The Bluestocking Inn, cocktails and cocoa and all

Opening soon in a salubrious location.

And thanks to the miraculous qualities, although we will indeed have

One-steps and two-steps and the divil knows what new steps
We know that we never would be dull again, bedad
We'll have wine, porter and lemonade.
We'll have cocktails and cocoa and all
We'll have champagnes tonight
But NO real pains next morning
Tonight when we dance at the Bluestocking Ball

slight apologies to Frank Harte

Now I want Battenburg.

No you don't. They are always disappointingly dry with hard marzipan.

She will surely also need new spring travel outfits.

I suppose so. I still have another three bits of Bakewell tart in the freezer anyway.

I'd be honoured to join in the WH for wafflenose - I read the WH post & looked at some of her own posts, & it's so sad. Her daughter sounds terrific & it must be a huge loss, keenly felt.

I'm always loath to promise designs in advance because things often don't turn out as I've planned, but I will attempt another Maud (in my mind the new one is called Millicent, obviously with a silent 'g') & I will also try to write out the pattern for Maud so that anyone who wants to can make their own gerbil. Both Mauds are crocheted. Full-length Maud sits on a knitted background square, while face-only Maud has a circle or two of crochet around her which could be either appliqued onto a knitted square or squared off in crochet to 6" square.

I can’t tell you how grateful I am to you all, for your support both moral and fibre-based, but especially @ifIwerenotanandroid for the Maud/Millicent contribution. That will be very much appreciated by mum and older sister. Thank you also @Boiledbeetle for encouraging Maud to visit K&P. I like that hoodie on her. I think the woolly hug will benefit from her involvement again.

Well, that should cover most eventualities though I'd like to see her in a wet weather outfit, just to be on the safe side.

Ah, but in the Bluestocking they're delicious AND calorie-free!

What a sad loss @AlexandraLeaving - 17 is no age at all and it's the wrong order of things. Condolences to her grieving family ❤️ so tragic

I'll have a stiff gin from the gerbils please.
And something for my nightmares; don't know why but I've had a few nights of waking up thinking these horrible dreams are real. Please and thanks

Books @PastaAllaNorma - love them, love the feel of them, studying the artwork, reading the blurb on the back.... then I get around to actually reading them.
I have de cluttered recently but can't stop buying! Re-joined the library too.
I usually have one book downstairs and one upstairs for double the pleasure but at least I have just the one set of bookshelves now (oh there is an 'overflow' shelf above the stairs)

I'll skip the battenburg-sickly stuff 🙂 but I'll have a treble recorder if there's one going spare. I loved playing mine

FranticFrankie · 03/03/2026 18:33

Brilliant work @ifIwerenotanandroid ❤️

Encouraging Maud!! As if. I only have to say the word knot and she's off up the stairs packing her bag wittering on about battenberg cake.

@FranticFrankie , I am a member of my library and also use BorrowBox for free audio books. I have two novels, two non fiction and three (interrelated) cookbooks/food writing on the go at the moment.

If a book mentions another book, I scurry off to get that book as well to understand context. Sometimes that's a children's book; sometimes it's a book of poetry. (I get a bit overly thorough)

I will have to a) start playing the recorder again and b) give in to my long standing temptation to get myself a bass recorder, and then dh will be able to echo your d, @AlexandraLeaving. So far I have resisted the temptation because I suspect my hands aren’t big enough for a bass recorder - they weren’t big enough for the cello, and I struggle with a tenor recorder - but bass instruments are my absolute favourites - that deep, velvety texture to the sound. Whenever our choir conductor wanted to mix the voices up, I would go and stand in the back row with the basses.

Edited

On the subject of bass recorders (I have two - and two garkleins, as my ears like gerbil-frequencies, and a lot of inbetweenies), the stretch is MUCH easier than on a tenor, because you are assisted by keys. I struggle with tenor, but find bass much more comfortable. The Yamaha plastic basses are really good value. You will not be disappointed if you buy one. And indeed because I am an addict I happen to know there is a secondhand one at a very good price on ebay at the moment. This is like my two. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/389686402013?_skw=yamaha+bass+recorder&itmmeta=01KJTHZ5RW7PDGZNF2E65GDA37&hash=item5abb1e9bdd:g:4BMAAeSweoZppINV&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA8GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xCTgkUE--tRTdGGMc2ue2e%2B5MuGXuwo%2B8Ea22Dvrl%2Fq3rXSn%2BoTcOCcImoCCaPmzEBhyEg5tCXjy%2FZxERH1Gehyb18oND9TpwxkTOFywNgZazrpYCJQzKcYuhxxIEda8Hm7z2VF33vilJ4t1IZ%2Fwu76Kv5t3R%2BtCsBkmAAxdgqFpu6pTlfEgQ5aLj6UkN7Q4yGavSkmxgvF29JRe6CW4ZxBlDDRXaqmPsv7WAisBm1GaBqBmt%2FPS6PYra%2FCNPpzMjPpD87C3eFh6B6m3d4bUu4N4SaqFdnySsDZshFxx4pMyQ%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR97c_NGWZw

BorrowBox is fabulous. Also Libby, which is similar.

There was recorder group on In Tune yesterday talking to Petroc and performing live in the studio, worth listening to on Sounds.

I've had her working hard at mine for all of February.

Now I'll just have to make my own cups of tea and feed the cats myself.

I'm not impressed. Can I borrow a gerbil (not Glenda) as a stand in for her?

I'm getting used to this daily shower lark!

Wait... It's not made from beetles is it? As beetle bubbles could mean bubbles for beetles or beetle infused bubbles.
