Come in. Yes, you’re in the right place. No, you don’t need to explain yourself.

Coats will be drycleaned before you depart. Bags won't be stolen because Gubbins will play her triangle. And you really don't want to hear it.

The gerbils run the bar.
They are small, brisk, and unionised.
One is polishing a glass with unnecessary seriousness.
Another is keeping the tab and will remember what you ordered last time.
There is a triangle involved. No one knows why. It keeps Gubbins happy.

Sit. Think. Drink. Join in.

The gerbils have it from here.

I remember seeing something about Extreme Ironing.

To be done on mountaintops & so on.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/02/2026 18:16

We’ve been down to an RSPB reserve on the Wirral. Saw - for the first time in the wild - some white fronted geese, thanks to a very kind lady who lowered her scope so I could see them.

presumably finishes by riding down the mountain on the ironing board?

AsWithGlad · 14/02/2026 18:51

That’s a very productive day, @EdithStourton , well done.

With bonus points for getting the pile of ironing to the bottom intact!

Nah, it's a group of blokes being made to iron their own bloody shirtsGrin

Inspired by Damson...

Wow! That's brilliant, thank you Android. Love the outfits!

I'd like to see the TRAs try to muscle in on these events😂

Britinme · 14/02/2026 20:48

Oh they will, they will...

I had one of those hollow nights last night - asleep from 11 to 4 then awake until 6, then back to sleep until 8. So a sufficient amount of sleep but not well arranged, and now I'm tired. DH and I have heart-shaped macarons, bought yesterday at Costco, for dessert tonight, and dinner is some nice fresh haddock caught off the coast here, so our Valentine's dinner will suit us just fine.

I'm running a poetry workshop next Saturday, so I've been working on that today, with the aid of Chat GPT, who turns out to be quite useful at structuring that kind of thing.

MarieDeGournay · 15/02/2026 00:12

G'night all, especially to Boily and Woley, hope you get a good night's sleep and feel better tomorrow.
And to Britinme - a better structured night's sleepSmile
Sleep and Dream Gerbils, please take note!🌛

Google search for extreme ironing images - it's a treat.

Partly because they're ironing up mountains, but mostly because the men are doing the ironing.

The rules: https://sportsmatik.com/sports/extreme-ironing/rules

Note none of the rules say the item has to look like it's been, you know, ironed...

I wonder where they plug the iron into?

Apparently Welsh Duolingo is all about some bloke called Owen & his parsnips.

I don’t think I’ve ever lost a parsnip, either, but I can’t imagine being that bothered if I did.

A parsnip sprung up uninvited in my small yard last year. I thought it was weed so I tried digging it out but then I saw that it was a parsnip and put it back. I was rewarded with this incredible 6 foot tall flowering marvel!

Excellent point, Damson - I haven't come across a wireless iron yet😄

I see Extreme Ironing as a computer game - Level 1 is ironing a hanky and you win points to get up to the highest level: a shirt.

Wow Inky, that's a parsnip-triffid cross you've got there😮
A triffnip? a parsnid?😄

EmpressaurusKitty · 15/02/2026 11:50

Battery powered irons, I suppose. And the About section says there are points for how well the clothes are ironed.

There’s a bit of a difference between ironing on a broken car and ironing at the top of a tree or on a surfboard though.

I admit I didn't read that far!

Knowing men as we do, what's to stop them getting their mum to iron something, vacuum packing it into their backpack, bringing it out and pretending they made it crease free?

I think I want referees, competition-supplied, very creased, 100% cotton items, body-cams ar all times, and doping laws.

Alternatively, they could compete to tackle the ironing piles of households with small children and delicate frilly things against a clock...

It’s the bit about the extreme freestyle that intrigues me most.

I wonder if anyone’s ever ironed while standing on the wing of a flying plane? Or the roof of a moving train?

MarieDeGournay · 15/02/2026 12:30

More technically expert brains than mine can confirm this, but could batteries small enough to fit in an iron manage to generate enough heat? High setting for linen??
Am I taking the practicalities too seriously?😁

How are you this morning, Myrtle? Managing to fend off the asthma, I hope.
And Woley and Boiley? hope you are feeling better.

And anybody else - the problem with mentioning people by name is that I might forget that someone a few pages ago reported something wrong with them and now I've forgotten to mention them and they'll think I don't care about them😬

Now I'm taking sensitivities too seriously, amn't I, but I'm afraid that's just Who I Am😒

Choristers pleated collars are hard to iron.

I have a feeling that you would need a battery bigger than the actual iron Marie, something like a car battery?

I think all of us in the Bluestocking know that you are always looking out for us and our state of health, even when you aren't feeling too well yourselfFlowers

I don't think we've heard from Cake for a few days though. I hope she is recovering from her Op Flowers

Sending healing vibes to anyone who needs them.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 15/02/2026 13:12

The gerbils don't seem to have got the hang of the exreme ironing idea, especially Galaxy. Please don't try this at home.

I am less ache-y this morning, thank you @MarieDeGournay - but we had a very broken night. Ddog2 - Batshit’s spiritual twin - has epilepsy, and had a fit at 4.45am. I was woken up by what I thought was a dog about to be sick, so woke dh up - and as he was looking to see if one of them had been sick, she had a massive fit - she howls while she fits, and then has a post-ictal period where she is utterly terrified and growling at everything, so we have to leave her well alone, get ddog1 out of the way, and wait for her to come back to us.

Then dh had to clear up after her, and let both dogs out for a few moments in the rain, before we all tried to get back to sleep. The dogs dropped off very quickly but Dh and I didn’t get to sleep until nearly 6am. He got up with the dogs at about 7.30, and let me sleep in, so he is knackered today. Ddog2 seems to have recovered well - she is her normal self, but obviously rather tired.

We might up her anti-epilepsy meds - she is on a fairly low dose, so we could - but her fits are very infrequent (the last was 9 months ago), so we may just see how she goes.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 15/02/2026 13:27

Oh poor dog!. It must be terrifying for them as you can't explain what is happening to them.

And poor you and DH, Woley. I hope you both get some rest today.

Oh poor Ddog2, that sounds awful, and very distressing and disturbing for you too. The thought of the poor little thing feeling terrified for no reason is heartbreaking😞 I hope upping her meds helps.

And all that when you're not firing on all cylinders yourself - hope you improve as the day goes on.

Thank you Damson for letting me know that you know I'm thinking of you [ye] even when I don't say it - I'm aware that I over-think it, but as I've said before, even though I've created this new online character 'Marie de Gournay', who could have turned out to be cool-dude, blasée, devil-may-care and love-em-and-leave-em, she has just turned out to be me with a furrin username😁
