Welcome to the Bluestocking women's pub. Excellent (if sometimes wilful) gerbil bar staff, varied cocktails, splendid cakes, cracking Sunday roasts...

Voted Best Pub for the umpteenth thread running, join us for conversation about tractors, units of measurement, films, wildlife, and even, sometimes, women's rights.

Just keep Glenda off the gin.

Any men, you can trot along to the Staunch Ally just up the road.

Now i know about Stanley (feels engaged)

Are you going to sign up? Boily's in & really going for it. The experiment hasn't even started yet & she's pressing that button fit to bust a gut.

I'm going to run a new version to see if it makes a difference whom the lab rat volunteer believes to be in the other room. Probably best not to say, here, but I've got a few interesting names I might use.

Of course when it comes to that sort of movie I have a special affection for Love At First Bite (1979), because where else can you see Dracula (George Hamilton) showing off his dance moves at Studio 54?

Night all 😉

I saw that at the late night showing in The Grosvenor in Glasgow: "With you, never a quickie - only a longie."

Ah, what it was to be 19.

Starting offer. .. A packet of Tunnock's teacakes and a snowball if you do a good job?

I swing between struggling to find something to get rid of and the urge to skip the entire house if I had the energy and a skip!

But I have started to get rid of more of the things that I've been holding onto as it might come in useful one day.

I find myself having to give myself a good talking to "FFS Boiled it hasn't come in useful for the 20/30/40 years you've had it you aren't suddenly going to find a use for it tomorrow. And if you do then buy a bloody new one!" . It works some days but I still find myself arguing back "but but but..." way too often

I think I do need someone stood over me in real time in real life to go "Really Boiled? Really? You want to hold into that load of crap?"

Edited

I managed to throw out a DKNY handbag yesterday. I'd repaired it myself a few times and it really does look tatty now.. I think it's the only time I ever bought myself a designer-ish handbag if you don't count the Louis Vuitton rip-off I bought underneath Montparnasse in '81.

I didn't know that it was a rip-off. I'd never heard of Louis Vuitton and I thought that the equivalent of £12 for a handbag was very expensive.

Thanks! I've now discovered the origin of 'sparp' & it was one of my AI images. Apologies to the universe.

I bet @Britinme 's kicking herself she didn't come up with that poem for her book, though.😂

Dammit I’m always too late!

But did write a poem about beetles the other day and it hit the fastest acceptance I’ve ever had so it’s not all bad.

Weve had a couple of glorious days, snow melting, I could see grass - but we’re forecast two inches more of it tomorrow :-(

No hug with Hedgie? OK, then.

A big fat cheese scone, please, bar-gerbil. With a stiff gin to go with it. Tonic optional.

@Magpiecomplex - sorry you are feeling shit. Dr Bessie's been living with me but promises to pop over to check on you.

Fingers crossed for @MyrtleLion and the interview.

I wanted to say thank you to all the Blue Stockingers for weighing in on the Woolly Hug thread - the knitters/crocheters and the cheerleaders and of course Maud (I love her best in her PJs or her hoody). I really appreciate it, and I know Wafflenose will do. And young 'Rara' was a strong souls, and would have appreciated knowing there were other strong women behind her. I think I'm trying to knit her alive again, as if if I knit enough squares and try to capture enough of her essence in them it will bring her back. I know it won't, obviously. But anyway, thank you.

I'm so glad you posted in here to prompt us. I haven't done anything for WH for ages and this was a lovely way to come back in. I didn't know waffle nose or her daughter but it's every parent's worst nightmare so I was glad to get involved.

Fair enough. I don’t get it and find it weird and grating. Obviously this is not for me!

I would say you have two choices. Watch for a while, get to know the characters and then begin to join in, or wander back out, closing the door behind you.

I was first drawn in after following a thread one night about Maud and her many costumes. It was so lovely and gentle when not every corner of MN is. A short while later I made friends with someone on here (mentioning no names FuzzyPuffling) who invited me along and it has been far from a clique. Just a warm space really.

It's a bit like reading Private Eye. None of it makes sense until it does, and then suddenly the in-jokes are hilarious.

Exactly this!

Magpiecomplex · 11/03/2026 07:13

The Spam cocktail was my first post in the Bluey, I remember it fondly!

DeanElderberry · 11/03/2026 07:35

Mornin' all. Blue sky, sunshine, cold air coming in the window with resultant cuddly cats (who are in mid moult so there is shed hair all over me and everything else).

Spam cocktail NO, but I opened a can of Lidl's Newgate chopped pork and ham the other week and had it as fritters for dinner one day, with pasta, peas, onions and mushroom on another, and with lettuce and tomatoes for lunch on day three. Very nice, must buy another tin or two.

It never fails to amaze me how much fur they lose in spring.

My floor has fur everywhere this morning.

Just been for breakfast with Maud. I love that she makes builder's tea!

Just popped in to say I'm sorry about the SPARP.
Doubly awful from a non-red- meat eater.

Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry....

FuzzyPuffling · 11/03/2026 08:02

I hadn't realised it was me. Was it really?

Definitely having a moment there. I'll do my best to refrain in future. < Hangs head in Sparpy shame>
