever tailors - it's not easy dealing with humps, but that tailor has really nailed it😄

Chersfrozenface · 23/03/2026 17:23

Sympathies, Cake. I have another support camel about me, should you need another.

FranticFrankie · 23/03/2026 17:40

Flower looks a bit ... er. Excitable @DeanElderberry 😊
Smart camel @Magpiecomplex he looks like he'd be good support
Has he nipped in from the Staunch Ally??

it does, doesn't it. Mumsnet lists it was a Hibiscus.

Maybe its cherry blossom is less obvious

🌸

oh, or tulips

DeanElderberry · 23/03/2026 17:50

as not was

PastaAllaNorma · 23/03/2026 18:02

Sympathy camel from me as well, Cake 🐫

Marie, red kites aren't actually raptors. They are scavengers, not hunters, and they have a very weak grip. I once saw one grab a great tit on the wing and the great tit fought free. (Well done that bird!)
We have two kites that visit daily and it's still a thrill after all these years.

Edith, those squares are just gorgeous! I'm so impressed.

I took the chair to the park today, and did a bit of foraging for wild garlic. I love that stuff, it's delicious.

She was supposed to be a female camel but I agree it's not obvious!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 23/03/2026 18:21

All the best, Cake. 💙

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 23/03/2026 18:26

I won't offer to add another camel to your growing menagerie Cake, but I will keep everything crossed that your small op on Friday will finish off any unwanted
cells that may be lurkingFlowers

Sorry to hear about your friend's sister.

Can we mobilise the Bluestocking capybaras to find one of their own who has got lost near Marwell Zoo. I think Clara should be put in charge of the operation.

A small capybara faces towards the camera. It is dark and the animal, as well as some foliage behind it, are illuminated by what appears to be artificial light.

Drones have been deployed in the search for nine-month-old capybara Samba.

Sending sympathies for the loss of your sister's friend, @lcakethereforeIam .

I'm glad that the breast issue is smaller than it might have been and that the lymph node news is good.

Britinme · 23/03/2026 19:31

I'm glad the tumour news was mostly positive ("it's small we can get rid of it") @lcakethereforeIam .

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers for the gym @MyrtleLion . Considering this was a class for old people it was surprisingly energetic and I am in fact knackered. But it was undoubtedly good for me and I shall go again.

AsWithGlad · 23/03/2026 19:33

My sympathies, too, @lcakethereforeIam and all the best for Friday.

Well done on your squares, @EdithStourton . May I ask, as a knitter, does the crocheted one need a much higher level of skill than the knitted ones? I could manage the knitted ones (not as well as you, naturally) but the crocheted one looks as if it would take years of practice.

lcakethereforeIam · 23/03/2026 19:41

The camel, June, is female and a natty dresser. Really excellent company, could drink even Glenda under the table. Then Sandra, Audry and Carid showed up.

.....?

I've just scrolled up the thread and had to do a bit of a double take! Someone had posted something about tits 😃

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 23/03/2026 19:50

Camels can drink anyone under the table, but they don’t need to do it very often.
