Welcome to the Bluestocking women's pub. Men are directed to the Staunch Ally just down the road. Otherwise all are welcome. Pull up a chair, give your order to the Wait Gerbil or the Gerbil behind the bar.

Don't forget to name change if you wish to.

Cake, all the best for the op today. 💙

Britinme, as an arty flower arranger I love the sound of that exhibition. I just found this article on the concept, which I'd never heard of:

Don't blame you.

When we go to visit the junior Woley family, we get pizza from their local independent pizzeria - I have one with a soft white cheese, dolce latte, olive tapenade and apple slices. It is simply the best pizza I have ever eaten, and worth spiking my blood sugar for.

MarieDeGournay · 27/03/2026 11:31

I apologise, Modom, but the
'ACRAY Titanium Whistle – Ultra-Loud 120+ dB, CNC Machined, Lightweight & Durable – Perfect for Emergency Survival, Hiking, Camping, and Outdoor Safety – Includes Stainless Steel Chain'
appears to be out of stock at the moment.

May I suggest Modom might be interested in the 'Nebulous Dog Whistle' instead?
😁

[in case anyone is going 'Nebulous whaat? what's she on about?!, it's a phrase from the Sandie Peggy tribunal]

edited to add that us GCers should wear small dog whistles, becausee just saying 'adult human female' is a transphobic dog-whistle, allegedly 🙄- so we can spot each other in crowds😄

Chersfrozenface · 27/03/2026 11:55

Modom will consider a Nebulous Dog Whistle. Something like this from Amazon, perhaps - "Pet Training Ultrasonic Sound Dog Whistle, Stainless Steel Dog Adjustable Sound Whistle With Key Ring"

Description begins "The dog whistle is made of metal and hard plastic, with a small size that is easy to carry around..."

Easy to carry around on a lanyard in suffragette colours, obviously.

I like that idea.

I've been tempted to get round pin badges made with Maud on them, but how would I distribute them to my fellow patrons? Maybe we could each order a badge using the same image, & then we'd recognise each other if we all congregated somewhere IRL (which is, admittedly, unlikely).

There's also this:
https://www.presentindicative.com/products/bluestocking-enamel-pin
which someone once found.

Bluestocking - Badge of Honour

Intellectual and proud? We approve! Part of our Badges of Honour range. Enamelled blue and gold metal badge. Measures approx 3 cm long. Made in the UK.

MarieDeGournay · 27/03/2026 12:01

I love this idea, Android and I'll deffo get a badge!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 27/03/2026 12:04

Aha! You can get dog whistles in lovely metallic colours. 3 at once, in suffragette colours? Or a shade of blue?

OMG This is wonderful! I was trying to find the original woman who said this & so I put it into google search:

When I get truly exasperated with CP and insult it's intelligent it agrees that I'm right, apologies profusely, promises never to do it again then produces yet another image but now even more wrong than the previous one!

As someone who cannot for all the money in the world manage to make flowers look pretty in a vase I feel much envy at the photos!

Stunning images though.

I like the idea of pizza more than my stomach likes actual pizza.

I do yearn for a well made pizza though, it's been years since I had a decent one .

EdithStourton · 27/03/2026 12:55

I am already well supplied with dog whistles, specifically Acme 210 1/2, the old hard plastic variety that they seem to have discontinued in favour of a softer plastic which is a bit yuck, IMHO.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/03/2026 13:10

Does a transphobic dog-whistle summon transphobic dogs?

I’ve been for my eye exam - they can see absolutely no signs of any diabetic problems, which is wonderful, and my distance vision is perfect, but I need new reading glasses, so I’m getting a pair with pink frames. I have got the beginnings of some cloudiness in the lenses that might, in time, become cataracts, but I’m not too worried.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 27/03/2026 13:17

Sounds good, Woley, though pink glasses are surely the beginings of a slippery slope to full Prue Leithdom?

I get really angry with AI and swear at it and take out my fury.

I am never this furious in person, so it's rather worrying.

The gerbils had planned to put Easter lamb cake on the menu.

They are currently reassessing that decision.

And Android, I know I should have asked before nicking the ham off the plate in your lab. I've learnt my lesson, now will you please put my ears, and the rest of me, back to normal.

Thank you

It's because it feels like we are being gaslighted by the AI.

It sounds like they've made the Acme 210 1/2 more nebulous😒

That sounds like good news, Woley, the cheerbils' support routine obviously worked - oh look, they're still at it
'Give me an N!'.....😃

Even if cataracts eventually develop, I think we have categorically established here that they are, relatively speaking,a doddle, so fear notSmile

I like the tone of I'M GETTING A PAIR WITH PINK FRAMES, no ifs or buts and don't let anyone stand between me and my pink frames - you go gurl,
you'll look great in them😄

ErrolTheDragon · 27/03/2026 15:47

That image made me wonder ‘do beetles have ears’.
Only a few species of beetles, such as some scarab and tiger beetles, have ears that allow them to hear airborne sounds. Most beetle species do not have the ability to hear at all but can communicate through vibrations in solid objects

AsWithGlad · 27/03/2026 15:58
