Opening soon in a salubrious location.

And thanks to the miraculous qualities, although we will indeed have

One-steps and two-steps and the divil knows what new steps
We know that we never would be dull again, bedad
We'll have wine, porter and lemonade.
We'll have cocktails and cocoa and all
We'll have champagnes tonight
But NO real pains next morning
Tonight when we dance at the Bluestocking Ball

slight apologies to Frank Harte

I struggle with German food. It's all rather meat- based for me.

Gillian and I will pop down into my burrow for some chocolate trifle instead.

There's a schwarzwälder kirschtorte in the kitchen - if the gerbils haven't been nibbling at it.

I'm torn. Do I go for the German buffet or sneak in to your burrow to snaffle some chocolate trifle?

Decisions decisons!

No snaffling needed- enough for everyone.
Just be kind to Gillian!

Meanwhile, I’ve been to the Amsterdam Resistance museum this afternoon, after a morning at the zoo. Both excellent in their extremely different ways.

Ready for a new small furry? May I introduce you to an elephant shrew, which is, according to Wikipedia, more closely related to elephants than shrews. Confused

I think they get together on certain fine days, the elephant shrews and their cousins Grin

Great minds and all that, Magpie.

Gosie and Glenda are dancing on the bar wearing lederhosen.

JanesLittleGirl · 04/03/2026 18:49

I've had to switch to grok co Pilot has gone on strike!

They've moved to the floor as Gilda is busy moving all the gin to the locked storage area.

Have they done some...?...spaetzel*? If they have I'll have a curry wurst with some of that.

*probably spelled wrong (I just chucked vowels at it) and missing an umlaut.

This is the Bluestockin,. You can have anything you want, even if it's spelt wrong Smile

Igneococcus · 04/03/2026 18:59

Gosh, German Evening is it, I wonder if I still fit into my Dirndl (probably not, sadly). I have a Radler and a Brezn with Obazda, thank you.

EdithStourton · 04/03/2026 19:00

Gerbils in lederhosen.
Not a sight I thought I'd ever see.

I'm having problems typing as Batshit is asleep under one of my elbows.

EdithStourton · 04/03/2026 19:01

Could you translate that, please, @Igneococcus?
My German is very limited and doesn't stretch that far.

Igneococcus · 04/03/2026 19:06

A shandy with a Pretzel (but in the proper Bavarian spelling) and Obatzda. Obazda can't be translated, it's Camembert mixed with butter, finely chopped onions and in some recipes Quark as well but not in my Mum's, and salt, pepper, sometimes caraway seeds too @EdithStourton it's perfect for eating with a Brezn.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2026 19:08

Colin wishes to remind you that his common name ‘German sausage’ dog can be read as a dietary preference.
(though he won’t say no to a British banger either)

EdithStourton · 04/03/2026 19:08

I'm in for the pretzel and... Obazda...?
Sounds lovely, Igneo.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/03/2026 19:10

I remember having a slice of Schwarzwalder Kirschetorte in the Black Forest, on a school exchange trip - it was the most wonderful cake I’d ever tasted, and I still adore it.

I spent this afternoon casting on 290 stitches to start the skirt of the knitted dress with Christmas trees that I’m making for my granddaughters - lost of counting - with Midsomer Murders on in the background. For some reason I have never watched this before, and now I have a feast of binge watching laid out in front of me!
