Welcome to The Bluestocking, the welcome is warm, the conversation is wide-ranging, the food and drink are delicious but magically free from anything they need to be free from, and the bar staff are highly-trained, professional, efficient and very friendly gerbils.

And now I feel old. Having checked my autograph book it was April 1990. I also met Janet Lees Price that day, as she was there with her husband Paul Darrow!

God, going through my autographs is depressing. So many of them are no longer with us.

Want to join me at the Staunch Ally with Iggy's DP, Boily?

Are you channelling your inner Servalan?

Yep. I wanted to be Servalan when I grew up!

Boiledbeetle · 19/01/2026 19:08

And 45 years later I'm still pissed off with how Blake's 7 ended.

Magpiecomplex · 19/01/2026 19:09

Same. Maybe the reboot will do a better job.

Not me ... JKR

ETA He blocked me a long time ago, purely from me being on here I presume as I never interacted with him on twitter

Boiledbeetle · 19/01/2026 20:07

I have a confession

When looking for my autograph book earlier I discovered about 300 ish writing pens that have not yet been sorted.

Aghhhhhhhhhh

Boiledbeetle · 19/01/2026 20:19

So, I have a false ceiling in part of my house. I've just had reason to have to access it.

The wallpaper behind it is lush! I find it interesting that at some point they started to strip it and then seem to have thought ""fuck that. We'll just shove a false ceiling up instead!"

One day I'll access the part of the house that's completely sealed off. Not going to lie I do have a fear of what I may find behind the panelled off wall, but that's probably from watching to many horror films!

Now you need thoughts and prayers.

Maybe just dump the lot at a minute past midnight and then you'll have done tomorrow easily?

Why do you have part of your house walled off?

They are currently sat in the living room waiting for me to sort them. It is very tempting to just get rid of them all, but some of my favourites are in there.

I did get rid of 40 empty boxes today though.

I have absolutely no idea. I'm hoping not because the guy whose mum died in my living room decided to shove her behind it. It looks like his handiwork as it predates the last owner and the wallpaper fits with when the first guy lived here.

It's always been one of those things I mean to investigate at some point.

MyrtleLion · 19/01/2026 20:26

The blood test wait was another hour. So I left the house at 0905 and returned at 1623. A long day.

I came home to a demand for payment for a service plan for the car we sold on the 20 December. I couldn't cancel it on the day we sold it because they were shut and what with Christmas happening the next week it got missed. But I did cancel the direct debit, so I obviously intended to cancel it. And they couldn't service a.car into longer own. So I have a complaint in and hopefully they will waive the charges.

Or I'll start mentioning the Financial Ombudsman and the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Quite the mystery. How long have you lived there?

And with the kindest of hearts and intentions, and please forgive me if this is an overstep, have you considered you might have ADHD?

<Counts on all limbs>

Quarter of a century.

My sister is autistic, so...

You must be knackered. That is a long day.

The lighting in hospitals is really tiring I find.

Hopefully you'll get your service plan sorted out tomorrow.

snowdrops aconites cyclamen coum

Ah. I wonder if I saw aconites rather than celandines? I’ll have to go back and count the flower petals.

I think the tiny pink cyclamen flowers in our garden have been out for a while. On my walk this afternoon I saw some stems in bud emerging from a mat of pretty cyclamen leaves, but on closer I decided they were snowdrops pushing through.

Swashbuckled · 19/01/2026 20:52

I’ve been watching Patience and have now started Astrid: Murder in Paris. Because it has subtitles, it’s hard to glance away momentarily to type.

But, what a coincidence @Boiledbeetle! I was just about to post to ask if you could locate the floorplans online from all previous sales. Then you could compare to current layout (as I would be all over that like a rash!). And lo, that exact same thing just happened in episode two. Astrid found a floor plan in the archives that showed a house originally had a cellar (now blocked off). Surely, this has to be some sort of sign across the airwaves….
