Opening soon in a salubrious location.

And thanks to the miraculous qualities, although we will indeed have

One-steps and two-steps and the divil knows what new steps
We know that we never would be dull again, bedad
We'll have wine, porter and lemonade.
We'll have cocktails and cocoa and all
We'll have champagnes tonight
But NO real pains next morning
Tonight when we dance at the Bluestocking Ball

slight apologies to Frank Harte

if I give you a bunch of sympathy flowers, remember this is the Bluestocking and they will NOT give you hay fever

💐

the emoji panel loaded so slowly I nearly lost patience and sent you a sympathy camel instead

Edited

A sympathy 🐫 works for me. Thank you.

I think a Sympathy Camel should be a thing.
🐪🐫
OK, one of those is the Dromedary of Joy.

Can I have a Sympathy Camel too? I started with a UTI yesterday, which I have not had for quite a few years, so today we went to the urgent care place (not an ER, slightly less dramatic than that, and they open from 9am to 8pm seven days a week). I had to pee into a little bottle and yep, I have a UTI. I have a medication I haven't used before because I seem to have had quite a lot of amoxicillin one way or the other during the last seven or eight months - most recently following a dental implant a couple of weeks ago. In fact the doctor suggested that it might be the amoxicillin that brought it on because in killing off some of the bad bacteria it allows others to flourish. Anyway the new one is called Macrobid and I hope it stops me from having to pee about every half hour.

EdithStourton · 22/02/2026 20:26

I think a UTI needs an entire oasis's-worth of Camels of Consolation.

UTIs are horrible things.

Dromedries are the Arabian one-hump camels, Bactrian camels have two.

(Except in Arthur Ransome stories where dromedaries are bicycles.)

I'm glad someone knows which is which. All I can ever think of is that poem, which doesn't help!

Thanks Dean.

Catching up here. I did like my Educational Journal when I was still teaching.

I sent off for that ADHD house management diary thingy that was being advertised on FB. I do use one of the sections as an aide memoire, but the diary isn't really as expected - it's got umpteen nicked systems (including Flylady's) shoved in the one book.

WearyAuldWumman · 22/02/2026 20:51

Oh, and I'm going to see what Turmeric is like in Whittard's chocolate made with 'lactose free' (actually milk with the thingies added) to see what it's like. Dare I add the black pepper too?

I did try oatmilk for a while, but I think that it was setting off my stomach too.

Auld age is a bugger.

ChristmasStars · 22/02/2026 21:08

runs in, out of breath I'm here!

Was just catching up with the ADHD posts on the old thread and didn't realise we had moved on!

Love the link to ADHD dino... Only just managed to drag myself away. It came with an ad for Fab - ADHD app. Do NOT get it - they rely on ADHD stopping any of us from realising they're taking money despite not having a subscription!

FuzzyPuffling · 22/02/2026 21:16

I don't have ADHD. I am an introvert, but over compensate so no one believes me.
I could happily be an anchorite. Well, probably.

Hedgehogforshort · 22/02/2026 21:21

Missed the bus again tsk

Boiledbeetle · 22/02/2026 21:28

Right I've had enough excitement for today

<passes sympathy camel to @Britinme >

I'm off back to bed to carry on watching every episode of the Walking Dead, currently on season 8.

Ooh is that what Julian of Norwich was? I read a couple of books about her last year. Fascinating.

Easy peasy.
A1 [Arabian] .
B2 [Bactrian] .
They don't call my Johnny Mnemonic for nothing. OK, so they don't call me Johnny Mnemonic at all, but I'd quite like it if they did😄

Britinme · 22/02/2026 21:45

Thank you for sympathy camels. Unlike me at the moment, camels can hold on to their water, so they are a hopeful thing to have.

EmpressaurusKitty · 22/02/2026 21:46

Kitty’s pal Bertram would like to volunteer for the role of Sympathy Camel.

In other news, I learned this morning that we have had EIGHT inches of rain here so far this year - 5" in January, and 3" in Feb to date.

This explains why there is an actual pond across one of the local footpaths, and why a farmer down the road has dug a whole new ditch to improve his drainage.

We don't need camels. We need the bloody Ark.

A large gin and nonic, please, Glenda. Glenda? Glenda? Ah yes, thank you <squints at name badge> you're new here, er... Giraffe?

Hang on in there Boily. I have left a couple of grass enhanced scones in your larder in case you need a little pick-me-up.

AsWithGlad · 22/02/2026 22:10

Is it yet another of the wonders of The Bluestocking that those corset dresses pictured above are comfortable?

Yes, I know well-fitted corsets are meant to be comfortable, but not ones which narrow my waist that much.
