Welcome to The Bluestocking, the welcome is warm, the conversation is wide-ranging, the food and drink are delicious but magically free from anything they need to be free from, and the bar staff are highly-trained, professional, efficient and very friendly gerbils.

Magpie!

O.M.G. Sorry!

EdithStourton · 19/01/2026 16:15

I think of Batshit as being a big-ish dog with long legs, so she can 'galumph' around excitedly on them😄
Marie, she isn't tiny, and though she's not huge she is mostly leg. She can't just run like a normal dog: she has to either race, bound, spring, sometimes galumph (ideally through a newly-sown flowerbed) or, indeed, now and then have her back legs go out sideways, and be obliged to follow them into the ditch, arse first.

Such talent in one so young stupid er, energetic!

@EdithStourton Well, the AI put a singer in a long black dress at the other end of the choir, so you could be her & not display your legs.

No specs. Can't read the music without specs.
I expect that if you ask AI for an image of woman in the dress of c1400 with specs, it will have a spasm and fall over.

AuntieMsDamsonCrumble · 19/01/2026 16:18

I may regret saying this, but I think it needs little Gubbins, standing on the organ stool with her triangle 😁

RandomHypatia · 19/01/2026 16:24

You all sounded incredible from where I was sitting. Well done!
My hands are sore from clapping and I'm blinking back tears at how beautiful the singing was. I don't think even the Bluey has enough magic to turn me into a good singer so I thought I should stay in the audience.

OK, so we need a dragon, a damson & a penguin tomorrow. Anyone else?

I've got 'Sisters are Doing It For Themselves' pencilled in as the encore. (Marie insisted we couldn't drop the 'g'. Then she insisted we had to do it as per the original words. Now she's in a tizzy, so if you see a whirl of black feathers that'll be her. Just shout 'There, there,' walk on by & leave her to come to her own decision.)

The Northern Abba 😂 jukebox musical is next year's offering, then, & Cake will be choirmistress for that.

A wolf, a fox, a knitted sloth, a cuddly toy, food processor, luxury towels...

Sorry, got carried away imagining I was on the Generation game.

lcakethereforeIam · 19/01/2026 16:28

I've thought of another one, 'Outside Loo'.

How about 'Queuing for a Sausage Roll in Gregg's'?

Britinme · 19/01/2026 16:54

I'm very happy to be on Marie's head - we don't weigh a lot, us chickadees. Think about the size of a small sparrow. I promise not to decorate her head with any... effusions? Effluent? OK, birdshit.

FuzzyPuffling · 19/01/2026 17:11

As a northerner I am slightly concerned about the stereotyping.
I've never been to Gregg's and only went to Nandos once ( at the behest of DH's southern family). I was not impressed at all.

How about songs that describe the friendliness of the people and the beautiful scenery?

This morning I have washed the cat flap.
Now there's a useful sentence.

It sounds like the kind of sentence Duolingo asks me to translate into Italian. 😂

I might pop over to the Staunch Ally in that case!

I live in what I think of as the Soft South, population of fewer than 150,000 at the last census.

The internet tells me we have 2 branches of Greggs and 3 Nando’s. I have been to none of them.

We also have snowdrops and celandines in flower, which added to the joy of my short walk this afternoon.

AsWithGlad · 19/01/2026 18:03

Did you ask AI for an image of an educated 14C woman, Magpie, or did it just know?

My first dwarf iris reticulata came out in today's sunshine. Spring is definitely on the way.

I've met Avon, Villa and Peter Tuddenham. (Orac and Zen)... Yes! I was at a Blake's 7 convention!!

I had a thing for Villa.

And now I feel old. Having checked my autograph book it was April 1990. I also met Janet Lees Price that day, as she was there with her husband Paul Darrow!

God, going through my autographs is depressing. So many of them are no longer with us.
